Timed to coincide with TV’s upfronts in New York, a real estate-focused event that also calls itself the Upfronts — a luxury property reveal thrown by The Society Group — took over The Wallis in Beverly Hills on May 15. Held in the Bram Goldsmith Theater, the confab saw L.A.’s biggest power brokers gather to preview some of the world’s most luxurious listings coming to market.
“This is fun for me because usually I’m sitting in the audience where you’re sitting looking at a performance,” Carolwood’s Linda May noted, “so it’s really nice to look out and see so many friends here enjoying the theater.”
Despite a few technical Av hiccups, the Upfronts ran like clockwork, with exuberant presenters giving succinct pitches to an involved audience about new-to-market skyscraper penthouses in NYC, $100 million-plus mansions in L.A. and even Hollywood production studios. After his presentation, Fredrik Eklund even joked,...

Selling the Oc’s Alexandra Jarvis Says Toxic Culture Led to her Departure - Main Image

Alexandra Jarvis, one of the Og agents in the Newport Beach-based office, recently announced her departure just before the third season's premiere. With fans disappointed by her announcement, perhaps her reason for leaving would shed more light on her decision.

In what may be the biggest numbers racked up by any real estate team in the United States in 2023 — a challenging year for residential sales across the country — the Eklund Gomes Team at Douglas Elliman tells The Hollywood Reporter exclusively that it closed $3.77 billion in deals last year.
The team, co-founded by Fredrik Eklund (former star of Bravo’s reality series Million Dollar Listing) and John Gomes, counts around 80 agents on its roster who work in celebrity-heavy markets in four states: New York, Florida, California and Texas.
Contributing to that $3.77 billion number is the fact that around 25 of Eklund Gomes Team’s agents made more than $1 million in commissions last year and “13 of our agents had better years in 2023 than they did in 2022,” says Eklund Gomes Team CEO Julia Spillman. Adds Eklund, “We’re proud.”

The current real estate market is tough. But despite obvious challenges like high interest rates, these standout New York City next-gen real estate agents — Eric Brown of Compass, Maggie Chong of Serhant, the Corcoran Group duo of Marko Arsic and Jason Lau, Douglas Elliman’s Erin Lichy (a star of the new season of The Real Housewives of New York City), and Brown Harris Stevens’ Michael Kelley-Bradford — just keep going.
All six are nominated for The Hollywood Reporter‘s 2023 Power Broker Awards‘ Rising Star Award for up-and-coming agents 35 and under. The winner will be announced later this month.
“If anyone says interest rates don’t impact pricing, that’s just a lie, honestly,” says Brown, 32, a top agent at Compass.
“I have so many buyers who have just paused. Everybody’s kind of freaked out from the instability,” says Chong, 35, a Serhant agent who lives in Brooklyn. “But,” Chong counters,...

It’s hard to imagine a Selling Sunset season without at least one Oppenheim broker causing totally unnecessary drama. Thankfully, we have Nicole Young for that in season 6, but at one point, Davina Potratz seemed to be the one causing a few problems on the popular Netflix show. Specifically, let’s not forget when she questioned Chrishell Stause’s story about her divorce from Justin Hartley way back at the show’s start, suggesting that there are “two sides” to every situation. Of course, it rubbed Chrishell — and viewers — the wrong way, and since Davina was always close with Christine Quinn, some fans became a bit cold toward Davina.
She was a pretty prominent cast member for the show’s first five seasons but has seemingly disappeared for its sixth, with the exception of an occasional one-liner and a few seconds of screen time sparsely dispersed throughout the show. What happened?...

Mega-selling The Altman Brothers team, known for starring on Bravo’s Million Dollar Listing Los Angeles, has just signed a new, multiyear deal to remain at their brokerage of Douglas Elliman Realty.
Co-founded by brothers Josh and Matt Altman and led by CEO Heather Altman (who is also Josh’s wife), The Altman Brothers transacted more than $2.5 billion in deals in the past 24 months. “That equates to about $4 million a day in sales every day of the year,” says Josh Altman in an exclusive interview with The Hollywood Reporter. “We did almost $1.2 billion in 2022 and $1.5 billion in 2021.” (Overall, across the country, Douglas Elliman had $42.9 billion in gross transactions in 2022 and $51.2 billion the prior year.)

