Exclusive: The Talk may be wrapping up after 15 seasons in December, but Executive Producer Rob Crabbe and his team are not going down without a fight.
For the first time in its history, The Talk will invite guest comedians on the show to yuk it up for the crowd and cameras. “Stand Up At The Talk” will launch April 26 and return each Friday.
Hosts Sheryl Underwood, Natalie Morales, Jerry O’Connell, Akbar Gbajabiamila and Amanda Kloots will move off stage so the set can be transformed into a comedy club. The featured standup will then perform a 5-minute set for the audience.
“I am excited to bring two things I love together — standup comedy and The Talk,” Underwood, who’s a comedian herself, tells Deadline. “This is the first time The Talk has done a standup series, but it won’t be the last. See you every Friday!”

“The Talk” is going silent. CBS is ending the long-running daytime chat show, which will get an abbreviated final season (its 15th) this fall, before signing off for good with what it’s calling a “celebratory sendoff” in December.
Rumors of the show’s end have been swirling for months, but CBS made it official to the show’s cast and crew on Friday morning. The news comes as CBS and the NAACP are developing a new daytime soap opera under their content partnership, “The Gates,” a partnership with P&g Studios, a division of Procter & Gamble. “The Gates,” which “follows the lives of a wealthy Black family in a posh, gated community,” is seen as a potential replacement for “The Talk.”

With CBS in “accelerated development” on “The Gates,” which, if picked up to series, would become the network’s first new daytime soap opera since launching “The Bold and the Beautiful” in 1987, many in the entertainment industry have questioned what that means for “The Talk,” the daytime talk show that replaced the long-running drama series “As The World Turns,” which concluded its run after more than 54 years on the network in September 2010.
Currently in its 14th season, “The Talk” ranks as the third most watched daytime talk show, behind only ABC’s “The View” and syndicated talker “Live with Kelly and Mark.” Despite that, the show is currently down double digits among Total Viewers and the key Women 18-49 sales demographic, often ranking at the bottom half in both categories among all daytime broadcast shows and has remained CBS’ least-watched and lowest-rated daytime series overall since it premiered in October 2010.

CBS announced some promising news for the future of daytime dramas last week when it revealed plans to develop a new sudser that would follow the lives of a wealthy Black family in a posh, gated community.
Dubbed The Gates, the serial is from Michele Val Jean, who has written more than 2,000 episodes of daytime dramas and won multiple Daytime Emmys for her work on The Bold & The Beautiful and General Hospital. She will serve as writer and showrunner and will also executive producer alongside CBS Studios NAACP Venture President Sheila Ducksworth, along with Leon Russell, Derrick Johnson and Kimberly Doebereiner.
What CBS didn’t say, however, is how long each episode of the soap would be — though it’s looking to be an hour a day — and where (or when) it would go on the schedule should it earn a series pickup. Dropping The Young and the Restless is...

It may have looked like a big transition for Rob Crabbe — jumping from late night where he ran The Late Late Show with James Corden for eight years to executive producing his first daytime show, The Talk — but the veteran showrunner was actually more anxious about the live aspect of his new gig at CBS.
“When we were making Corden, we thought that show could work any time of the day, and so we were making it for any type of audience and we wanted people to be able to enjoy it at lunch on their computer or watch it on linear television at night,” says Crabbe, who began his new gig in the fall of 2023. “But in late night, you shoot a show at 5 p.m. and you have it on the air about three and a half hours later. With daytime, you get fired out of a cannon at 11 a.

CBS’s The Talk is returning for Season 14 on Monday, October 9. The show’s panel remains the same as Akbar Gbajabiamila, Amanda Kloots, Natalie Morales, Jerry O’Connell, and Sheryl Underwood are all returning but there will be some changes to the show under the guidance of new executive producer Rob Crabbe, formerly of The Late Late Show With James Corden. TV Insider chatted with Crabbe about what will be different about the show and what will remain the same. The Writers Guild of America strike is over, but actors in SAG-AFTRA still don’t have a new deal. Therefore, while familiar faces may pop up on the show, they’ll be promoting non-acting gigs. Case in point: Patrick Stewart (Star Trek: Picard) will be on Monday’s episode to promote his memoir, Making It So. Read on for the changes coming to The Talk. The Talk is finally coming back.
The CBS daytime talk show has set its season premiere – returning on Monday October 9.
It comes after much back and forth for the show, as a result of the writers strike and the fallout that involved a slew of daytime shows including The Drew Barrymore Show, which had planned to return before the writers had a deal.
Deadline revealed on September 9 that The Talk was planning to return on September 18.
However, a week later, after WGA picketers had targeted the show outside CBS Radford and Barrymore had been shamed into postponing her own return, The Talk decided to postpone its comeback.

