Following a limited theatrical release, director Zack Snyder’s Rebel Moon: Part One – A Child of Fire (read our review Here) was released through the Netflix streaming service back in December, then Rebel Moon: Part Two – The Scargiver (read our review of that one Here) reached the service last month… but we’ve known from early on that these PG-13 versions of the movies wouldn’t be the only versions we’d see. Snyder has also put together extended director’s cut of both films, which will each have around an hour of additional footage. They’re expected to be released through Netflix sometime this summer, possibly in August, and the director’s cut of Rebel Moon: Part One – A Child of Fire just got its rating from the Motion Picture Association ratings board. It earned an R for brutal bloody violence and gore, sexual content, graphic nudity and language.

Zack Snyder is a prolific filmmaker, and he pushes his creative muscles with every new film he makes. Not all his choices pay dividends, and some of his films have been severely panned by critics. However, he does not let the naysayers deter him from making the stories he is passionate about telling, and he has built up a loyal fanbase over the years.
Rebel Moon—Part One: A Child of Fire was one such project, which was not well received by the audience or the critics and got a rotten score of 21% on Rotten Tomatoes. However, Snyder is back with the second installment, Rebel Moon — Part Two: The Scargiver, and it looks very promising.

Zack Snyder may have his hands full launching Rebel Moon, his sci-fi fantasy film that Netflix unveils Dec. 22, but that doesn’t mean the energetic filmmaker isn’t busy developing other projects.
Enter Blood and Ashes. The film began life as a sequel to 300 and 300: Rise of an Empire, and was one of the last projects Snyder worked on before officially leaving Warner Bros. after the debacle that was Justice League. But what he turned in was quite different from a 300 sequel.
Blood and Ashes, which he partially wrote while shooting Army of the Dead for Netflix in 2019, ended up focusing on the relationship between Alexander the Great and his second in command, Haphaestion. It was a gay love story that was also an ancient Greek war epic, one he said then-Warners executive Courtenay Valenti liked and championed.

A couple days ago, the Netflix streaming service unveiled the first trailer for Rebel Moon Part One: A Child of Fire, the first part of director Zack Snyder’s two-part sci-fi epic, which they will be releasing on December 22nd. Now Netflix has also uploaded a video where Snyder spends almost 9 minutes breaking down the moments in the trailer. You can watch the trailer in the embed above, and check out Snyder’s trailer breakdown at the bottom of this article.
Snyder has always been open about the fact that he’s hoping “a massive IP and a universe that can be built out” from the foundation of Rebel Moon. He crafted the story for Rebel Moon with 300 co-writer Kurt Johnstad, and the pair wrote the screenplay with Army of the Dead co-writer Shay Hatten. Zack Snyder dropped the first official trailer for Rebel Moon – Part One: A Child of Fire during Netflix’s Geeked Week 2023. The three-minute trailer focuses on Sofia Boutella as Kora, a former soldier who is called upon to gather fighters to take on the Motherworld.
Director Zack Snyder co-wrote the screenplay with Kurt Johnstad and Shay Hatten. Snyder also serves as a producer along with his wife, Deborah, and Eric Newman and Wesley Coller. Johnstad, Hatten, Bergen Swanson, and Sarah Bowen executive produce.
During a Geeked Week Q&a, Snyder discussed creating the world of Rebel Moon.

For a while, Zack Snyder was building a cinematic universe for the Netflix streaming service that centered on his zombie movie Army of the Dead. The film was quickly followed by a prequel called Army of Thieves, a sequel was being written, and an anime series called Army of the Dead: Lost Vegas was in the works. But Snyder has since shifted his focus over to building a multi-media universe around his upcoming Netflix sci-fi film Rebel Moon – Part One: A Child of Fire (and its follow-up Rebel Moon – Part Two: The Scargiver). So Army of the Dead: Lost Vegas sits unfinished… and during an interview with Total Film magazine, Snyder revealed that Army of the Dead and Rebel Moon aren’t entirely separate. In fact, if Army of the Dead: Lost Vegas ever gets completed, we’ll be seeing a Rebel Moon crossover on the show!

Director Zack Snyder revealed months ago that there will be two cuts of the movies in his upcoming two-part sci-fi epic, Rebel Moon Part One: A Child of Fire, which will be released through the Netflix streaming service on December 22nd and Rebel Moon Part Two: The Scargiver, which will reach Netflix on April 19, 2024. One cut will be something “anyone can enjoy and watch”, while the director’s cut will be a more explicit version that will allow fans to take “a deeper, harder dive” into the material. He has even said that the director’s cut of Rebel Moon Part One: A Child of Fire has “close to an hour of extra content”… and now Netflix’s Tudum site has posted the runtime for the regular cut of the film. It’s 2 hours and 13 minutes. So it looks like the director’s cut will boost it up to around the 3 hour mark.

