ViacomCBS is shifting its adaptation of Walter Tevis’ “The Man Who Fell to Earth” from Paramount+ to linear TV network Showtime.
Last month, ViacomCBS moved Showtime’s long-in-the-works “Halo” adaptation over to Paramount+. So we guess this amounts to a trade.
The series is based on Walter Tevis’ 1963 novel, which was adapted for a 1973 film that starred David Bowie. “The Man Who Fell to Earth” follows an alien who arrives on Earth at a turning point in human evolution and must confront his own past to determine our future.
Chiwetel Ejiofor will star in the now-Showtime version.
Alex Kurtzman and “Star Trek: Discovery” vet Jenny Lumet will both write and serve as showrunners, with Kurtzman directing. The project is a co-production between CBS TV Studios, where Kurtzman has an overall deal, and Tandem Productions, a division of StudioCanal, which owns the rights to both the book and the film.

With depictions of pandemic catastrophes, war, failing empires, the divide between rich and poor, shooting rampages and massive power outages, Germany’s newest TV shows appear to reflect the current apocalyptic zeitgeist.
German broadcasters and streaming services alike are going heavy on suspense, crime, psychological thrillers, action and adventure, often colored by themes of societal disruption and armed conflict.
Showrunner Christian Alvart (“Dogs of Berlin”) was in production with Zdf Enterprise’s new series “Sløborn” well before the Covid-19 pandemic but the storyline was eerily prescient: A community on the North Sea island of Sløborn is slowly devastated when a deadly virus begins killing residents while being largely ignored by most of the population until it’s too late. Alvart says he wanted to make a series about a crisis that occurs because people are too occupied with their daily lives to take the situation seriously.

ABC will not be picking up additional episodes of crime dramedy “Take Two,” Variety has confirmed. The show, which starred Rachel Bilson and Eddie Cibrian, premiered in June and concluded its 13-episode first season in September.
“Take Two” came from “Castle” creators Andrew Marlowe and Terri Edda Miller, and received a straight-to-series order at ABC last November. The series paired up Bilson’s Sam Swift, a former star of a hit cop series, with Cibrian’s Eddie Valetik, a private investigator. Sam turned to Eddie to research a potential comeback role after a stint at rehab, and Eddie realized the disgraced actress’ skills and experience may serve as a valuable asset.

There will be no second take for ABC’s summer procedural drama series Take Two, Deadline has learned. News of the cancellation comes two months after Take Two wrapped its 13-episode first-season run.
The straight-to-series drama, which starred Rachel Bilson and Eddie Cibrian, hailed from creators Andrew W. Marlowe and his wife, former Castle executive producer Terri Edda Miller.
The drama never got much ratings traction, averaging 2.71 million total viewers and a 0.4 in the adults 18-49 demo. It did not fare much better in delayed viewing, averaging 3.83 million total viewers and a 0.6 in the demo in Live+3.

The Rachel Bilson and Eddie Cibrian-led drama “Take Two” has been canceled by ABC after one season, an individual with knowledge of the decision tells TheWrap.
The procedural, from “Castle” creators Andrew Marlowe and Terri Edda Miller, wrapped its 13-episode run in September, after premiering as a summer series in June. The show received a straight-to-series order at ABC last November.
Here’s the official description for the series: An entertaining private investigator procedural with a unique balance of comedy and drama. Sam Swift (Bilson), the former star of a hit cop series is fresh-out-of-rehab following a bender of epic proportions. Desperate to restart her career, she talks her way into shadowing rough-and-tumble private investigator Eddie Valetik (Cibrian) as research for a potential comeback role. Though lone wolf Eddie resents the babysitting gig, high-spirited Sam proves herself to be surprisingly valuable, drawing on her acting skills and 200 episodes of playing a detective.

Though Eddie resents the babysitting gig, high-spirited Sam uses the skills she learned as an actor playing a cop and proves herself to be surprisingly valuable.
Take Two comes from Terri Edda Miller and Andrew W. Marlowe, the creators and executive producers of Castle. Miller and Marlowe will serve as EPs alongside Studiocanal TV’s Rola Bauer and Tandem Productions’ Tim Halkin. The cast also includes Xavier de Guzman, Aliyah O’Brien, and Alice Lee.

After each phase, the daters who fail to connect with the mystery suitor are whittled down, leading to the dramatic and highly anticipated reveal, when the two remaining daters finally meet the mystery suitor for the first time, just in time for a romantic proposal.
The Proposal is produced by Next Entertainment in association with Warner Horizon Unscripted & Alternative Television. Mike Fleiss, Martin Hilton, James Breen and Jason Ehrlich serve as executive producers.

A new TV maxi-series is trying to buck the trend and bring back appointment viewing for fictional sagas, a la "The Thorn Birds" or, more recently and modestly, "Angels in America" or "Broken Trail." Most of the big Euro stations have lined up to air "The Pillars of the Earth," but so far there are no broadcast takers in the U.S. or the U.K.
A Germany-Canada co-production spearheaded by Munich-based Tandem Communications and Montreal-based Muse Entertainment, the eight-hour saga, based on Ken Follett's best-seller, will be directed by Sergio Mimica-Gezzan, who has helmed episodes of "Heroes" and "Saving Grace" and was Steven Spielberg's first assistant director on "Saving Private Ryan" and "Schindler's List."
"Pillars" starts lensing June 22 in Hungary and Austria. The premiere is set for the second half of 2010.

CANNES -- Munich-based boutique production house Tandem Communications has signed a major deal with Spanish commercial channel Cuatro that will see Cuatro take the bulk of Tandem's future output of series, miniseries and TV movies.
"Tandem's past projects have had a lot of success in the Spanish market, we are very pleased to secure them as a supplier for Cuatro," said Angel Lopez, the channel's acquisitions head.
The first title under the new deal is "Impact", a $13 million event miniseries Tandem is shopping to buyers here at MIPCOM. The agreement also includes the Sci Fi series "Painkiller Jane", for which Tandem holds international distribution rights.

The deal was negotiated by Cuatro's Lopez and Tandem's Jonas Bauer, who last week was named a partner in the German company alongside Rola Bauer and Tim Halkin.
