Amazon MGM Studios has released the final trailer for Challengers, starring Zendaya as Tashi Duncan, a former tennis prodigy turned coach and a force of nature who makes no apologies for her game on and off the court.
Married to a champion on a losing streak, Tashi’s strategy for her husband’s redemption takes a surprising turn when he must face off against the washed-up Patrick—his former best friend and Tashi’s former boyfriend.
As their pasts and present collide and tensions run high, Tashi must ask herself what it will cost to win. In addition to the trailer, you can also watch a featurette on the film’s music by Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross.
From visionary filmmaker Luca Guadagnino, Challengers is rated R for language throughout, some sexual content, and graphic nudity. The drama will open in theaters on Friday, April 26, 2024.
Guadagnino directed the movie from a script by Justin Kuritzkes.

Zendaya has, in just a small handful of years, asserted herself as a true A-list star in Hollywood. So much focus is paid to actors in their 40s (or much older) such as Tom Cruise, one of the many famous people named Chris, or Anne Hathaway. But Zendaya has emerged as one of our new movie stars, thanks to her work in wildly successful franchises such as "Dune" and "Spider-Man." But can her star power help turn "Challengers," an original sports drama centered around tennis, into a hit? That's the big question MGM is asking right now as the movie gets ready to make its way to theaters next weekend.
Hailing from "Call Me By Your Name" director Luca Guadagnino, "Challengers" is eyeing an opening between $7 and $12 million, per Box Office Pro. The only other big release on April 26 is Lionsgate's Christian drama "Unsung Hero." Yes, faith-based movies have...

Luca Guadagnino’s upcoming sports drama Challengers is seemingly going to be one of the hottest movies this spring, based on all the reports we have made about the movie so far. This sports drama is going to see Zendaya star in a love triangle with her current and former lover. Although tennis will seemingly be the main focus of the movie, the sexual tensions between the characters will be equally important, as it is common for all of Guadagnino’s movies.
The main actors have been talking about the movie as part of its promotion, and one of the most often discussed scenes was the threesome scene between Zendaya and her male co-stars. Josh O’Connor has already given us his impressions of the scene, as we have reported, and now, we have Zendaya’s thoughts on the scene and its execution, which we are going to reveal to you here.

Challengers Vs Dune 2: Zendaya Leads With Her Tennis Drama In One Aspect, Leaving Behind Her & Timothee Chalamet’s Blockbuster Film. (Photo Credit – IMDb)
Zendaya is one of the most talented actresses in Hollywood among the current generation, and she has impressed us with her performance in Dune 2. Now, as per the Challengers’ reviews, she is winning there, too. However, the actress is currently leading in one aspect, and she beat her colleague Timothee Chalamet. The tennis drama still has a few days before its theatrical release, and here’s why it is winning.
Italian filmmaker Luca Guadagnino has directed the sports drama starring Zendaya in the lead role. He is known for critically acclaimed films like I Am Love, Bigger Splash, and Call Me by Your Name. He has been nominated for both the Oscars and BAFTA Awards. The 2024 film features Josh O’Connor and Mike Faist in significant roles besides the Dune actress.

Based on the marketing, you might think “Challengers” is at its core, a tennis movie and, well, it sort of is. The film is certainly set in the world of tennis, you can’t deny that, and at one point, Zendaya’s character Tashi Duncan remarks, “We’re always talking about tennis.” The sport is at the center of her life. But despite everyone involved’s best efforts, the serves and volleys in this movie are nowhere near as important as the decade-long love triangle between Tashi and one-time BFFs, Patrick Zweig and Art Donaldson, played by Josh O’Connor and Mike Faist, respectively.

Zendaya has become one of the most interesting actresses of her generation and has already amassed an impressive filmography up to this point. From her early days as a Disney protege to starring in big movies in the MCU and Dune, she has also managed to diversify his work with character-driven drams like Euphoria, and Malcolm and Marie.

She is currently starring in the new romantic sports drama Challengers. People have been intrigued and interested in the film since the release of the trailer months ago mainly due to a steamy scene involving her, Josh O’Connor, and Mike Faist. However, Zendaya poked fun at people’s fantasies after they saw that scene and revealed how the film played with the audience’s expectations.

