As far as superhero films are concerned, the aura of the character is not just in the powers they possess but also in their appearance. The costume, therefore, is a key component that adds to the appeal of these icons from the comic book world. From Marvel’s Spider-Man to DC’s Superman, costume designers in Hollywood have pushed the envelope to bring out the nuances of these characters.

Designer James Acheson has proved that he is the authority in this regard, having designed Tobey Maguire’s 2002 suit for Spider-Man and Henry Cavill’s Man of Steel costume. While Zack Snyder’s chequered relationship with audiences restricted some fans from appreciating the modern Superman suit, the realization that both these outfits were designed by the same person, is making them look at these costumes in a new light.

A lot of you were not fans of the first part of Rebel Moon, Zach Snyder's sci-fi action epic and Star Wars adjacent. I'll admit that I've not gone back to it since watching it the weekend it dropped on Netflix. I could just throw Kurosawa's Seven Samurai back on, that would be resolved in less time than this first part ... ... I'm sorry. Was that mean? That was mean, wasn't it? I'll get back to the task at hand. Rebel Moon - Part Two: The Scargiver is coming to Netflix April 19, 2024, and in a bid to win us over the offcial trailer has arrived and it is very action heavy. Very slow motion action heavy, but heavy nonetheless. Visually, okay,...

It’s no secret that Zach Snyder has big plans for Rebel Moon. In addition to the two Netflix movies, Snyder is also planning an animated series, an animated comic, and a narrative podcast, and he told Entertainment Weekly that he also has an idea for a Rebel Moon spinoff focusing on the younger days of Balisarius.
Balisarius is the tyrant in charge of the Imperium, the military force featured in Rebel Moon. The role is played by Fra Fee, but fans might notice that Balisarius looks to be quite a bit older than the actor playing him; It turns out that’s all by design.
“This hasn’t been confirmed, but I was hoping if there were ever a spinoff, like a TV show or something, about the younger days of Balisarius, that I would love a young actor to play that part. So we just aged him for this,...

The (actual) commandant of Auschwitz, Rudolf Höss (Christian Friedel) and his wife Hedwig strive to build a dream life for their growing family in a lovely villa and garden whose back wall abuts the concentration camp. The Netflix co-ceo pointed specifically to the fact that his streamer kept the content pipeline flowing during the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes.
The Streaming Wars may be giving way to the Age of Aggregation at the moment, but Netflix is happy to savor its position as the winner of the war. With 247.15 million subscribers worldwide, Netflix is far and away the world’s largest streamer, and even recent strikes by Hollywood’s biggest writers’ and actors’ unions didn’t seem to slow it down.
Netflix co-ceo Ted Sarandos criticized the wave of streaming services slashing content and raising prices at a conference this week. Sarandos pointed out Netflix managed to keep adding new content during WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes, and pipeline won’t slow down. Netflix projects a similar subscriber gain to last quarter’s 8.76 million in Q4, and will keep content spend at $17 billion in 2024. Sassy Sarandos

Ted Sarandos is happy the twin Hollywood strikes are over — but the Netflix co-ceo claimed the streamer didn’t see significant “interruption” in its ability to launch original series and films.
“We are mostly just thrilled that the strikes are behind us. I’m really excited about that,” Sarandos said, speaking Monday at the Ubs Global Media and Communications Conference in New York.
Sarandos, who was among the studio CEOs at the bargaining table for the contentious WGA and SAG-AFTRA negotiations, commented about the post-strike environment, “It’s one of those times when nobody says, ‘We have too much content.'” But, he continued, “We didn’t really have much interruption in our delivery to customers.”
“Not that Covid was good for anybody, but it did give us muscle for delivering content in an uncertain time,” the exec said.

David Fincher has firmly established himself as a master of blending art and commerce. It’s especially impressive considering his output has been uniformly dark, moody and disturbing, with flashes of wit and satire thrown in. Let’s take a look back at all 12 of his films, ranked worst to best.
Born in 1962, Fincher cut his teeth at special effects house Industrial Light and Magic, working on such films as “Star Wars: The Return of the Jedi” (1983) and “Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom” (1984). He left to pursue a career in directing, making his mark with a commercial for the American Cancer Society that depicted a fetus smoking a cigarette. He co-founded Propaganda Films, a production house for music videos and commercials that employed future filmmakers Spike Jonze, Michael Bay, Antoine Fuqua, Alex Proyas, Mark Romanek, Zach Snyder and Gore Verbinski. Fincher himself helmed several famous music videos, including “Vogue,...

