- Was named after Robert Stack's character in "Written on the Wind".
- Born and raised in Saint Louis, Missouri. Graduated from University City Senior High School in 1977. Studied criminal law at UMSL, but left after only one year. Moved to Hollywood, California in 1979. Relocated to Burbank, California in 1980 after his apartment building on Hollywood Boulevard was condemned.
- Donated monument in memory of victim Elizabeth Short ("The Black Dahlia") to her New England hometown in 1993. Produced documentary about her murder the following year.
