Famous for his performances in the thrillers Argo (2012) and Gone Girl (2014) and the dramas Pearl Harbor (2001) and The Last Duel (2021), Ben Affleck is not really known as a comedy actor. Even the viral pictures of him frustratingly looking nowhere present him as “sad”, building a strong, though unfair association with Affleck’s acting range.
However, back in 1997, the actor starred in a romantic dramedy, which can now seem ground-breaking, as here Affleck is obviously sad due to his unrequited love, just like in the memes, but, nevertheless, delivers quite a rare, convincing comedy performance.
The movie revolves around Holden and Banky, who are thick as thieves and are the two authors of a popular comic book. Their life-long friendship is strained by Holden’s growing feelings for Alyssa, whom they meet while promoting their new work.

Brian Teta, the executive producer of The View, has signed a new contract for the show that will keep him at the often buzzy daytime talker for the next four years.
The show has been up 3% in total viewers season to date, and has continued to top daytime talk shows and news programs in viewership and households. There are signs of an election-year influence in the uptick: The day after the Iowa caucuses, when ABC News chief Washington correspondent Jon Karl guested, the show’s 2.85 million viewers was its most watched telecast in nearly two years.
“Every time there’s a big moment in the news cycle, whether it’s the State of the Union, or a Republican debate or anything like that, I see a spike the next morning, even in pop culture world where it’s something like the Oscars,” Teta said. “People are tuning in to see...

Sunny has even admitted to using the weight loss drug Mounjaro to lose weight after an astonishing 40-pound weight gain during the coronavirus pandemic.
The popular talk show host always takes excellent care with her clothing and hair, so fans do not often question one of her decisions.
During a recent segment about dating and why Gen Z generation prefers digital first dates, Sunny’s outfit seemed more appropriate for bedtime than a live television show.
Fans started questioning what she was wearing, asking if they were pajamas.

After quickly gaining more than half a million followers by sharing glimpses into her life as a “plain” woman — a term used to describe sects such as the Amish or Mennonites — TikTok influencer Sarah Joy Nelson abruptly left the platform last week, signing off with an ambiguous apology. Her disappearance first prompted concern from fans, who assumed the account, @thatplaingirl, had been discovered by Nelson’s insular religious community, and that Nelson may be in danger. Yet those fears soon gave way to suspicions that she never belonged to any such denomination at all,...

The saga of what really happened on the set of Charmed has another new chapter. Buckle up, it’s a lot of back and forth.
Shannen Doherty, Rose McGowan and Holly Marie Combs sat side by side on the main stage at MegaCon Orlando on Sunday. As the panel came to a close, Doherty pulled out a cellphone to read a statement. At one point, the actress fought back tears as she responded to claims made two days earlier at the same convention by fellow Charmed star Alyssa Milano, who blasted Doherty and Combs for crafting “revisionist history” in blaming Milano for Doherty’s firing at the end of season three in 2001.
“A lot of things have been said, and a lot of them very hurtful,” Doherty said in reference to her hard-to-follow saga with Milano. During an episode of Doherty’s Let’s Be Clear podcast in December, she...

This week, the morning talk show circuit saw a good bit of violence when Larry David hit Elmo, the muppet, live on The Today Show.
It started with a viral tweet where the muppet asked how everyone was doing. Then, during a segment on The Today Show with Elmo and Larry David crossing paths, Larry David acted outrageously.
Live on The Today Show, Larry did a bit where he accosted Elmo, and people got mad. Larry was made to apologize for the actions.
It isn’t known if this skit was planned or just something impromptu that Larry did to gain attention for his show, Curb Your Enthusiasm.
It gained enough attention that the ladies on The View covered the heated topic. This even caused division amongst the ladies as Joy Behar defended Larry David.

Detective Jay Halstead was a fan-favorite for years on Chicago P.D.
Actor Jesse Lee Soffer played the role, which began on a Chicago Fire episode.
But early in Chicago P.D. Season 10, Halstead appeared for the last time on an Intelligence case.
Fans are still frustrated with how the writers and showrunner dealt with Halstead’s exit. It has had a lasting impact on the show.
Tracy Spiridakos (she plays Detective Hailey Upton) is also leaving the show. She will appear in her final episode this spring.
Due to Jesse’s exit and the pending exit for Tracy, the writers had to speed up storylines involving their characters.

