Ruben Russo was born in Centurion, South Africa. His mother Riana is of South African decent, and his father Daniel is of South African/Australian decent. At the age of six Ruben Russo immigrated from South Africa to Brisbane, Queensland, Australia.
Since the age of 17 years old, the award-winning Ruben Russo has been working on films as both cast and crew. Including Five Moons of Pluto (2020), The Master Cow (2021), The Curious Case of Dolphin Bay (2022) and A Loud Silence (2022). He has also secured representation with the high regarded agency, Gilchrist Management.
Ruben Russo then ventured into 2D animation, developing his skills and began the development of his short film, You Gave Me Life. He has furthermore worked on numerous graphic designs, animation and commissioned photography and art projects. However, in 2023 Ruben Russo co-developed, co-produced, edited and colored his debut short film as lead actor Arlo, in Arlo and The Sea.
Arlo and The Sea will premiere in November 2023 at the prestigious SF3 film festival. Prior to the film's release it has already been featured in media publications such as The Grue Rumeshow and Supanova, where Ruben Russo hosted a panel to promote the upcoming queer film.
