Based on the story by Remmers and Mohr, the brilliant action film is set in a dystopian film where the Van Der Koy family rules the city. We follow the story of a young boy known only as Boy who is hell-bent on becoming a living breathing weapon to take revenge against the Van Der Koy family. Boy Kills World stars Bill Skarsgård in the lead role with Jessica Rothe, Andrew Koji, Famke Janssen, H. Jon Benjamin, Yayan Ruhian, Cameron Crovetti, Michelle Dockery, Brett Gelman, Quinn Copeland, and Sharlto Copley starring in supporting roles. Boy Kills World looked to be a cool action flick – and JoBlo’s own Chris Bumbray said it was in his 8/10 review, where he wrote, “I had a total blast with this demented actioner.” But even with producer Sam Raimi’s name on the film, it didn’t draw in much of an audience during its theatrical run. According to The Numbers, it only made $3 million worldwide. Now it’s heading to home video, where hopefully it will have more success. Boy Kills World is getting a digital release next week, on May 28th, and Amazon is already accepting pre-orders at This Link.

In an alternate universe, a young boy is raised by an off-the-grid shaman to become a lethal weapon trained to take down the family responsible for a totalitarian regime. When the boy (Bill Skarsgård) gets older, he takes it upon himself to go after the head of the family Hilda Van der Koy (Famke Janssen) — the woman responsible for killing his mother and sister when he was a child.
When you are a director who has no feature film credits to your name, the cinematic world is your oyster. Neither having to live up to a previously built reputation nor giving over to the commercial industry, anything is possible — and Moritz Mohr proves this is still true in Boy Kills World. Plot: A deaf and mute warrior (Bill Skarsgård) raised by a mysterious shaman (The Raid’s Yayan Ruhian) attempts to topple a repressive regime.
Review: Last year, Bill Skarsgård played a suave villain in Keanu Reeves’ John Wick: Chapter 4, but notably stayed out of the action scenes. Had the movie been released after Boy Kills World, I think the part would have been radically reimagined, with the actor putting himself through the kind of physical transformation that changes careers. Watching the hulking, 6’3 actor blast his way through opponents in Boy Kills World, it’s hard to believe that the same guy, just a few years ago, was best known as Pennywise the Clown. Indeed, Boy Kills World is the perfect launchpad for Bill Skarsgård to become a major action hero (it bodes well for his next film – the remake of The Crow).

In “Boy Kills World,” Bill Skarsgård has burning eyes and model cheekbones, sinewy arms popping out of a dirty red athletic vest, and a feral pout that makes him look like Jean-Claude Van Damme crossed with Lou Reed. He plays a deaf-mute avenger, known only as Boy, who kills people in insanely violent ways. Yet through it all, the character retains his innocence. He’s a wounded wild child in a man’s body.
Raised in a mountain hideaway by a martial-arts trainer and resistance fighter called the Shaman (Yayan Ruhian), who may remind you, at first, of the Zen master in “Kill Bill: Volume 2,” Boy had his past taken away from him by a vicious totalitarian regime. The month of April seemingly sailed by with far too many moderate releases, and the month ends this weekend with more of the same. Read on for Gold Derby’s box office preview.

Famke Janssen is not sure what Marvel has planned for the X-Men saga but doesn’t shut the door on the idea of reprising her role of Jean Grey / Phoenix.
Janssen originated the X-Men role in the 2000 film and would go on to play the mutant in 2003’s X2 and 2006’s X-Men: The Last Stand. The actress also made cameos in 2013’s The Wolverine and 2014’s X-Men: Days of Future Past.

You’ll almost immediately feel the vibes through the first two acts of Moritz Mohr’s Boy Kills World. Mohr’s film is a bloody, vicious kick to the solar plexus. The script drives its foot into the wound and then keeps applying pressure, almost as a way to test the audience’s resolve.
That’s where Boy Kills World may come to a crossroads for its viewership. Either you will embrace the sudden acute aggression, pressing the foot on the pedal, or you will border on torture porn violence. Or be so turned off by it to the point of completely giving up on Mohr’s film.
As for me, I’ll take Mohr’s blood-spattering dose of glorious, gory, comic carnage that would make Jackson Pollack jealous.

As if taking his older brother Alexander’s hulking, muscular presence in Robert Eggers’s The Northman as a personal challenge, Bill Skarsgård cuts an imposing figure in Moritz Mohr’s Boy Kills World. Every bit as jacked up as a professional wrestler, Skarsgård looks the part of a man hell-bent on revenge against Hilda Van Der Koy (Famke Janssen), the dictator who hosts an annual televised event in the film’s post-apocalyptic landscape known as The Culling, which claimed the lives of our hero’s family when he was a child.
Given his brawniness and the relentlessly brutal means with which he trains for his vendetta in the forest with the help of an Asian shaman (Yayan Ruhian), it’s more than a little dissonant that our deaf-mute protagonist, Boy, has his inner thoughts expressed in voiceover by H. Jon Benjamin, of Archer and Bob’s Burgers fame,...