Update: CBS has confirmed Deadline’s scoop that The Talk will return to air on September 18. It comes as WGA writers picketed a run-through outside CBS Radford.
Exclusive (9/11/23): Drew Barrymore is not the only daytime talk show host returning to air.
Deadline hears that CBS’ The Talk is gearing up to return to the studio. We understand there are plans to launch the new season of the show on September 18. CBS declined to comment.
It comes after Barrymore and her show were picketed by WGA members in New York on their first day of filming amid dual labor actions.

The View, with hosts including Whoopi Goldberg, has also been regularly picketed by the WGA. Live with Kelly and Mark, hosted by actors Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos, also returned recently with its 36th season.

News comes as “The Talk” shot a rehearsal show on Wednesday, some of which may be used later on an episode.

“The Talk” has found its new showrunner.
Hours after revealing that longtime executive producer Kristin Matthews is stepping down as showrunner after 13 years with the Emmy-winning talk show, CBS announced Friday that “The Late Late Show” executive producer Rob Crabbe will step up as showrunner for Season 14.
“I’ve loved my experience working with CBS these past eight years, and am thrilled and honored that George, Amy and David have trusted me with their signature daytime talk show,” Crabbe said in a statement obtained by TheWrap. “I’m excited by the opportunity to help bring some joy and thoughtful conversation to viewers with these five incredibly talented hosts.”
Crabbe, a multi-Emmy Award winner for his years-long television work (most recently on “The Late Late Show With James Corden” since 2015), Crabbe previously served as a supervising producer on “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” and “Late Night With Jimmy Fallon,” as...

Exclusive: Rob Crabbe, who has served as exec producer on The Late Late Show with James Corden for eight years, is moving from late-night into daytime.
Crabbe has been named as showrunner and exec producer of CBS’ The Talk. He replaces Kristin Matthews, who Deadline revealed earlier today was leaving the show after 13 years.
The move will see Crabbe, who was the co-showrunner along with Ben Winston of Corden’s hit late-night show, stay in the CBS family.
Crabbe teamed with Corden and Winston on The Late Late Show in 2015 and the pair remained in charge throughout the run of the show, a rarity in late-night television. He was part of the team that landed a slew of Emmy nominations for both The Late Late Show with James Corden and Carpool Karaoke, one of the show’s breakout segments that also became a spinoff series for Apple.

If James Corden hadn’t stepped down, CBS would have “happily” continued “The Late Late Show,” executive producer Rob Crabbe believes. In the wake of reports that CBS plans to replace the late night staple with a reboot of “@midnight,” Crabbe shared his thoughts on the upcoming revival.
“It’s hard to start these things, so it probably made more financial sense for them to shift over to ‘@midnight,'” Crabbe told TheWrap. “So I think they made a good decision in what they need for this time slot. James is heading back to England, so there’s not really a continuation of this show.”
Crabbe emphasized that he, fellow EP Ben Winston and Corden are not associated with the rumored “@midnight” reboot and that he only knows about it due to reports from the press. To his knowledge, there have not been conversations about “The Late Late Show” staffers...

After eight years and some 1,200 episodes of The Late Late Show, James Corden is signing off.
The Brit, who launched his iteration of the CBS late night show as a virtual unknown among U.S. viewers in 2015, has announced that he’ll be returning to the U.K. with his wife and three children. The decision to end this professional chapter was neither brash nor kept secret; in fact, at exactly this time last year, Corden sat his 170-person staff down and said that he had a year of the show left in him. From that day forward, his showrunners, late night vet Rob Crabbe and longtime Corden collaborator Ben Winston, have been dead set on making the final season the show’s biggest and most star-studded yet.