Zendaya is causing quite a racket — with racquets! — in Luca Guadagnino’s sexy tennis drama “Challengers.”
Chatter around the film’s steamy appeal started as soon as the first teaser dropped, which showed stars Zendaya, Mike Faist, and Josh O’Connor engaging in what looked like the prelude to a threesome. We’ve since learned after seeing the movie that this ménage à trois isn’t exactly the fantasy some audiences have in mind.
At the Los Angeles premiere, the trio served their own takes to IndieWire on what kind of story this film wants to tell about sexuality and the fickle game of love. Zendaya, who plays tennis prodigy Tashi Donaldson, explained further: “What’s really special about this movie is that it is incredibly sexy, but there surprisingly [are] no sex scenes,” she said. “I’ve been asked a lot about sex scenes from people who have seen the movie,...

Challengers is releasing to theaters and we’re celebrating with a giveaway!
Zendaya sizzles in the steamy new film from acclaimed director Luca Guadagnino. Guadagnino — who brought us Call Me By Your Name, Bones and All, Suspiria (2018) and A Bigger Splash — combines the world of competitive tennis with the steamy messiness of a love triangle. It’s a fast paced and flashy film that marks Zendaya’s second major theatrical release of the year, following Dune: Part Two. Joining the Spider-Man: No Way Home star are Josh O’Connor (The Crown) and Mike Faist (West Side Story) as former friends now competing for the affection of the alluring Tashi.
I had the pleasure of catching an advanced screening at the beginning of the month and I had an absolute blast with this one-of-a-king film. You can check out my full review below. Originally scheduled to be released in September of 2023 before...

Luca Guadagnino's new film "Challengers" is set in 2019 during a pivotal tennis match between tennis pro Art Donaldson (Mike Faist) and the struggling also-ran Patrick Zweig (Josh O'Connor). Watching from the stands is Donaldson's wife, the former teen tennis prodigy Tashi Duncan (Zendaya). Tashi looks incredibly concerned, and the two players seem to hate each other. The film then begins a series of flashbacks, stretching back 13 years to when the characters were all teenagers. It seems that Art, Patrick, and Tashi once had a three-way makeout session in a motel room that cemented their physical and emotional attraction for years. Tashi briefly dated Josh, while Art, retaining a crush, attempted to sabotage their relationship. Art and Tashi would begin a romance after she sustains an injury, with Tashi becoming Art's coach. Resentment bubbles apace.
It's all very soapy, of course, but Guadagnino tempers the melodrama with excellent attention to detail,...

Amazon MGM Studios’ latest featurette for Challengers features the film’s stars – Zendaya (Dune Parts 1 and 2), Mike Faist (West Side Story), and Josh O’Connor (The Crown) – discussing the R-rated drama. Zendaya, the center of a love triangle in the mesmerizing sports drama, says the film’s a rollercoaster of emotions that challenges the audience.
Oscar nominated director Luca Guadagnino describes the film as a “passionate love story where the rules of the game of tennis become the rules of the game of seduction.” And Zendaya considers tennis to be just the outlet for the characters to express their chaos.

Anyone who’s ever played tennis knows the game starts with love and escalates fast. In Luca Guadagnino’s hip, sexy and ridiculously overheated “Challengers,” the rivals are former doubles partners Art Donaldson (Mike Faist) and Patrick Zweig (Josh O’Connor), best friends since the age of 12, who went their separate ways after both players fell for the same woman. Patrick got there first, but Art wound up marrying her — and their sense of competition has only intensified since.