Bill Skarsgard stars as the titular character in Roadside Attraction’s crazy red band trailer for Boy Kills World. The two-minute trailer serves up plenty of over-the-top action and set pieces, with Boy taking on dozens of enemies before finally coming face-to-face with his most formidable opponent.
The action comedy also stars Jessica Rothe, Michelle Dockery, Brett Gelman, Isaiah Mustafa, Yayan Ruhian, Andrew Koji, Sharlto Copley, and Famke Janssen. Bob’s Burgers‘ H. Jon Benjamin provides the inner voice of Skarsgard’s character.
“Skarsgård stars as ‘Boy’ who vows revenge after his family is murdered by Hilda Van Der Koy (Janssen), the deranged matriarch of a corrupt post-apocalyptic dynasty that left the boy orphaned, deaf and voiceless,” reads Roadside Attraction’s synopsis. “Driven by his inner voice, one which he co-opted from his favorite childhood video game, Boy trains with a mysterious shaman (Ruhian) to become an instrument of death...

The feature directorial debut of German filmmaker Moritz Mohr, adapting his own short film. Starring Bill Skarsgård as Boy, along with Jessica Rothe, Yayan Ruhian, Andrew Koji, Isaiah Mustafa, Famke Janssen, Brett Gelman, & Sharlto Copley. Plus H. Jon Benjamin as the voice in Boy's head.

Produced by the legendary Sam Raimi, the film marks the feature directorial debut of Moritz Mohr. It was scripted by Arend Remmers (Sløborn) and Tyler Burton Smith (Kung Fury: The Movie). Netflix’s Stranger Things is undoubtedly a pop-culture phenomenon and one of the most popular series that the streaming service released. Ever. A dash of 80s nostalgia combined with a great cast and superb writing, mixing fantasy, horror, sci-fi, and drama, Stranger Things is a series that will definitely go down in history due to the cultural impact it had, but also because it cemented Netflix as one of the major players in the industry.
Created by Matt and Ross Duffer, the series premiered on July 15, 2016, and it is currently preparing for its fifth and final season, which is scheduled to be released sometime in 2025. Signature Entertainment have nabbed the UK rights for Moritz Mohr’s Boy Kills World, which is in UK cinemas in April. More on the film below.
Bill Skarsgård has seemingly dedicated 2024 to roles that push him to be increasingly nutty with each passing film. The Pennywise actor is set to appear in both Boy Kills World, Nosferatu and The Crow this year, all of which look positively deranged.
When the first trailer for Boy Kills World punched its way online last month, we weren’t quite sure when the film would make its UK debut. The US was confirmed to get the film on their screens on the 26th April, but no one had the UK rights secured.

After being delayed several months by the writers strike and the actors strike, season 5 of the hit Netflix series Stranger Things finally went into production at the start of the year – and it’s going to continue making its way through production for quite a while longer, as new cast member Linda Hamilton has said that filming is going to take an entire year. So we’re not going to see this season, which is the final season of the show, until sometime in 2025… and star Millie Bobby Brown is looking forward to the premiere date with excitement, because she says the final episodes are going to be “unbelievable.”

Reggae artist Matisyahu has had the House of Blues in Chicago cancel his scheduled performance Friday because of the “threat of protests.”
Matisyahu said that House of Blues had canceled the show and paid the contractual penalty, which he promised to donate to an organization that advocates for the Israeli hostages held by Hamas in Gaza.
The Chicago date is the third cancellation for Matisyahu on his current U.S. tour. Previous dates in Santa Fe, New Mexico, and Tucson, Arizona were also pulled.
In Los Angeles, Jewish author Brett Gelman and TV personality Mayim Bialik also had events canceled or interrupted because of their outspoken support for Israel.
Matisyahu has been outspoken in his support for Israel, and has performed for troops there.
“While my fans and I are deeply hurt by this, please know we will not cower to these bullies and the pressure they exert,” said a statement from Matisyahu.

Book Soup has canceled a March 27 appearance by Stranger Things actor and author Brett Gelman.
The store claimed that escalating threats “became a safety risk we were not willing to take.” The store has hosted many controversial authors over the years and has rarely canceled, but said “the current charged environment” forced its hand.
Gelman has been outspoken in his support of Israel in the wake of Oct. 7, but claims the cancellations on his book tour were because of his emphasis on his “Jewish identity.”
Gelman’s book, The Terrifying Realm of the Possible: Nearly True Stories, is not overtly political and in the vein of Philip Roth’s Portnoy’s Complaint. The anthology weaves five interconnected short stories told through the perspective of five different Jewish characters. Gelman describes it as a “return to the literature that I loved and that I felt wasn’t being represented — dark Jewish humor.