Netflix is one of the only profitable streaming services, and this strategy allows it to double down on those profits and build a better reputation for quality.
Netflix knows that $17 billion will buy a lot of shows and movies. That’s the number the streamer arrived at to spend on content in 2023, and when it was following the strategy of attempting to have a new movie ready for release every week, it seemed it would need every cent of that $17 billion. However, as the economy and the streaming landscape have changed, so have the goals and priorities of the world’s largest streamer.
Netflix is focusing on a quality-over-quantity strategy with its original movies, a shift in thinking from the last few years. Upcoming titles include the awards-bait “Maestro,” David Fincher’s “The Killer,” and “Rebel Moon” from Zach Snyder. The streamer is also adding more licensed content, freeing up...

Despite its disputes being more than seven years old, David Ayer’s 2016 superhero film, “Suicide Squad,” continues to be a source of controversy for dejected fans online and a point of contention for the filmmaker. Part of it is because “Suicide Squad” was a vestige of the old Zach Snyder-led DC Universe, which is no more, and part of it is because the film was apparently tampered with beyond belief.

Warner Bros. held the premiere for the long-awaited DC spinoff The Flash today in Hollywood with its star Ezra Miller, who has been the subject of several tabloid headlines from alleged assaults in Hawaii to unlawful trespassing at a neighbor’s house in Vermont, making their red carpet debut since such incidents.
Miller made an appearance on the red carpet at Ovation Hollywood sporting a bun and wearing a white jacket paired with black slacks.
Before the screening, Miller thanked multiple people like director Andy Muschietti, Zach Snyder and Warner Bros. Discovery boss David Zaslav. Miller also had some words for “the dynamic duo” Peter Safran and James Gunn saying he was grateful “for your grace and discernment and care in the context of my life and in bringing this moment to fruition.”

First things first. This is not a ‘Batman’ film as many people have assumed it to be. This is truly a ‘Flash’ film which does feature the Batman in a limited screen time sort of appearance.
Andy Muschietti has created something which DC fans thought they would never get to see. An almost perfect blend of action, story and humor which almost all Dceu movies have been devoid off. Zach Snyder’s Justice League got the story and action right but was extremely gloomy (not that I am complaining) for the most part. With ‘The Flash’, we end up getting an older MCU style film which not only entertains but also gives us a peak into how future DC films could look like. It answers the question “What if someone does get it right and make a DC film to rival some of the best MCU films?”

The current climate at Warner Bros has been tense since a big merger between the studio and Discovery took place. CEO David Zaslav has been making headlines with a series of unpopular and shocking decisions. One of the more controversial ones, if not the biggest so far, is the cancelation of a movie that had already wrapped its principal photography – the now notoriously canceled Batgirl.
Recently, the directors of the movie, Bilall Fallah and Adil El Arbi, gave an interview on the French entertainment YouTube channel, Skript. In this video, they talk about how they at least tried to salvage some footage from the film, but unfortunately, Warner Bros has deleted it from their server. They wanted to at least preserve the scenes with Keaton’s Batman. The Direct transcribes the translated interview, as Fallah explains,
No, we have nothing. Adil called and told me, ‘Go ahead! Shoot everything on your phone!

Fassy on the set of 300
A bit of very random silliness since we now know when the next Oscars will be held. With 300 days to go, the film 300 popped into my mind. It was a big hit fifteen years ago grossing almost half a billion globally and becoming the 10th highest grossing film of 2007 in the US. Thrillist once argued it was the most influential movie of the Aughts. It received plentiful MTV Movie and Saturn Awards nominations but zero love from Oscar which is... appropriate. But every once in a while we think about the fact that it was Michael Fassbender's debut film (!) and that director Zach Snyder has continued to have a surprisingly fanatic cult following... so much so that his work factored into Oscar's embarrassing "fan favourites" contest this past season. So it prompted a question: Have any 300 alums outside of Michael...

Monday Am: Rival studios easily saw Batman doing in the mid $130Ms yesterday Am, and today Warner Bros. is reporting $134M after a $34.1M Sunday, -21% from Saturday. Presales were strong throughout the weekend. Look for Batman to ease 50% in weekend 2 with an estimated $67M. Batman doesn’t encounter any studio wide competition until March 25, when Paramount opens its Sandra Bullock-Channing Tatum-Brad Pitt-Daniel Radcliffe adventure romantic comedy The Lost City, which is getting ready to blast off at SXSW next weekend.

