Fans of 28 Days Later and its follow-up 28 Weeks Later have been waiting seventeen years for another entry in the franchise, hoping we’d someday see a movie called 28 Months Later. We’re not getting that one, but 28 Days Later director Danny Boyle and screenwriter Alex Garland are currently working on reviving the franchise, and they’re going to make this revival worth the wait. Not only are we getting a new movie called 28 Years Later, we’re actually getting a whole trilogy of sequels! Compiled below is everything we know about this 28 Years Later sequel trilogy.
Long In The Works
Way back in 2009, we heard that Paul Andrew Williams (The Cottage) was on board to direct 28 Months Later… but that project didn’t make it into production. Since then, we’ve heard Boyle and Garland mention 28 Months Later every once in a while. They would...

Britain’s contributions to the cinematic form have been vast and glorious. Aardman Animation. Alfred Hitchcock. Olivia Colman. 007. High up that list, too, is the British gangster movie – sure, America may often get the genre limelight with classics like Goodfellas, The Godfather trilogy, and Scarface, but nobody does dark, gritty, violent, and darkly humorous quite like the British. You certainly wouldn’t catch football-hardman-turned-movie-hardman Vinnie Jones rolling down the street with some poor geezer’s bonce trapped in his car window anywhere else, that’s for sure!
And so, with tracksuits on, geezer nicknames doled out, and knuckles dusted, Team Empire assembled a list of the very best British gangster movies ever made. From comedy classics, to bruising turn-of-the-century tales of brutality and crime, to contemporary subversions of the genre formula, we’ve covered all bases. These are films of culture, sophistication, genius. A little bit more than an 'ot dog,...

Production, sales and distribution banner Signature Entertainment is to acquire Latin American production and distribution outfit Particular Crowd.
Based in Los Angeles and Buenos Aires and originally set up as a label at Warner Bros. Discovery before being spun out as an independent company, Particular Crowd has achieved success in recent months with the releases of “La Extorsión” and “Casi Muerta.” Both films secured top positions at the box office for local titles and performed well on Max, where Particular Crowd’s movies are exclusively available locally under a volume deal the company has with Warner Bros. Discovery.
Upcoming Particular Crowd projects include Brazil’s “Evidências Do Amor,” which will be released theatrically this month by Warner Bros. and “Aztec Batman: Clash of Empires,” an original Warner Bros. Animation feature that places the DC superhero against the backdrop of Mexico’s history.

While Christmas tends to be the default setting for winter horror, 2008’s The Children makes a good argument for terror around the New Year. Many folks would expect leisure and fun after a busy Christmas. However, the chance for relaxation is out of the question in Tom Shankland’s movie. Something terrible has suddenly happened to the kids, and something even worse awaits their parents.
Spending New Year’s Eve with the ‘rents and their relatives is undesirable for most teenagers, but Casey (Hannah Tointon) will have definitely wished for more boring family time after her younger siblings and cousins turn on her and every other grownup nearby. No one past the age of puberty is safe here. As Casey and her closest kin gather at a remote house in the country — a decision that always proves to be as unwise as it is clichéd — The Children steadily reveals its unusual threat.

Fittingly for a series in which everybody seems to be engaging in some form of Classic Hollywood cosplay, the Rosebud moment in BritBox’s Archie is delivered by an actor playing comedy icon Danny Kaye.
Affecting a stereotypical German therapist accent — accents on top of accents on top of accents is the Archie way — Kaye cautions young Dyan Cannon (Laura Aikman) that her relationship with the more seasoned Cary Grant (Jason Isaacs) is destined for complications with the warning, “Men who have difficult relationships with their mothers always carry it over to the women that they love.”
There’s no reason for Kaye to make such an observation if he hasn’t been watching the two previous hours of Jeff Pope’s four-episode production. But for the series’ actual audience, his analysis will come across as both obvious and superficial — a bit like Archie itself.
Ultimately, it’s a bit more complicated than that.

There is something of In Bruges about this Belgium-set tale of whistleblowers in hiding, with a little bit of David Brent
Neil Maskell is the charismatic British actor known for his complex, seriocomic tough-guy performances in the movies of Ben Wheatley and Paul Andrew Williams; now he makes a worthwhile feature debut as writer-director in this diverting if slightly lightweight black-comic sketch about political paranoia, on which Wheatley has an executive producer credit.
Amit Shah and Sura Dohnke play Ewan and Silke, a married couple who are whistleblowers hiding out in Belgium, having revealed a government secret to a newspaper.

Kill List star Neil Maskell delivers an astounding performance in the 2021 low budget movie Bull, which has been a smash hit on streaming since Netflix acquired it. The bloody crime thriller, directed by Paul Andrew Williams, follows Maskell’s vicious enforcer as he returns to his old stomping ground ten years after some deadly and mysterious events have transpired between him and his fellow gang members.
The gang, headed up by Bull’s horrible father-in-law, Norm (David Hayman), are still kicking around – but not for long. Bull is determined to mete out vengeance upon those who he believes double-crossed him, but they can’t quite believe he’s even there, as they seem certain it’s impossible.