Exclusive, Updated with video: The days of war between late-night hosts like David Letterman, Jay Leno and Conan O’Brien are long gone.
It’s a full détente, it seems, as a skit on the final episode of The Late Late Show with James Corden will highlight.
Deadline understands that Corden got together the likes of The Late Show’s Stephen Colbert, The Tonight Show’s Jimmy Fallon, Jimmy Kimmel Live!’s Jimmy Kimmel and Late Night’s Seth Meyers for a sketch. The group apparently filmed it together, though we hear that Kimmel filmed his bit remotely.
While Letterman and Leno fought it out in the ratings and before that a chance to host The Tonight Show and O’Brien had his own battle with Leno at NBC, this generation of hosts have been brought together during the past eight years by such things as the pandemic and the Donald Trump presidency.

James Corden is leaving The Late Late Show much like he entered: with a bang.
Corden kicked off his first show on March 23, 2015 with a coup. He managed to persuade Tom Hanks to perform his entire filmography in an episode that also featured appearances from Arnold Schwarzenegger, Billy Crystal, Chris Rock and Meryl Streep.
Having spent the past eight years driving and singing with A-listers such as Mariah Carey, Stevie Wonder and Michelle Obama, passing Penny Lane with Paul McCartney and jumping out of a plane with Tom Cruise, he’s closing his CBS late-night show Thursday with guests including Harry Styles and Will Ferrell as well as a musical performance with Cruise during The Lion King at the Pantages Theater in Hollywood.
“The nature of our show is we really want to go out with a bang,” he tells Deadline. “We want to go out in the same manner that we came in.

Adele’s 2016 “Carpool Karaoke” clip remains the most watched of all time for “The Late Late Show with James Corden.” Actually, it’s one of the most-watched clips of all time for any talk show, period, at more than 260 million views. So, when Adele pitched an idea to surprise Corden for his finale, there was no hesitation.
The idea: Adele would surprise Corden at his house and drive him to work for one final “Carpool Karaoke.” “That was a shock to me, I didn’t know about that,” Corden told Variety. “I thought our last carpool was with Diddy. He was someone we tried to get for a while. And then this surprise with Adele happened!
“The fact that she came and did that for me. The fact that it was her idea to say, ‘well, why don’t I drive him to work?’ It’s really special,” he added.

James Corden, host of “The Late Late Show” since 2015, spoke candidly from the stage of The Paley Center in Los Angeles on Sunday. The London-born 44-year-old comic and two producers on his CBS late-night show, Ben Winston and Rob Crabbe, took something of a victory lap as they wind down their tenure in the 12:30 time slot. They have 12 more episodes to shoot, and are planning some big names (and more carpool karaoke segments) for the grand finale.
Bryan Cranston (a good get!) hosted the panel, during which time Corden spoke about the uncertainty he feels about his future employment. “I haven’t felt this scared since I decided to take the show, to move here,” he said. “I haven’t felt on such unstable ground,” but added, “I have to embrace that fear.”
He intends to bring his family back to England and hopes to get back to live theater.

An emotional and reflective James Corden bid his fans and television farewell – at least for now – during a PaleyFest LA event Sunday night at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood a few weeks before his CBS “The Late Late Show with James Corden” heads off into the sunset for good on April 27. It was announced that the show in its final days will release three new “Carpool Karaoke” segments featuring major stars. Corden will also participate in a “Take a Break” segment featuring the Kardashian family, and will debut one last, epic “Crosswalk the Musical” performance. Additionally, the popular “Late Late Show” guest Tom Cruise will join Corden for a final musical “Lion King” sketch from the Pantages Theater in Hollywood.
CBS previously revealed that the show will conclude April 27 with a final broadcast at 12:37 a.m., preceded that night at 10 p.m. by an hourlong “Last Last Late Late...

James Corden is getting honest about his post-Late Late Show steps, admitting to some uncertainty about his future and revealing hopes to return to the theater.
“There’s loads of things I’d love to do, but they’re very reliant on people wanting me to do them,” Corden said at a PaleyFest event in Los Angeles on Sunday, where he took part in a panel alongside Late Late Show executive producers Ben Winston and Rob Crabbe, in a conversation that was moderated by Bryan Cranston. He added, “I think it’s going to be really important to take a breath and take a minute” to decompress from the last eight years, and with plans for his family to move back to England this summer.

James Corden reached for the puke bucket halfway through a PaleyFest event after eating congealed blood pudding with a fisheye skewer rather than say who the worst singer he’d ever had on Carpool Karaoke.
The event was designed to celebrate the end of The Late Late Show and Corden and his exec producers Ben Winston and Rob Crabbe were encouraged by moderator Bryan Cranston to play their own version of Spill Your Guts or Fill Your Guts.
It comes as The Late Late Show is preparing for its final run of shows, culminating in a primetime special on Thursday April 27 before its final show at 12:37am.
That primetime special will feature Tom Cruise in a special Lion King sketch.
Corden will also host a Take a Break segment during the final weeks featuring the Kardashian family, there will be one more Crosswalk The Musical performance and three final Carpool Karaoke segments.

