Did you know "The Day the Earth Blew Up: A Looney Tunes Movie" was even happening before you clicked on this article? You would think Warner Bros. would treat the first-ever fully animated feature-length theatrical film (not including any of the previous "Looney Tunes" package movies that compile multiple shorts) featuring some of the most iconic cartoon characters in cinema history as a momentous occasion. But no, under the reign of current WB Discovery CEO David Zaslav, "The Day the Earth Blew Up" has thus far been treated as little more than extra "content" for the fire (apologies for using the C-word).
Case in point, the original plan was to quietly shuffle "The Day the Earth Blew Up" onto Max with little fanfare -- right up until Zaslav's regime went all Freddy Krueger on the streaming platform's animation department and canceled half a dozen of their developing projects back in...

This week, Warner Bros. Animation will have a presence at the Ottawa International Animation Festival. And one of the projects that they’ll be highlighting is “The Day the Earth Blew Up: A Looney Tunes Movie,” one of several animated features and TV series that HBO Max scrapped earlier this summer. The feature is still in production and looking for a new streaming home, and we’ve got the exclusive clip that you can watch above.
The clip not only captures the spirit of classic Warner Bros. characters like Porky and Daffy, but also because reveals that the film is seemingly traditionally animated, which harkens back to the company’s rich history of hand-drawn animation. What makes it so striking, too, is that the comedy in the clip is contemporary. Yes, it’s indebted to the past, but it’s not mired. It’s unafraid to be modern.

It’s wabbit hunting season once again, only this time, someone has come for Elmer Fudd’s gun.
In the new Looney Tunes Cartoons series (which debuted May 27 on HBO Max), the huntsman is back in action, but his signature rifle is gone. (And he often doesn’t even appear in his hunting outfit.) Instead, Fudd — as does Yosemite Sam, who used to pack a pair of pistols — sometimes swings a scythe. The switch-up is reportedly a change made in response to U.S. gun violence. Yet despite this modification, the classic Looney Tunes violence and mayhem will still be allowed.

Elmer J. Fudd will have to find another way to bag that wascally wabbit, Bugs Bunny, during hunting season. Because in the updated Looney Tunes cartoons streaming on HBO Max, he won’t be allowed to have a rifle, according to a report.
In the new versions of the classic cartoons, Fudd will still be hunting, but will use a scythe. That’s a modification in response to Us gun violence, according to a report.
In response to Us gun violence, the showrunners will not include firearms in Fudd’s arsenal. That is not to say that he has given up hunting Bugs Bunny, though – he just uses a scythe instead.
“We’re not doing guns,” said Peter Browngardt, executive producers of the series, in an interview with the New York Times. “But we can do cartoony violence – TNT, the Acme stuff.”
Browngardt added that the cartoons will stay true to the originals.

Looney Tunes has had a rather interesting 40 years. When their glory days faded, they started releasing box office films that acted as glorified clip shows. They made crossover/cameo appearances in a Disney movie. They spent a few years acting as torch-passing professors to a crop of teenage knockoffs. Then they did a movie with Michael Jordan that wasn’t very good, but is so weird that it’s considered a beloved cornerstone of the ‘90s. There were a couple of spinoff shows for Taz and Tweety, as well as a whole lot of embarrassing shirts featuring characters wearing baggy pants and backwards caps.
Things got worse when their Brendan Frasier movie failed to scrounge up interest. They became extreme space superheroes, Daffy became a different kind of space superhero, and then they tried some more modern takes on the Looney Tunes concept with mixed results. Though it did teach...

Annecy, France — One of the most highly-anticipated presentations at this year’s Annecy Intl. Animation Festival was the world premiere of a slate of new “Looney Tunes Cartoons” shorts. To celebrate the occasion, and include fans from around the world that couldn’t make it to French festival, Warner Bros. Animation has shared an exclusive 90 second short with Variety.
As classic as they come, “Dynamite Dance” is an explosive thrill ride featuring Bugs Bunny and Elmer Fudd, dressed in his traditional brown hunting suit and hat, in a cartoonishly-violent, non-verbal and classically orchestrated back and forth.
Set to Amilcare Ponchielli’s classic “Dance of the Hours,” Elmer fails time and again to get his hands on bugs, instead ending up with hands, mouth and ears full of the iconic red sticks of Acme dynamite.

