American Idol alums David Archuleta and Kimberley Locke support ABC’s reboot of the singing competition. Archuleta and Locke shared their thoughts with Us Weekly and they’re both excited for the revival of the show that helped launch their careers.
Archuleta, who was the runner-up on the show in 2007 when David Cook was crowned the season 6 winner, told Us that he hopes the new judges and producers will focus on talent more so than those cringeworthy auditions.
“I know I'm sappy, but I think it would be nice to put more emphasis on the good talent … it's not just we're going to make fun of you, that always hurts me to watch,” the “Up All Night" singer, 26, shared. “I think it's super sad, playing with people's emotions. I think Idol could do without it.

Kieran, turn out the lights.
Our American Idol “journey” has come to an end, but let us not weep for what’s been cancelled, let us instead go to iTunes and download the Season 15 winner’s new single. Hey, from a songwriting vantage point, it may not be “Home,” but it definitely ranks above “No Boundaries” and “Inside Your Heaven” — and we bought those, too. And if this show can produce one more bona fide radio/touring superstar, maybe the inevitable reboot will happen sooner than expected, no?

“Can anybody find me somebody to love?”
I posed one of Queen’s most plaintive lyrics for most of Wednesday’s American Idol “Group Rounds” telecast — and unfortunately, only a handful of contestants answered the call. There were forgotten lyrics, cacophonous harmonies, a few instances of face-down-on-the-carpet exhaustion and a smattering of “I didn’t come here to make friends” squawking. But “Holy crap, I want to know that contestant’s 877-number so I can start voting for him/her right this second!” vocals were in short supply.

It's here, "American Idol" fans. The live finale when we find out who is crowed the Season 12 winner, Candice Glover or Kree Harrison. Based on the comments last night on our recap of the performances, people seem to think Candice has this one in the bag.
However, there have been a lot of seasons when the better "singer" didn't win, so we think it could go either way. Really, the show can't go wrong with either lady. But we'll be here for the two-hour spectacular, which should feature some great performances along the way to finding out who is the next American Idol.

It's time for "American Idol" to end, according to former contestant and Oscar winner Jennifer Hudson.
While promoting her new movie "The Inevitable Defeat of Mister and Pete," Hudson told Celebuzz that "Everything has its time."
Now in its twelfth season, "American Idol" has seen many judging panel changes and declining ratings. The show that produced chart-toppers and Hollywood successes such as Hudson, Kelly Clarkson and Carrie Underwood, is now facing stiff competition in the reality singing competition from the likes of "The Voice" and "The X Factor."
However, Hudson -- who will soon appear on "Smash" Season 2 -- isn't ignoring what "American Idol" did for her career and for TV as a whole. "'American Idol' changed the face of television,” she said. “So, not everyone can say that. And, it’s always been a phenomenon. I’m proud to have come from 'American Idol,' so I just say,...

The battle for the American Idol judging job continues as season two finalist Kimberley Locke is the latest name publicly lobbying for the position. "I would love to sit in that chair and, you know, give some advice from the contestants' standpoint because I've been on that stage and I know what it's like," the former second runner-up told the Associated Press on Monday. Photos: 'American Idol' Live: The 2012 Tour In Pictures Locke said her experience on the show will be beneficial to future hopefuls, but said she won't back away from telling them the cold, hard

New York — Kimberley Locke wants to fill that vacant judge's chair on "American Idol." The season two finalist feels having a former contestant on the show can bring renewed interest to the popular TV singing competition.
"I would love to sit in that chair and, you know, give some advice from the contestant's standpoint because I've been on that stage and I know what it's like," Locke said Monday in an interview with The Associated Press.
But don't consider her a pushover. Locke says she would be brutally honest about each performance and "give it with no fluff."
"When you're a contestant on that show you do need that hard truth sometimes," Locke says, anticipating her critical tone would fall somewhere between the styles of two former judges.
"I'm not quite as nice as Paula (Abdul). Paula's super, supernice but I don't think I'm quite as mean as Simon (Cowell) either.

When they competed on American Idol, season 2's Kimberley Locke and season 8’s Scott MacIntyre were mentored by some of the top people in the music industry. Now, life comes full circle as the pair of top 10 finalists become mentors themselves, joining a team of Idol insiders to coach the next generation of talented singers at “Audition Star,” a summer camp to be held June 25 through 29 at Atlantis, Paradise Island, the popular resort in the Bahamas. Locke and MacIntyre will join three Idol production staffers -- vocal coach Peisha McPhee, associate musical director Michael Orland and stylist Miles

There’s this weird part of the week — from Friday morning till Monday evening — when not a single major TV network airs a reality singing competition. It’s terrible, I know, but it also gives me a lot of time to ponder American Idol history. (Everyone does this in their free time, yes?) And my latest flight of Idol fancy got me mulling this question: Was Season 11′s Top 10 the strongest — top to bottom — in show history? Let’s examine:
For starters, I’d automatically rule out the five seasons with three or more Top 10 contestants who probably wouldn’t have outlasted Season 11′s No.

The "Project Runway All Stars" season is upon us (premieres Thurs., Jan. 5, 9 p.m. Est on Lifetime), and while I'm so excited to see Mondo, Rami, Sweet P, Austin, Kenley and the gang try to make it work again, I can't help but think about what other reality competition shows are due for an all-star season of their own.
"Top Chef" has done it; "The Amazing Race" got its shot; "Survivor" and "Big Brother" routinely bring back winners and fan favorites; and Tyra Banks just had her favorite smizing runners-up back for more "America's Next Top Model."
So what other shows are deserving of the all-star treatment? Here are five I'd like to see ...
1. "The Real Housewives"
"Housewives" fans love to debate which city has the most drama, but nothing could ever top what would happen if Bravo plucked the biggest divas of the bunch, from all the show's many editions,...

Last month, while interviewing executive producer Nigel Lythgoe for a story about possible changes to American Idol for its upcoming eleventh season, I proposed the idea that the show should introduce a list of 11 songs that would be banned from the live performance rounds on the grounds that they’ve been done to death in previous seasons. Lythgoe’s response caught me off guard: “Well, Mike, if you want to write down and send me 11 songs that you don’t want to hear again, I will put them through to the committee.”
Well, sir, you don’t have to ask me twice!

They rolled out the blue carpet yesterday in new York for the movie premiere of The Smurfs. This is a CGI/live-action adaptation of the 1980's NBC Saturday morning cartoon series based on a Belgian comic book. Unless you were a fan of the source material, this probably seems like a terrible idea for a movie, but the film production rounded up quite a lot of talent... so who knows.
Neil Patrick Harris, Jayma Mays, Hank Azaria, Sofia Vergara and Tim Gunn all have live-action parts, while Katy Perry, Anton Yelchin, Alan Cumming, Paul Ruebens and many others give voice ot the animated Smurf characters. Almost all of the film's stars joined their plushy blue castmates for yesterday's premiere. Check out the photos below...

Her romances, which included 10+ marriages, were a subject of viewer fascination, though her character also faced issues such as abortion, drug abuse and being the parent of a gay child.
