There is nothing extraordinary about Norma. A sweet-natured and caring elderly lady, she bears a crown of hair curlers on her head and the weight of decades of marriage on her shoulders. But today is Norma’s birthday and she has finally had enough of her daughter’s constant complaints and her husband’s barely concealed resentment. Written and directed by Emily Munster during lockdown No.1, Norma is a character study of a woman trapped in her house and in the memories of her long-lost youth, giving the nine-minute darkly funny short huge emotional heft and crowd appeal. Grounded by a winning central performance by Susie Blake, the film showcases the importance of dreaming and seeking happiness at every stage in life, without ever slipping into saccharine or self-pitying waters. We are celebrating the online premiere of Norma with cake and plenty of insights from Munster – from the reasons behind...

New Delhi, May 4 (Ians) Indian startups must give priority to good governance and financial management and create new benchmarks not only for India but also for other G20 nations, G20 Sherpa Amitabh Kant has stressed.
Globally, startups have evolved into the catalyst for economic recovery, reorientation and growth driven by innovation.
At the sidelines of a think tank conference organised by Nishith Desai Associates and TiE Mumbai recently, Kant reiterated the importance of developing the corporate governance standards for India Inc to go global and establish norms for other G20 countries.
“It is important that these startup founders must adhere to best practices in corporate governance and financial management at the grassroots level and not consider these as an afterthought,” said Kant.
For India to become a trillion-dollar economy, maturing of Indian startups is mandatory, he added.

New Delhi, April 25 (Ians) Twitter CEO Elon Musk on Tuesday said that verified accounts on the microblogging site will now be prioritised.
“Verified accounts are now prioritised,” he tweeted.
This development might give special attention to people who have had their accounts verified.
For instance, if your account is verified, people looking at Twitter are more likely to see your posts.
Last week, Musk removed all legacy verified accounts with Blue check marks.
American actor Charlie Sheen publicly begged Musk to return his blue Twitter check mark.
Sheen, like thousands of others, lost his official verification badge after a site-wide purge of legacy verified accounts.
He was among the ones who refused to pony up for Twitter Blue – Musk’s $8-dolllar-a-month subscription service.
However, Sheen’s blue check was soon restored.
Amitabh Kant, the former chief executive officer of Niti Aayog, also lost the Blue Tick on Twitter.

M. Night Shyamalan is back in the spotlight, with a brand-new film that is making waves. His movies have a history of causing controversy, mostly due to their shocking finale twists — but unlike many of his contemporaries, the director rarely relies on blood or gore in order to get attention. While many of Shyamalan’s movies have earned a PG-13 rating, the director recently revealed that there’s one film that very nearly got an R rating. In fact, he ended up having to cut one specific sound effect in order for the film to receive the more widely-accepted PG-13.

Night Shyamalan is seen on stage at the Opening Ceremony and “Peter von Kant” premiere during the 72nd Berlinale International Film Festival Berlin at Berlinale Palast on February 10, 2022 in Berlin, Germany. | Andreas Rentz/Getty Images

More than 20 years after adapting a Rainer Werner Fassbinder play called “Waters Drops on Burning Rocks” into a movie, François Ozon has made this gender-flipped adaptation of one of Fassbinder’s greatest films, “The Bitter Tears of Petra von Kant,” in an attempt to understand Fassbinder’s real-life struggle with the power plays of love.
Fassbinder’s “Petra von Kant” was shot very quickly on a very low budget, and he used a lot of long takes; every camera movement in Fassbinder’s version of this material feels so ultra-controlled that watching it is like getting tied up in an S & M dungeon or getting slowly strangled by a python. Ozon shoots his own “Peter von Kant” with a casualness that can feel frivolous, and he uses very conventional short takes for shot/reverse shot conversations.

We are lucky to be in a world where LGBTQ+ filmmakers and stories have a wide-reaching spotlight. From dramas to genre films, representation is wonderful. Sometimes, however, it is good to remember before this golden era and honor the masters of the past who pushed boundaries to get us where we are. A notable gay filmmaker of the 20th century is German filmmaker Rainer Werner Fassbinder, a writer, director, and actor who lived a short life but left an integral impact and helped spawn the German ’70s new wave scene that also launched filmmakers like Wim Wenders and Werner Herzog.

He won the Academy’s biggest prize for One Flew Over The Cuckoo’s Nest (1975), Amadeus (1984) and The English Patient (1996), and produced such other films as The Unbearable Lightness Of Being, Goya’s Ghosts and the 1978 animated version of The Lord of the Rings directed by Ralph Bakshi. Over his long career, Zaentz produced several notable films adapted from literary works, including Cuckoo’s Nest (based on Ken Kesey’s novel), which earned he and then-young producer Michael Douglas five Academy Awards, including Best Picture.