The Looney Tunes are back, and world premiering at the opening ceremony for this year’s Annecy Intl. Animation Festival, in what looks set in all probability to be one of this year’s highest-profile bows at the French animation gathering.
After teasing the series with an in-progress short at last year’s Warners animation showcase, to riotous laughter and applause, Bugs and his gang return in a fully-finished short ahead of Monday night’s opening feature “Playmobil: The Movie.”
In addition to Monday’s world premiere, on Wednesday executive producer Peter Browngardt and supervising director Alex Kirwan will present a behind-the-scenes look at the project including storyboards, animatics and more fully-finished shorts. According to them, the studio already has more than 20 finished shorts, a number which will grow to 200-plus, or 1,000 total minutes of “Looney Tunes Cartoons.”

Bugs, Daffy, Porky and the lot are headed to the French-Swiss border where they will open the 2019 Annecy Intl. Animation Film Festival, in what the festival has announced as the world premiere of new episodes of the rebooted franchise titled “Looney Tunes Cartoons.”
They will screen ahead of the previously announced opening film “Playmobil: The Movie.”
Last year’s Works in Progress presentation by Warner Animation Group and Warner Bros. Animation at Annecy was among the best received in recent memory. Cartoon Network has revealed their 2013-2014 TV show lineup today and, much to the dismay of fans, confirmed that that “Green Lantern: The Animated Series” and “Young Justice” have been canceled. While this may not come as the biggest surprise for the “Young Justice” viewers who paid attention to both the series’ hiatus and subsequent cancellation of its comic book counterpart, the news certainly comes as a blow for fans. Together with the end of “Green Lantern: The Animated Series”, this leaves only “Beware the Batman” and “Teen Titans Go” as the remaining DC Nation shows, both of which have yet to premiere on the network.
While the absence of the shows didn’t necessarily cement the cancellation of the series, Giancarlo Volpe, the showrunner for “Green Lantern: Tas” confirmed the news via his Twitter stating, “This time we knew. They just didn’t want us to announce it publicly until they did.

That show Is coming back for another season, the same of which can’t be said for Green Lantern or Young Justice – those two superhero shows have, at least according to the press release, been replaced by Teen Titans Go! and Beware the Batman. Also detailed in today’s press release is The Yoda Chronicles, which ties into the new Lego Star Wars releases.

The 300 prequel, which up until recently was called 300: Battle of Artemisia, will now be dumbed further down and from this point on will be known as 300: Rise of an Empire. I’m guessing the simpler title was designed for the American audience; their depth and breadth of history study being limited to the last 50 or 70 years.
Meanwhile, people who’ve become obsessed with finding and reporting news before anyone else, has come up with what looks like the title for J.J. Abrams sequel to his reboot of Star Trek. Someone, trolling the sites where domain names are registered by movie studios, has informed entertainment websites that the film will be titled Star Trek Into Darkness. Yeah, no semicolons, no numbers, not even an ellipse.
DreamWorks has acquired the rights to Leigh Bardugo’s young adult novel series The Grisha Trilogy. The first book, Shadow and Bone was released in June.

The two projects hail from Cartoon Network Studios’ homegrown shorts development initiative. Steven Universe, from Adventure Time writer-artist Rebecca Sugar, is a coming-of-age story told from the perspective of Steven, the youngest member of a team of magical Guardians of the Universe. Uncle Grandpa, from Pete Browngardt, is based upon an Emmy-nominated short and follows the exploits of everyone in the world’s “magical” uncle and grandpa. Both shows are in preproduction and are slated for 2013 premieres.
