“Saving Marriage” sounds like another name for the No on Prop 8 campaign – the effort to save gay marriage in California from the reactionary forces across the country that are trying to snatch back this right, granted just months ago by the state Supreme Court.
That’s a Republican-dominated court, by the way, and the majority opinion was a 121-page scholarly document written by a Republican appointee. So much for the canard that unthinking, knee-jerk activist judges (impliedly, Democrats) are on a mission to thwart the people’s will.
It’s a mixed time for gay marriage. On the one hand, the California decision was a stirring victory and, what’s more, Connecticut just became the third state to legalize same-sex marriage, in a state Supreme Court decision released only days ago. On the other hand, polls show Prop 8 is winning, probably due in part to the huge fundraising advantage the anti-gay forces possess,...

Rated PG-13 for brief strong language, the film is co-helmed by first timers John Henning and Mike Roth with Roth being the more experienced in the industry with work in the camera and electrical dept. for many releases. Here! Films has acquired worldwide distribution rights to "Saving Marriage," a documentary about gay marriage from producers/directors John Henning and Mike Roth. Regent Releasing, Here!'s sister company, will release the film theatrically in select cities on Oct. 10 in an effort to defeat Proposition 8 in California and tie in with the upcoming elections on Nov. 4.
Regent has officially partnered with Equality California, which is fighting for marriage equality in California. The partnership is designed to help the organization raise visibility and funds for the "No on Prop 8" campaign through advanced benefit screenings of the film in Los Angeles and San Francisco.

NEW YORK -- At NewFest, the New York Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender Film Festival, which concluded Sunday, two coming-out comedies emerged as winners. Pete Jones' Outing Riley won best U.S. narrative feature, and Regis Musset's French comic drama Times Have Been Better won best foreign narrative feature at the 19th annual fest.
At the awards ceremony, NewFest artistic director Basil Tsiokos and administrative director Kerry Weldon also unveiled plans for a new screenplay competition, a staged screenplay reading series and a youth filmmakers initiative during the upcoming year.
The unofficial launch of a screenplay reading series took Tuesday evening with a performance of the Todd Stephens' sequel "Another Gay Movie 2: Gays Gone Wild." Several stars from the original film and drag entertainers RuPaul and The Lady Bunny were set to read the new script at New York's Zipper Theater.
Other NewFest award recipients included Saving Marriage, Mike Roth and John Henning's chronicle of the Massachusetts fight over gay marriage, which won best documentary.
