*full disclosure: a screener of this film was provided by director Patrick Rea. Director: Patrick Rea. Writers: Patrick Rea, and Kendal Sinn. Cast: Joicie Appell, Emily Boresow and Jason Coffman Nailbiter is the latest indie film production to be developed by SenoReality Pictures. SenoReality is a production company created by director Patrick Rea and partner Ryan Jones. This film production company generally focuses on horror shorts with Nailbiter this company's second full feature. This film is this reviewer's first exposure to SenoReality's style of filmmaking and the wait has been worth it. Nailbiter is a production that, while indie, manages to develop a terrifying story. That story shows some influences from the later "Twilight Zone" (1985) television series, "Outer Limits" (1995) and perhaps even the more recent "X-Files" (1993). There is something bizarre and foreboding in that approaching tornado! And the Maguire family must seek shelter before it touches...

SenoReality Pictures and Ministry Machine are co-producing the upcoming indie horror feature Nailbiter. This film combines two terrors in one as a tornado bears down on a mother and her three kids. Their hiding space turns out to be a poor choice with something waiting below. Hopefully that something is not a backed up septic tank. As well, the poster does not give too many clues as to what that something is; however, this first graphic does warn viewers: "in the shadow of the storm it waits." And horror fans will not have to wait long for Nailbiter to release. 2011 is the expected launch date for this terror filled pic'.
As well, SenoReality Pictures is a film production and editing company based in Lawrence, Ks, which has recently completed the films Torture Porn, Next Caller and the award winning Woman's Intuition. Nailbiter continues the SenoReality strategy to create strong thrillers with interesting scenarios.

I had the pleasure of meeting director Patrick Rea this summer at Fright Night Film Fest in Louisville, Kentucky this summer. You meet so many people at these kind of events and at each stop not everyone leaves a lasting impression on you. And then there is Patrick Rea, the guy can make a film, from his writing style to the lighting all the way to his direction of setting the mood for the film. I'm so impressed with Mr. Rea's work I'll be spreading the good word on his projects for now on. I also dare to compare his work with a Spielberg, Lucas, Cameron or even a Craven. Being the indie supporter that I am Rea's work comes across not so much as indie work but has the look of a full blown studio effort, the films are really that impressive! Check out my latest "Versus" with Patrick Rea...

One stumbling block that a lot of indie filmmakers hit is trying to stretch what should be left as a short into a feature-length film. Fortunately, there's a writer/director out there who understands that longer doesn't always mean better: Kansas-based Patrick Rea. When most students finish film school, they immediately set their sights on moving to Hollywood to start making movies. For director Patrick Rea, as well as the entire group behind SenoReality Pictures, it wasn't a hard choice for them to take on the industry straight from the heart of the Midwest.
Lawrence, Kansas, to be exact.
"SenoReality made the conscious decision to not be working in Hollywood," Rea explained. "We are spending the same amount of money to make movies here in Kansas as we would there. But being where we are allows us to feature some really great locations and do more with our budgets. I think we also have more of a presence by being here and not being swallowed up in Los Angeles."

Indie filmmaker Patrick Rea contacted Dread Central recently to let us know about Dark Matter, a new concept in monthly DVD clubs that focuses on a mixture of suspense, science fiction, and fantasy stories, often concluding with a thought-provoking, chilling, or unexpected turn of events.
Here's how it works according to the Dark Matter website:
Essentially, Dark Matter is a Twilight Zone-like anthology series delivered monthly to subscribers on DVD via mail. Don't be fooled by the name, it's not about darkness -- it's about the stories that have been hidden from our sight and the amazing possibilities they contain.
For $19.95 a month (plus shipping and handling), you receive a new DVD every month with 4-5 movies that have been hand-selected for people who appreciate compelling stories. The DVDs you receive from Dark Matter are yours to keep forever. You never have to return anything, and you may cancel any time.

We're pleased to announce that Dread Central is home to another new short from writer/director Patrick Rea entitled "Do Not Disturb". In true Rea fashion, the understated, yet extremely prolific, filmmaker describes it as "pretty weird".
But we did learn a bit more about the project. "Do Not Disturb" is a joint venture of SenoReality and Vedros Motion. The producers were Rea, Ryan S. Jones, Nicholas Vedros, and Michael Stine (who also pulled camera/colorist work duty) with Rea's long-time collaborator Josh Robison doing the editing. The cast includes Allen Lowman (Devil's Fork, Bonnie & Clyde vs. Dracula) as Philip.
According to the official synopsis "Do Not Disturb" is a creepy tale about a mysterious man staying in a hotel who is visited by an unseen entity. It's runtime is a brisk 15 minutes.

I met Patrick Rae at the Chicago Weekend of Horrors back in 2007. Though I'd already known his work quite well, that was the first time we'd met in-person. At the time we were working on Fangoria TV and Patrick’s films were featured regularly to our lineup. I was taken then and continue to be taken with his fantastic sense of what short films are and can be. Naturally we exhibited Patrick’s short films numerous times over the years – not only on our website – but at almost every Fangoria Weekend of Horrors Convention since 2006.
Patrick has a team and yes, they are all from Kansas. His co-producer Ryan Jones also takes care of the sound design. And his skills at sound design are top notch. Ryan does an amazing job with Julian Bickford’s score. The team also includes Hanuman Brown-Eagle as primary Dp and Josh Robison as primary editor.

We're pleased to announce that once again Dread Central is home to the online premiere of a new short film from SenoReality and Free State Studios.
As writer/director Patrick Rea describes it, "Next Caller" is about a late night radio DJ who is doing a show on the supernatural. His skeptism is put to the test when he starts receiving strange phone calls. It was co-produced by Ryan S. Jones and Patrick Rea and stars Allan Kayser (Night of the Creeps) and Jennifer Friend (Bonnie & Clyde vs. Dracula).
Sounds like perfect viewing on a dark, stormy night!

Lawrence, Kansas-based indie director Patrick Rea dropped us a line to let us know his production company SenoReality Pictures recently won a Heartland Regional Emmy Award for the short film "Woman's Intuition." The Heartland chapter of the regional Emmy program covers Kansas, Colorado, Oklahoma, Nebraska, and Wyoming.
Patrick's co-producers were Ryan S. Jones and Josh Robison with Josh and Ryan pulling double-duty as the editor and sound editor, respectively. "Woman's Intuition", a nine-minute thriller about a woman who hears a strange noise when danger is close, is part of the Heartland Horrors: Volume 1 (review) anthology. The production was the first collaboration between SenoReality and Free State Studios, also based in Lawrence, and obviously the pairing paid off!
Rea had this to say about the film's success, "It’s weird [and] kind of surreal. It happened pretty quick." Ann Niccum, Free States' production manager, added, "The thrill of winning is huge. We...
