Hunter served as a deputy district attorney for the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office for 16 years. She is now a judge of the Superior Court of Los Angeles County in California. She was first appointed to this position by former Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger to succeed Oale Fisher. She assumed office in 2005. She received her B.S. from California State University, Long Beach and her J.D. from University of La Verne. Prior to becoming a judge for the Superior Court of Los Angeles County, Hunter worked for law firms Malek and Malek and Sheild and Smith.
