He was part of the student movement and militant of Vanguarda Popular Revolucionária (VPR) during the military regime in the late 1960's and early 1970's where he and other students defied the government. After his arrest, he expressed regret over his actions (considered as terrorism by the regime) and became famous as a regretful terrorist appearing on campaigns supporting the regime.