Luca Guadagnino’s Challengers opens in an intentionally disorienting manner: We are in New Rochelle, New York for a tennis challenger. Wearing cheap shorts that resemble boxers, Patrick Zweig (Josh O’Connor) battles Art Donaldson (Mike Faist), clad in head-to-toe Uniqlo, while the glamorous Tashi Donaldson (Zendaya) watches tensely from the stands. Flashbacks, first from a few days prior, and then way back to 13 years ago, slowly fill in the gaps on how these two former best friends ended up in such a position: playing against one another in a mid-tier tennis challenger comically sponsored by a tire brand.
Even as Challengers zips back and forth in time with boundless energy, the narrative, to Guadagnino and screenwriter Justin Kuritzkes’ credit, is never hard to follow. Sometimes the foreknowledge afforded by time jumps end up sacrificing drama, but in Challengers this sacrifice makes space for us to feel the burden of these broken relationships.

One needn't do a very deep internet search to find news outlets doing some adolescent tittering about the threesome scene in Luca Guadagnino's new love-triangle sports drama "Challengers." I am disappointed to report that the scene in question is not a threesome, but a brief three-way make-out session that lasts maybe 90 seconds. It's no more salacious than one might see at the average screening of "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Anyone who has watched "Y tu Mamá También" or "The Dreamers" has already enjoyed more sexual intensity.
The brief makeout, however, more or less cements long-standing romantic and sexual chemistry for the three involved. "Challengers" is about struggling through your 20s, using the echoes of your adolescence to form lasting bonds that, with enough time, ferment into resentment. Each of the male leads will, at some point, say a version of the line "He's not really in love with you,...

“Are we talking about tennis?” asks Patrick Zweig (Josh O’Connor) in a mid-aughts flashback as chugging, four-on-the-floor beats kick in to accompany an argument between him and his sure-to-turn-pro girlfriend, Tashi Duncan (Zendaya). It’s one of several instances in director Luca Guadagnino’s sexy, swaggering sports drama Challengers where the characters make subtext into text. “We’re always talking about tennis,” she responds, but in Justin Kuritzkes’s screenplay, tennis isn’t just tennis—it’s sex, it’s power, it’s self-determination, or, as Tashi herself puts it at one point, “it’s a relationship.” What do we talk about when we talk about tennis? In Challengers at least, it’s absolutely everything else.
Challengers frames its drama against a 2019 Atp event where the sport’s biggest star, 33-year-old Art Donaldson (Mike Faist), is competing to regain some confidence after a professional rough patch on his way to a Grand Slam.

In Challengers, Luca Guadagnino serves up a film that is as much about the volleys of human emotion as it is about the physical rallies on the tennis court.
Starring Zendaya, Josh O’Connor and Mike Faist and penned by Justin Kuritzkes, the film explores the complexities of love, friendship and competition through the lens of a sport that mirrors the finesse and intensity required in personal relationships as the narrative unfolds in a series of flashbacks that show us the origins of these relationships during their high school years and how a love triangle disrupts their friendship.
Set against the backdrop of professional tennis, Challengers opens on a match between Patrick Zweig (O’Connor) and Art Donaldson (Faist), watched intensely by Tashi Duncan (Zendaya) from the stands. The tension is palpable, hinting at a shared history that the film soon unpacks, tracing back to the trio’s younger years. The...

If, as Blanche Dubois once said, “The opposite of death is desire,” then Luca Guadagnino will live forever, and his latest film — a transcendently sweaty tennis love triangle so turned on by the heat of competition that its sex scenes feel like foreplay and its rallies feel like porn — is possibly the most unbridled portrait of resurrection since “The Passion of the Christ.”
It’s definitely the horniest story ever set within the purgatorial concrete nothing of New Rochelle, NY, which is where this movie’s three main characters all happen to cross paths during the final match of a dingy U.S. Open qualifier that’s being sponsored by a local tire store. They’ve been fucking each other on and off the court for more than a decade by the time “Challengers” unleashes its first serve, and yet, despite winning on every level of their chosen sport, these...

Tennis is notoriously not a sport that lends itself well to the medium of film. The tension in this game is all about the silent moments between points, and continuously hitting a small ball with a racquet doesn’t make for exciting entertainment.