When James Corden was tapped to take over “The Late Late Show” from Craig Ferguson in 2014, he and executive producers Ben Winston and Rob Crabbe knew they wouldn’t make your typical late-night talk show. For one, the Tony- and BAFTA-winning actor is not a stand-up comedian. Lengthy monologues with barbed zingers on the news of the day was not the tone they were going for, but rather a joyful hangout.

Ben Winston never planned on entering an eighth year at his CBS Television City office, a bright room now stuffed with memorabilia from an ascendant Hollywood tenure that’s brought him 11 Emmys. James Corden is heading home — to visit, as part of a week-long trip to Blighty for “The Late Late Show” on CBS. This will mark the fourth time “The Late Late Show with James Corden” has filmed from the U.K., but marks the first major initiative for the show since Corden announced that he would depart next year.
“The Late Late Show” will broadcast four episodes from Freemasons’ Hall in Central London, marking the show’s first time in that venue. The episodes will air on Monday, June 27, through Thursday June 30 — in the show’s normal 12:37 a.m. timeslot.
This marks the first time “The Late Late Show” has been in London since 2019; obviously the show hasn’t had a chance to return due to the Covid-19 pandemic. In announcing his exit from late night, Corden promised big moments throughout the final year of his show, and this reps the first.

James Corden, still considered one of the newer figures in late-night television, is celebrating 1,000 episodes of The Late Late Show tonight.
The Brit kicked off his run on the CBS show on March 23, 2015 and it’s been a wild ride, from jumping out of planes with Tom Cruise through to the success of Carpool Karaoke and newer segments such as Crosswalk Musical.
Corden tells Deadline that he’s feeling great about hitting the four-figure mark. “We grew up in a country where talkshows are on once a week with two blocks of maybe 20 episodes in the spring and autumn. I can’t remember a time when Graham Norton wasn’t on on a Friday night. That entire show is so incredible, it’s a hallmark of British television and they’ve done slightly less than 500 shows. It’s mad to think we’ve made 1,000 hours of television. It’s a lot to think about,...

After a hosting “The Late Late Show” for a thousand episodes, James Corden now knows why his gig is so coveted. “These are very difficult jobs to leave, because you work with incredible people and you do something that’s really amazing every day,” he said. “I never used to understand before I started this, how people could do these [talk show hosting] jobs for 15, 20, 25 years. But I see it now.”
Corden, who is in the midst of discussing his future with CBS — his contract is up next August — told Variety that he’s not sure yet how or when he’ll decide what to do. “I’m so conscious of wanting it to always be fresh,” he said. “I want it to always be fresh and alive. And in the same token, I never really saw this job as a final destination. I saw it as a stop on a journey. So...

2020 has been an incredibly tough year but the world of late-night has been both a constant source of entertainment for viewers and a shining case study for how to make television during a global pandemic.
The genre has proved tenacious, resilient and funny in the face of a devastating health crisis, adapting to shooting from home, while also preparing for a hotly contested Presidential election.
Deadline has taken a look at the highlights of the year below, exploring the main themes and subjects of the past twelve months, and spoken to the showrunners, as well as a few of the hosts, about how they coped this year and what they’re looking forward to in 2021.
“2020 wasn’t short on challenges: We had a global pandemic, a batshit election season, and story after story of racial injustice in this country,” The Daily Show with Trevor Noah showrunner Jen Flanz told Deadline.

James Corden has addressed rumors that he was set to take over Ellen’s daytime show – saying that there’s “absolutely no truth to that story”.
The Late Late Show host made the statement during the middle of last night’s show. But it wasn’t at his desk, it was right after he drank some hot dog juice during the middle of the latest Spill Your Guts segment (see below).
Corden was playing the game with musical act Alicia Keys, who is performing a week-long drive-in concert on the CBS show.
“Genuinely, I have no idea where that story came from, I think someone started a rumor somewhere and someone jumped on it. There’s absolutely no truth to that story at all, zero,” he said. “As far as far as considering it, I think it would be a crazy thing to take over from someone who I think...
