New Delhi, July 6 (Ians) The approval of the Digital Personal Data Protection (Dpdp) Bill by the Cabinet presents a positive step towards instituting a data protection regime in the country and industry will need to work closely with the government so that the rules are simple and implementable, especially for the startup ecosystem, experts said on Thursday.
The clearance paves the way for the Dpdp Bill to be introduced in Parliament in the upcoming Monsoon session, scheduled to begin on July 20.
“Parliamentary approval will likely be sought during the Monsoon session, and could further invite dialogue/resistance during discussions with stakeholders, which may render this exercise moot,” Abhishek Malhotra, Managing Partner, Tmt Law Practice, told Ians.
The Cabinet had earlier approved a version of the Data protection Bill as well, which met with similar resistance.

So, Vikrant and Dimple were finally united and presented to the world at a star-studded reception in Mumbai on Sunday evening. A reception that will be remembered as much for the glitterati turnout as for the number of solo shows.
Sidharth Malhotra and Kiara Advani, who played the star-crossed lovers in ‘Shershaah’ on Prime Video in 2021, had their happy ever after at their wedding reception at the end of hectic festivities that took them from the glorious resort of Suryagarh in Jaisalmer to the Malhotra home in Delhi and finally to his adopted home in Mumbai.
The couple posed for paps as a stream of stars greeted them. They included Malhotra’s former classmate and rumoured girlfriend from ‘Student of the Year’ (2012), Alia Bhatt, and recent co-actor from ‘Thank You’, Ajay Devgn, who arrived with wife Kajol.
There were, in fact, a procession of solo shows — apart from Abhishek Bachchan...

Taking mixed media art to a whole new level, Varun Desai, Mira Felicia Malhotra and Gaurav Ogale used the Apple iPad Pro to do things at the sort of speed at which the artist can imagine, well almost!
"Apple has been providing me with the best technology for this whole thing… An artwork like mine has a whole bunch of layers, so I am able to create about 150 layers at a really huge size. You can see that I am actually drawing on a small iPad, but it can be blown up to a bigger size," Mumbai-based visual artist and illustrator Malhotra told Ians.
Malhotra, known for her bold, multicoloured, illustrated portraits of Indian women, feels that her iPad Pro and Apple Pencil help her bring her ideas out into the world quicker than ever.

Exclusive: The BBC has apologized for not properly challenging the views of a vaccine skeptic, who claimed that Covid jabs cause heart damage during an interview on BBC News.
In a statement on Thursday, the UK broadcaster said it should have been better prepared for a live exchange with Dr Aseem Malhotra given his history of promoting vaccine hesitancy.
The interview took place on the BBC News channel last Friday, when Malhotra hijacked a conversation about cholesterol medication to claim that coronavirus vaccines “carry a cardiovascular risk.”
He was virtually unchallenged by presenter Lukwesa Burak, who simply asked: “That’s been proven medically, has it?” Malhotra replied that there is “lots of data” to support his claim, before calling for the suspension of the vaccine rollout.
The reality is that Malhotra’s research has been debunked by Health Feedback, a World Health Organization-backed group that verifies scientific claims made about vaccine safety in the media.

The BBC has stoked controversy after giving a virtually unchallenged platform to a Covid jab critic on its rolling news channel.
The UK broadcaster interviewed Dr Aseem Malhotra about a cholesterol medication story on Friday morning, but the vaccine sceptic hijacked the conversation to fan conspiracies about Covid shots.
The exchange is going viral in anti-vax circles on social media. The BBC said it was later rebutted on-air by a leading professor, who represented the “overwhelming scientific consensus on the vaccine.”
Malhotra told BBC presenter Lukwesa Burak that his research had shown that coronavirus vaccines “carry a cardiovascular risk.” He said they had contributed to 30,000 excess deaths involving heart disease in the UK since the pandemic began.
“That’s been proven medically, has it?” Burak asked.

For several years, Oscar-winning director Roger Ross Williams hosted an intimate IDFA paella party at his apartment in Amsterdam for attending directors, producers and editors. But in 2018, Williams and his co-host, documentary producer, and the founder of Motto Pictures, Julie Goldman (“The Velvet Underground”), realized that the annual event had transformed into an award season stop.
“At one point, we looked around, and the whole party was filled with the international AMPAS (Academy of Motion Arts and Sciences) members,” says Goldman. “Then, the last year we had the party, someone rang the buzzer an hour before it was supposed to start. We buzzed him up, and it was this guy named Alex, and he said, ‘I was told that I have to come to this party.’”
It turned out that Alex was Alex Honnold, the subject of “Free Solo” – a film that would later win the Oscar for best feature documentary.

In just 13 yearsDOC NYC has become America’s most influential documentary festival.
The nine-day affair, which runs Nov. 9-17, will feature more than 124 short docus and 112 feature-length nonfiction films that will screen at New York City’s IFC Center, Sva Theater and Cinépolis Chelsea. (The 2022 version will be both in person in New York and accessible online across the U.S.)
One key factor in the festival’s success has to do with where it falls on the calendar — one month before the AMPAS documentary branch begins voting to determine the Oscar documentary shortlist. Then there’s Doc NYC’s 15-feature film shortlist, which has become famous for including docus that eventually earn Oscar nominations and/or wins.
“Summer of Soul,” “American Factory,” “Free Solo,” “Icarus,” “O.J.: Made in America,” “Amy,” “Citizenfour,” “20 Feet From Stardom,” “Searching for Sugar Man,” and “Undefeated” are all films that won the Academy Award for...

The Los Angeles Unified School District has announced that it will make Narcan, an anti-overdose medication, available to all schools. This announcement was made after a 15-year-old student was found dead in a Hollywood school’s bathroom following a fentanyl overdose.
Alberto M. Carvalho, the superintendent, said that naloxone (Narcan) would be available at all K-12 schools. The medication has turned out to be crucial as it “temporarily reverses the effects of an overdose in emergency scenarios.” The National Institutes of Health has said it’s safe and is administered as a nasal spray.
“Research shows that the availability of naloxone along with overdose education is effective at decreasing overdoses and death–and will save lives,” Dr. Smita Malhotra, Medical Director of Lausd, said in a statement. “There has been a growing trend of illicit drugs and contaminated pills containing fentanyl and other life-threatening substances that have entered Los Angeles.
