Japanese manga series “Tiger Mask” is being adapted into a live-action feature for the international market by Italy’s Fabula Pictures and Brandon Box and Japan’s Kodansha.
The popular manga, which follows a ruthless professional Japanese wrestler named Naoto Date who after making it big in the U.S. returns to his country and fights against evil forces, previously inspired an anime TV series made by Japan’s Toei Animation.
“Tiger Mask’ is a long-beloved figure both in Japan and Italy, where he’s been [considered] a strong, cool and timeless hero since the series’ first release in 1969,” Yohei Takami, head of Kodansha’s media business rights division, said in a statement.
“We are excited to be able to bring a new ‘Tiger Mask’ to global audiences, partnering with respected Italian filmmakers sharing the love and passion for ‘Tiger Mask’ with us, like Fabula Pictures and Brandon Box,” he added.

At the Cannes Film Festival, Italy’s 102 Distribution is selling thriller “Light Falls,” directed by Phedon Papamichael, the cinematographer on James Mangold’s “Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny.” Papamichael, who was Oscar nominated for handling the cinematography on Alexander Payne’s “Nebraska” and Aaron Sorkin’s “The Trial of the Chicago 7,” talks to Variety about shooting “Light Falls.”
The film tells the story of Clara, played by Elene Makharashvili, and Ella, played by Nini Nebieridze, two young lovers whose Greek island holiday spirals out of control when a tragic incident leads to an encounter with a trio of illegal Albanian immigrants. The thriller establishes the relationship of the young women before moving in a darker and more violent direction.
Papamichael told Variety: “The movie starts like an Eric Rohmer movie and ends like a Tarantino movie. It has a social political angle as well as playing like a thriller.

As if we needed another reason to declare Sunday’s FIFA World Cup Final between Argentina and France the best soccer game of all time. The Argentina victory, at long last for star Lionel Messi, was the most-watched World Cup Final in U.S. and English-language TV history, according to Nielsen data.
The Argentinian team, Messi, and Fox are probably still kissing trophies as we speak.
Argentina-France scored 16.783 million total viewers on Fox and Fox streaming services.
The previous high came from 1994, when Brazil vs. Italy drew an average of 14.510 million viewers on ABC. After a 0-0 draw, that one also went to penalty kicks; Brazil triumphed 3-2. Beyond the nail-biting excitement, the ’94 final drew extra American eyeballs due to location: Brazil’s big win took place at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, California. The Argentina-France game also surpassed a prior record set earlier in this World Cup, when 15.491 million...

"People love you so much because you showed them you're human." Netflix has revealed the full-length official trailer for Baggio: The Divine Ponytail, also known as Il Divin Codino (which is just "The Divine Ponytail") in Italian. The Netflix film retraces the 22-year-long career of famous football / soccer player Roberto Baggio, focusing on the champions' story and the one of the man behind it. By telling the story of the rise of both the champion and the man behind it, the conflicts with his coaches, the unforeseen events and an extraordinary ability to react, it paints the portrait of an icon destined to become, over the years, a symbol of Italian football throughout the world. Huzzah! It will also take a closer look at the man himself, his relationship with his family, and his Buddhist beliefs. It's not a documentary film, but a fictionalization, starring Andrea Arcangeli as Roberto Baggio.