Yesterday, we shared the news that 28 Days Later director Danny Boyle and screenwriter Alex Garland say they have been having “serious talks” about finally making a sequel that would be called 28 Years Later… and in a new interview with Collider, 28 Days Later star Cillian Murphy has said that he’d gladly be in a sequel if it’s made by Boyle and Garland!
Murphy, who is currently doing the press rounds for Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer (where he plays the title character), had this to say about a 28 Days Later sequel: “I was talking to Danny Boyle recently, and I said, ‘Danny, we shot the movie at the end of 2000.’ So I think we’re definitely approaching the 28 Years Later. But like I’ve always said, I’m up for it. I’d love to do it. If Alex [Garland] thinks there’s a script in it and Danny wants to do it,...

Tom Shankland's kinderhorror meanie "The Children" isn't an actual reason to avoid childbirth. That's a joke. Doubly dreary around the holidays since a majority of Xmas traditions point towards making youngins happy.

All the Old Knives (Janus Metz Pedersen)
All the Old Knives wants you to sweat and swoon in equal measure. Playing in the same tried and true sandbox as some of the great espionage thrillers before it, director Janus Metz Pedersen’s adaptation of Olen Steinhaur’s 2015 novel traffics in all necessary trappings of its genre. Between the clandestine correspondence and popped peacoat collars against wet European streets, it’s certainly not shy about cinematic crushes. This infatuation is wholly appropriate, because––chilly demeanor notwithstanding––All the Old Knives is a burning romantic at heart. – Conor O. (full review)

"Bull" is a revenge movie with some awfully sharp teeth. Writer and director Paul Andrew Williams paints a bleak, unflinching picture of a dangerous man named Bull (Neil Maskell) who is on a warpath. The reasoning for why is explained methodically over the course of the movie with a unique mixture of both speed and patience. At under 90 minutes, there's not a wasted second in Bull's mysterious, blood-soaked journey.
It all pays off in an ending that, love or hate it, is nearly impossible not to have a reaction to. For Williams, he's not trying to be provocative, but if the ending gets a...

All the Rage: Williams Returns with a (Familiar) Vengeance
After a decade working in television, British director Paul Andrew Williams finally returns to narrative filmmaking with his fifth feature, Bull. Despite a title recently utilized elsewhere (such as Annie Silverstein’s 2019 debut starring Rob Morgan), it’s a nasty little slice of revenge cinema in keeping with themes from Williams’ early days as a filmmaker in the late 2000s.
A perversely violent performance from lead Neil Maskell elevates what initially seems like a gritty but by-the-numbers escapade in the vein of good ole’ Richard Stark, and Williams doesn’t decide to go full title bonkers until the denouement.…...

Revenge movies can come in two flavors: a balls-out, action-filled romp, or a low-key slow-burn with quick flashes of violence. Bull, from director Paul Andrew Williams, is closer to the latter, a British take on a formula that is miles removed from the expected Guy Ritchie school of 'London Underground' crime films, of which we've had a lot. Neil Maskell stars as the titular character, a tough, no-nonsense and tight-lipped badass who returns to his hometown after a 10-year absence to get bloody revenge on his father-in-law, and local kingpin, Noel (David Hayman). Armed with nothing more than a large knife, Bull carves a bloody path through assorted underlings and other bottom feeders, hoping for redemption from past misdeeds. It's a grim, downbeat ride, with...

"Someone is trying to get to me and my blood... and I'm not gonna allow it." Saban Films has unveiled a new US trailer for a British revenge thriller called Bull, from filmmaker Paul Andrew Williams. We featured the first UK trailer for this film last year, just before it played at the Fantasia Film Festival. Neil Maskell stars as "Bull," a former enforcer, mysteriously returns home after a ten year absence to seek revenge on those who double crossed him all those years ago. Described as "a brutal, subversive and wickedly suspenseful revenge thriller," with terrific performances from an electric Maskell and a terrifying David Hayman plus Tazmin Outhwaite. Yeah this looks like it's worth a watch if you're into gritty crime thrillers. That carnival ride shot at the end is still one of the best parts about this. The rest of it looks brutal as he takes on all these mobsters.

You don’t expect soft from Maskell and you don’t get it, in Paul Andrew Williams’s queasy criminal underworld
Paul Andrew Williams’s revenge nightmare is a stomach-turningly violent gangland shocker that returns this film-maker to territory he first staked out with his 2006 feature debut, the lowlife thriller London to Brighton. There are brilliant moments here, and Bull is arguably as good as, say, Shane Meadows’s much-admired Dead Man’s Shoes, in a similarly relentless vein. But I have to admit to finding the female characters less interesting than they were in London to Brighton – and opinions might divide about the ending here, which the movie both telegraphs in advance and yet also diverts your attention away from, with a shuffling of the timeline.

“Bull,” the newest effort from director Paul Andrew Williams (“Song For Marion”), fits into the niche category of revenge thriller far better than many other similar offerings. These films aren’t always the most rewatchable, as the heavy subject matter usually leans heavily into some intensely dark territory, with a recurring premise usually surrounding someone emerging from a horrific personal tragedy with a bloodthirsty vendetta against those who’ve done them wrong.