Everyone loves a gimmick, even the über rich. The controversial Measure Ula — which was opposed (futilely) by top real estate agents — is set to go into effect April 1. Known as “the mansion tax,” the L.A. City measure will require sellers of properties of more than $5 million to pay a 4 percent transfer tax, while sales of more than $10 million will pay a 5.5 percent tax. All funds raised will be used to fund sorely needed public housing.
Now, just under the gun, blue chip sellers are using the looming deadline to try to goose sales. The undeveloped 260-acre Senderos Canyon in Bel Air is being auctioned off by Paramount Realty USA. In an attempt to woo buyers quickly, owner Giro Properties has announced a $2 million discount if the deal is closed before April 1.
Botched star Paul Nassif has listed his Bel Air mansion at 1035 Stradella Road for $27.995 million with a similar twist.

On Jan. 17, the top power players in Miami and Palm Beach’s hot residential real estate market — where two estates topped the 100 million mark last year — arrived at the Baz Luhrmann-designed Faena Theater in Miami Beach. The hurricane of cash that flooded South Florida during the pandemic may have slowed, but the real estate brokers who rule its pimped-out properties say the market is still flying high. Miami-Dade County brokers had a record year in 2021 and already had posted their fourth-best year ever by November 2021, according to the Miami Association of Realtors. Better still, South Florida had three out of the nation’s top 10 most expensive home sales of 2022. Celebrities who have bought or rented in the area in the last couple years include Sylvester Stallone (who paid 35 million for a Palm Beach estate in late 2020), Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez (who briefly rented a 130k a month waterfront mansion in Miami Beach last year via Corcoran) and Cindy Crawford and Rande Gerber (who spent 9.6 million on a Miami Beach home in 2021). And designer Tom Ford was recently revealed as the buyer of a 51 million property...

The former home of Alan Ladd Jr., a 2,732-square-foot condominium in the French-themed Le Parc complex in Century City has come to market, listed at 2.995 million.
Ladd — the former studio executive at Fox and MGM/UA known for championing Star Wars — died on March 2 this year at age 84. Ladd, also an Oscar-winning producer (Braveheart), bought the two-bedroom, single-level unit in 2015.
“Before he purchased this home, Alan lived in a large home in Beverly Hills. He felt the need to downsize but wanted to stay in the area. He immediately fell in love with the tranquil beautiful gardens that Le Parc offers,” says Douglas Elliman Realty’s listing agent Susan Roth.
The Le Parc complex has been popular with entertainment names over the years. According to Dirt.com, Priscilla Presley purchased a 3,242-square-foot condo at Le Parc last year for 4.8 million, after downsizing from an estate in Beverly Hills.

Even amid rising interest rates, Hollywood’s real estate up-and-comers agree that business is good. Five emerging agents on the scene — Kati Cattaneo, Jacob Greene, Marco Salari, Kevin Stewart and Caroline Wolf — notice that although inventory may be lacking, demand for well-made homes in Los Angeles is unwavering.
“Los Angeles will always be one of the best and most desirable places to live in the world,” says Coldwell Banker’s Salari, 26. “Even with the interest rates and threat of recession, this market is strong with many buyers needing homes.”
This year, Salari closed on a deal for a Santa Monica property that got 22 offers, all over asking. His clients were the prevailing buyers, which Salari calls a “hard-fought win.” Salari, a former Italian basketball player, also struck deals with Favorite Daughter co-founder Erin Foster and actress-screenwriter couple Katey Sagal and Kurt Sutter. (Note: All information on celebrity clients and transactions is from public records,...

After the banner year of 2021, L.A.’s high-end real estate market is seeing challenges, including some softening of prices, continued low inventory and rising interest rates (an average 30-year fixed mortgage rate today is about 5.8 percent compared with about 2.9 percent a year ago). “It will take some time for buyers to acclimate to the interest rate increases; it’s all cyclical,” says Hilton & Hyland’s Justin Paul Huchel. But for L.A.’s top agents, these setbacks are an opportunity to refocus on a core value: finding clients their perfect home. Despite the market softening, agents profess that they aren’t worried. According to Redfin, the median sale in Beverly Hills still clocks in at 3.8 million, up 15.4 percent from last year. And agents aren’t hurting financially, either. Although marketing, staff and office space must be factored in, many of the area...

“It’s not for the timid,” says Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices California Properties’ Elisabeth Halsted of L.A.’s supercharged market, where many agents are on track to have their best sales year ever and buyers “need to have a strong stomach,” she adds, given the premium prices that blue-chip houses are commanding.