In Luca Guadagnino’s latest cinematic endeavor, “Challengers,” Zendaya, Josh O’Connor, and Mike Faist form a dynamic, throuple-esque trio, each delivering performances that scream Oscar-worthy. The real question is, will Academy voters look beyond the palpable sexual chemistry to acknowledge the film’s artistic merit? That’s a challenge for the marketing maestros.
Penned by newcomer Justin Kuritzkes, the spouse of “Past Lives” writer-director Celine Song, “Challengers” weaves through a 13-year narrative, chronicling the life of Tashi Duncan (Zendaya), a tennis wunderkind-turned-coach, who hatches a plan for her husband Art’s (Faist) comeback. The plan pits him against his ex-buddy and Tashi’s former flame, Patrick (O’Connor), setting the stage for a dramatic unraveling.

Zendaya knew she’d met her match with tennis romantic drama “Challengers,” the Luca Guadagnino film that ushers in Zendaya’s adult film stardom.
The 27-year-old actress, whose Emmy-winning turn in “Euphoria” and the two Tom Holland-led “Spider-Man” films all take place in high school, told Vogue that playing the character of 30-year-old mother Tashi for “Challengers” was a “refreshing” casting change and, well, a challenge.
“I’m always in a high school somewhere. And, mind you, I never went to high school,” Zendaya said.
The former Disney Channel child star added that “Challengers” was “kind of scary, because I was like, ‘I hope people buy me as my own age, or maybe a little bit older, because I have friends that have kids, or are having kids.'”

Hollywood casting can be a fickle thing. But for actresses who’ve graced the silver screen as Spider-Man’s love interest, there seems to be a recurring theme – a hidden talent for tennis!
A still from Spider-Man
Believe it or not, all three actresses—Kirsten Dunst, Emma Stone, and Zendaya—who have portrayed Spider-Man’s love interest on the big screen share a surprising connection to the world of tennis.
It’s not merely a coincidence; each of them has actually portrayed a tennis player in different movies, following their roles in Spider-Man flicks.

The first connection in this web of coincidence takes us back to 2004’s romantic comedy Wimbledon. Kirsten Dunst, who famously portrayed Mary Jane Watson in Sam Raimi‘s Spider-Man trilogy, took on the role of Lizzie Bradbury, a determined young tennis player on the verge of success.

"I loved making this film. It's a rollercoaster... and you feel that." MGM Studios has revealed a featurette for Challengers, the latest film from filmmaker Luca Guadagnino. It's finally landing in theaters this month! Following a long delay from last year. After a losing streak, the wife and coach of a Grand Slam champion signs him up for a Challenger event where he will face off against her former lover – and his former competitor. The full cast includes Zendaya, Josh O'Connor, and Mike Faist as the trio caught up in this lovers' quarrel, plus A.J. Lister and Jake Jensen. The two official trailers for this have been mostly good, this featurette adds a bit more context to Tashi, Zendaya's character, though there isn't much footage as it's less than 60 seconds long. We'll add more featurettes below for Challengers as they're unveiled. Looking forward to finally seeing this in a few weeks.

After his first success “Lunana: A Yak in the Classroom,” Oscar nominee Pawo Choyning Dorji's second feature-length fiction film is a likable, if not overwhelming, comedy. While his directorial debut was nominated for Best International Feature Film at the 2021 Academy Awards, the first Bhutanese movie to be so recognized, Dorji's second production is also making its way around the world, including being nominated for the next Academy Awards in the Best Foreign Film category.

Zendaya is opening up about her “first time really being a leading lady” in Luca Guadagnino’s Challengers, as well as how major roles in films like the Spider-Man franchise have catapulted her to a new level of recognition.

Josh O’Connor revealed that it was a challenge to speak with Zendaya once Beyoncé dropped new music.
The “Crown” alum told V Man in a joint interview with the “Euphoria” actress that while filming “Challengers,” Zendaya listened to Beyoncé’s latest music non-stop.
“There was a day when we were shooting, and Beyoncé’s new track was coming out – and I’m not saying that Beyoncé is like your equivalent of my ceramics, but no one could talk to Z,” O’Connor said. “Like we didn’t engage that entire day, you were just listening to that song every second.”
Zendaya replied, “You know what it was? It was our last day in Boston. And I was like, ‘What are the odds?’ She gave us a good song to give us our farewell.”