Ever since the premiere of "Star Wars" in 1977, movie studios, fans, and filmmakers alike have breathlessly wondered what and when the "next Star Wars" might be. To be sure, there have been many contenders for that title during the last 46 years, with some films that have matched (or surpassed) the financial success of "Star Wars," others that have made a huge impact on pop culture, still others that have spawned long-running franchises, and so on.
One aspect of "Star Wars" that's been particularly hard to replicate, however, is the way it began its own expansive fictional universe that's allowed it to remain popular to this day. While efforts like "The Lord of the Rings" films and the Marvel Cinematic Universe have certainly matched this, both of those were explicitly based on pre-existing material. Netflix has even attempted to establish its own original "Star Wars" killer before, at least in blowhard writer Max Landis' mind.

Rebel Moon: Zack Snyder’s two sci-fi films will get two cuts each to cover a wide range of audiences
Zack Snyder fans will eat well when the filmmaker’s Rebel Moon comes to Netflix in multiple forms. You heard me. In addition to splitting the sci-fi epic into two films, Snyder is creating multiple cuts of each. In an in-depth look at the film, courtesy of Vanity Fair, Snyder explains his Rebel Moon strategy and how he aims to cover a wide range of audiences with each release. One cut is a presentation that “anyone can enjoy and watch,” while the other is an explicit version aimed at adults.
In addition to Vanity Fair‘s in-depth report, the outlet shared a gallery of first-look images for the upcoming sci-fi epic. You can check out select photos from their coverage below:
“I think for fans of mine and people who are ready to take a deeper, harder dive, that’ll be fun for them,” Snyder says about his goal for the more mature cut.

Filmmaker Zack Snyder has affirmed online speculation surrounding his forthcoming Netflix space opera Rebel Moon, confirming that it will be split into two films, with multiple cuts to be released of each installment.
Snyder’s comments came as part of an interview with Vanity Fair, also featuring his producing partner and wife, Deborah Snyder. In it, Deborah explains that the decision to expand Rebel Moon into a two-parter emerged from a dialogue with higher-ups at Netflix, including Film chairman Scott Stuber. “Originally, the script was one movie, but it was in ‘Zack form,'” she says. “It was 172 pages.”
In coming to understand that the film would come in at around a three-hour runtime, she explains, “Stuber was like, ‘On the service, under-two-hour movies really do better for some reason,’ even though you’ll binge-watch a series of eight episodes.

As soon as it was announced that Zack Snyder would be directing a sci-fi epic called Rebel Moon for the Netflix streaming service, Snyder made it clear that they were hoping this would be a franchise-starter. He told The Hollywood Reporter that he wanted Rebel Moon to be “a massive IP and a universe that can be built out”… and even though the first Rebel Moon only started filming a few months ago, Netflix has already secured California tax credits for a sequel. Which they’re currently calling Rebel Moon: Part 2.
The California Film Commission announced their latest round of credit allocations this morning, and Variety reports that Netflix was given 37.1 million worth of tax credits – which is 40 of the total that were given out. 16.6 million of that will be going toward the production of Rebel Moon: Part 2. Coming less than a year after its predecessor, Army of Thieves is a prequel to Zack Snyder’s recent Netflix hit zombie movie, Army of the Dead. But Thieves is not an action-horror hybrid like that earlier movie, which was directed and co-written by Snyder. Instead Thieves is a heist thriller and set in the early days of Dead’s zombie pandemic. Hence the new film focuses on one character we met in the previous film and what he was up to before the zombies struck: Ludwig Dieter (Matthias Schweighöfer), the savant-like safecracker hired in Dead to break open a vault at the center of that film’s storyline.
What makes it all the more interesting is that Snyder didn’t direct the movie either: Schweighöfer did. A director and producer in his native Germany as well as an actor, Schweighöfer finds himself helming his first major international production for...

Zack Snyder and his production company The Stone Quarry, which he runs with his producing partner and wife Deborah Snyder and executive Wesley Coller, have signed a first-look film deal with Netflix.
The first feature The Stone Quarry will make under the deal with Netflix will be “Rebel Moon,” a previously announced science-fiction adventure film that Snyder will direct.
The news comes after Netflix revealed that Snyder’s most recent film “Army of the Dead” was watched by 75 million member households in its first 28 days, making it one of Netflix’s top 10 most watched original films. Stone Quarry also has an anime spinoff from “Army of the Dead” with Netflix called “Army of the Dead: Lost Vegas” and a German-language prequel called “Army of Thieves.”

Zack Snyder is following up on “Army of the Dead” with “Rebel Moon,” an original sci-fi film that the director said is inspired by Akira Kurosawa movies and “Star Wars.”
Per an exclusive in The Hollywood Reporter, Snyder, who will co-write and direct the upcoming film, has set the movie at Netflix, which was also home to the director’s zombie action-adventure film, “Army of the Dead.”
Snyder has long had an interest in creating a film inspired by Kurosawa and “Star Wars.” News broke in 2013 that Snyder was developing a Kurosawa-inspired “Star Wars” film that would’ve been loosely inspired by the classic 1954 film “Seven Samurai” where Jedi Knights and lightsabers would be used instead of ronin and samurai swords. Though the project never came to fruition, Snyder is moving forward with its core story and themes for “Rebel Moon,” albeit without any “Star Wars” connections.