“Ghostbusters: Afterlife”
The VFX team at Mpc Film was responsible for animating the Mini-Pufts scene for “Ghostbusters: Afterlife.” “It was one of those moments when you remember why you wanted to be an animator and work in VFX,” says Mpc Film animation supervisor Christophe Paradis.
In one memorable sequence, the mischievous Mini-Pufts marshmallows cause havoc in a Walmart, burning, blending and melting each another.
“In our dailies sessions with director Jason Reitman and production supervisor Alessandro Ongaro, our team was encouraged to bring their own ideas to the table,” says VFX supervisor Pier Lefebvre. “I think the choreography was the perfect combination of gruesome, evil, infantile, savage, unhinged and funny, all while bringing personality to each marshmallow. Our inspiration for the scene included the 1984 movie ‘Gremlins,’ released the same year as the original ‘Ghostbusters.’”

For some reason Warner Bros isn’t dropping any of their film footage from their upcoming movies at DC FanDome on social today, except for Black Adam.
There was a snippet of The Flash star Ezra Miller talking from the set saying they’re in production and don’t have enough to show off a teaser, but he came armed with more than he promised.
In the sneak peek which opens in the fog, a taxi arrives. We’re inside an empty mansion and we’re given the impression that Flash can go to any timeline; it appears his past with his Mom. There’s than a moment when Miller approaches Batman, and Miller’s Flash says “Are you in?”. The clip ends with Miller pulling a sheet off of what we can assume is The Batmobile.

Among the 21 Emmy nominations Hulu’s “The Handmaid’s Tale” racked up this year is the career-first citation for one of its series regulars, Max Minghella, who plays Nick Blaine on the show. “To see so much of the ‘Handmaid’s’ family recognized, but specifically the crew, was really meaningful because this year was so arduous and difficult,” Minghella says euphorically about his individual and the show’s recognition. In our exclusive video interview (watch above), Minghella discusses his character’s progression throughout the series, his Emmy episode submission, and his collaboration with leading lady and director Elisabeth Moss.
The series is based on Margaret Atwood‘s 1985 novel of the same name, which is set in a dystopian near-future America, where women are enslaved as ‘handmaids’ due to plummeting birth-rates and forced to bear children for the ruling class in the new authoritarian Gilead theocracy. Zach Snyder’s new Las Vegas zombie heist romp shows film’s long love affair with the undead is very much alive and kicking
For devotees of maximalist blockbuster merchant Zack Snyder, you’d think 2021 had already yielded quite enough excitement. The result of what online fan armies can achieve through sheer vocal persistence, the director’s four-hour cut of his botched 2017 superhero pileup Justice League – out on DVD on Monday – was released on Sky Cinema and Now TV in March, though its colossal swelling of essentially generic material probably won few converts to the Snyder cult.
Yet two months later, another great big slab of Snyder has landed on Netflix, and this one’s more fun. Weighing in at a comparatively modest 148 minutes, his Las Vegas-set zombie heist romp Army of the Dead is a cheerful hodgepodge of genres that largely dispenses with the murky self-importance of his superhero...

The robust, if short-term, theatrical run for Netflix’s Army of the Dead starting May 21 is a sign of the marketplace to come, in the view of Cinemark CEO Mark Zoradi.
During a virtual panel at the MoffettNathanson Media & Communications Summit, Zoradi said the Zach Snyder-directed action movie’s release took shape in recent months. The companies had staged tests in select markets of Netflix movies like Christmas Chronicles 2.
Deeming those tests successful, Zoradi recalled, “We came back to the table and said, ‘What else can we do?’ And ‘Army of the Dead’ came up. It was a little bit short in our timeframe of getting it done, and I think as we go forward we’ll have more time.”
Rolling the tape back, he said, the snarled negotiations over The Irishman would turn out a lot differently in a marketplace like that of 2021, given Covid-19 and the overall boom in streaming.

David Fincher has firmly established himself as a master of blending art and commerce. It’s especially impressive considering his output has been uniformly dark, moody and disturbing, with flashes of wit and satire thrown in. The Netflix film “Mank” has brought him back to the Oscars in the Best Director category. Let’s take a look back at all 11 of his films, ranked worst to best.
He co-founded Propaganda Films, a production house for music videos and commercials that employed future filmmakers Spike Jonze, Michael Bay, Antoine Fuqua, Alex Proyas,...

