Just as the road trip across Eurasia is linear in direction, life also exists in a straight line; and no matter what hurdles he encounters along the journey, Ricardo's momentum never ceases, just as time is also unstoppable. There is a beginning, middle and end to this narrative, just as there is in any human life. The question remains whether or not we can dictate when and how the ending occurs? He may say a lot of mean things along the way, but Ricardo's determination is truly commendable; as Rodríguez slowly reveals that this grinch might actually have a heart, it...

Spanish documentary filmmaker Chema Rodríguez will shoot parts of his first feature film in India in October. The project is titled Night is Falling in India. It is a road movie about a journey from Spain to the river Ganges.
The film is currently being shot in Romania and will then move to Turkey and Sevilla until the end of July. The second half of filming is scheduled for October in India and Almería.
Rodríguez has made over 50 documentaries for television and three for the cinema.
The film, based on the real story told in “Night is falling in Katmandu” written by Rodríguez in 2003, tells the story of Ricardo (Juan Diego), who back in the day used to take hippies to India in his van. But he has spent the last ten years of his life in a wheelchair because of a terminal illness that has reached its final phase.

TORONTO -- Spanish director Chema Rodriguez's documentary about Guatemalan prostitutes who form a soccer team for dignity and respect will open the Hot Docs Canadian International Documentary Festival on April 28, organizers said Tuesday. Rodriguez's Estrellas de la Linea (The Railroad All-Stars), which bowed in Berlin, portrays sex workers in Guatemala banding together on the field to draw attention to the dangers of their work and the daily prejudice they face. "An issue-oriented work with tremendous personality and emotion, 'The Railroad All-Stars' is the perfect film to carry the documentary flag into the festival," Hot Docs director of programming Sean Farnel said.