The ad-supported version of HBO Max, set to launch in June 2021, already has $80 million in upfront advertising commitments, WarnerMedia CEO Jason Kilar said.
Kilar, speaking Friday at AT&T’s analyst and investor day presentation, didn’t reveal key details of the HBO Max AVOD tier like pricing and ad load.
In terms of content, the only difference between the ad-supported HBO Max and the regular $14.99-per-month premium service is that the the AVOD tier will not include the day-and-date Warner Bros. movie premieres, Kilar said — otherwise, “everything else will be the same.”
In addition, Kilar also confirmed that the HBO Max AVOD version will not include advertising in HBO original series. While he didn’t announce pricing, Kilar said he feels “very, very comfortable” about the ability of the cheaper, ad-supported HBO Max tier to actually produce higher average revenue per user than the ad-free U.S. business.

DC Comics fans just got an unexpected surprise… from the unlikeliest of places.
Zach Snyder’s long-awaited director’s cut of Justice League, aka the #SnyderCut, is due to hit HBO Max next week, but it accidentally leaked on the streamer early on Monday, with multiple users reporting that when they tried to press play on the new Tom & Jerry movie, the Snyder Cut of Justice League began playing instead. (One viewer, Doug Bass, tells our sister site Variety that he got an hour into the film before it stopped and he received an error message.)

It’s happening. It’s finally happening. What was once a particularly pervasive and aggressive Internet meme is now a reality. HBO Max’s list of new releases for March 2021 is highlighted by none other than the mythical Snyder cut.
The entity now known as Zach Snyder’s Justice League will premiere on March 18. While it was originally planned to be a four-part miniseries, this recut version of 2017’s ill-fated Justice League will in fact be a four-hour movie. But perhaps even four hours won’t be enough for fans who have been waiting years for just such an event.

“Justice League” isn’t the only film Zach Snyder is putting out this year. Netflix announced on Sunday that it will release the director’s upcoming zombie film “Army of the Dead” on May 21, two months after the long-demanded “Snyder Cut” is set to hit HBO Max.
In a mashup of “Ocean’s Eleven” and “Dawn of the Dead,” “Army of the Dead” stars Dave Bautista as the head of a team of mercenaries that tries to steal countless millions from a Vegas casino during a zombie invasion. The film was first announced in 2008 as a sequel to Universal’s remake of “Dawn of the Dead,” but spent years in development hell before Netflix picked up the rights in 2019.

In addition to directing, Snyder co-wrote “Army of the Dead” with Shay Hatten and Joby Harold.

This crazy season is starting to heat up.
The National Board of Review, usually first up in a “normal” season, settled for bringing up the rear this time since the Oscars were moved so late to April 25, and same goes for the Indie Spirit Awards which also offered up its nominations this week. Titles like Nomadland, One Night In Miami, Sound off Metal, Da 5 Bloods and Minari are all happy campers because most of these movies have scored repeatedly during the critics-list phase of Oscar season. Pundits looking to forecast the race based on these early precursors beware: a lot of these groups follow each other like sheep and generally prefer minimalist filmmaking, not necessarily the taste of those voters who toil in the industry itself, particularly from the various crafts. And, in this extended season, we are now...

Update: WarnerMedia has come out swinging in response to the social media post that Ray Fisher wrote on his exit from The Flash and allegations against DC Entertainment President Walter Hamada and his predecessor Geoff Johns. “As has been previously stated, an extensive investigation was conducted by an outside law firm, led by a former federal judge who has assured WarnerMedia that there were no impediments to the investigation,” a spokesperson said. “Last summer, Mr. Fisher was offered the opportunity to reprise his role as Cyborg in The Flash. Given his statement that he will not participate in any film associated with Mr. Hamada, our production is now moving on. Warner Bros. remains in business with Geoff Johns who continues to produce Stargirl, Batwoman, Doom Patrol, Superman & Lois, and Titans for the studio, among other projects.

Billy Crudup is in early negotiations to join Ezra Miller in the DC superhero tentpole “The Flash” for Warner Bros., Variety has confirmed.
Crudup, who recently won an Emmy for drama series for “The Morning Show,” portrayed Dr. Henry Allen as the father to Barry Allen, aka The Flash, in Zach Snyder’s 2017 “Justice League” opposite Miller.