The ladies of The View are weighing in on the Madonna debate.
Earlier this week, the 65-year-old pop icon was sued by two New York City men for beginning one of her Celebration Tour shows two hours late.
Following the news, the co-hosts got into a debate about the situation, calling Madonna‘s behavior “disrespectful.”

“I personally wouldn’t wait two hours to get a hot oil massage from George Clooney, much less a concert by anybody,” Joy Behar said.
Sunny Hostin then weighed in saying she’s “not bothered” by Madonna‘s tardiness.

On the latest episode of her podcast Let’s Be Clear, Shannen Doherty sat down with former Charmed co-star Holly Marie Combs and revealed that she didn’t leave the show of her own volition, but rather claims that she was fired after Alyssa Milano threatened production with a lawsuit if the actor wasn’t kicked off the series.
“The narrative that I ‘quit’ was assigned to me by other people,” Doherty said. “I didn’t assign it to myself. I think I’m at that point in my life where I don’t want to keep lying about it, and I don’t want to keep lying about something that meant the absolute world to me, something that I loved doing. Shannen Doherty and Hollie Marie Combs revealed on the “Let’s Be Clear” podcast (via Huff Post) that Doherty was fired from “Charmed” due to an alleged ultimatum their co-star Alyssa Milano gave producers. A feud among the actors reportedly led to Milano telling “Charmed” producers they had to fire one of them, and if it was her she would threaten to sue them for a hostile work environment.
According to Combs, it was Milano who strong-armed the producers into firing Doherty after three seasons. While Doherty has often said she chose to leave “Charmed” on her own volition, it appears that was just a cover-up planned by her team at the time since she had already been forced off “Beverly Hills 90210.”
“One can’t keep telling the same story over and over and over again, when it’s not the truth,” Doherty said.

Shannen Doherty is setting the record straight about her infamous firing (yes, she was fired) from The WB’s Charmed. The Dec. 18 episode of Doherty’s Let’s Be Clear podcast features the second half of her interview with sister witch Holly Marie Combs, during which they recall the “her or me” situation with Alyssa Milano that ultimately led to Doherty’s untimely exit in 2001.
“I just want to make sure everyone knows that there’s zero hate here,” Doherty begins. “The past is definitely done and over with, and it’s not even like we really talk about this at all.

There were many questions when Shannen Doherty was written out of Charmed following its third season in 2001.
Now, over 22 years later, details are beginning to trickle out about what happened behind the scenes of the supernatural WB drama.
In the latest episode of Doherty's Let's Be Clear podcast, Holly Marie Combs revealed their costar Alyssa Milano got Doherty fired.
Why Was Shannen Doherty Fired From Charmed?
"He said, 'We didn't mean to -- but we've been backed into this corner -- we're basically in this position where it's one or the other,'" she dished.
"'We were told [by Alyssa] it's her or [Shannen] and Alyssa has threatened to sue us for a hostile workplace environment.'"
Combs was taken aback by the drama because she didn't feel anything that happened with the ladies could be characterized as a "hostile workplace environment."

Appearing on the latest episode of Doherty’s Let’s Be Clear podcast, Combs opened up about what she remembered of her co-star’s departure at the end of the third season. The wellspring of creativity resides within the human mind. Amid the monotony of daily routines in a static world, people find solace in creativity and imagination. Within the confines of a mundane office setting, we all yearn for a room of our own, where the regular cacophony fades, and we can function attentively to bring out the best of our work. In this place, the hidden brilliance of an individual that gets lost in the crowd could thrive once again.
Drawing inspiration from Jonas Karlsson’s novel The Room, Joachim Back’s inaugural feature, Corner Office, explores a similar notion. It envisions a haven where reality’s limits disappear, letting people express themselves and their creativity. Unfortunately, only a few can create such a haven. Like the film’s main character, Orson (played by John Hamm), a typical office worker who excels only in his personal inner chamber at work...

[This story contains spoilers for Haunted Mansion.]
Haunted Mansion director Justin Simien wanted to make a Disney movie that wasn’t afraid to challenge younger audiences in the same way that the Disney classics of his youth did. From Bambi’s Mother’s death in Bambi (1942) to Scar murdering Mufasa in The Lion King (1994), Disney has never shied away from heavier subject matters and themes, but in the case of the Haunted Mansion, there was one line that Simien just could not cross.
The lead of Simien’s film is Lakeith Stanfield’s Ben, a former astrophysicist turned paranormal tour guide in New Orleans. Ben’s life hasn’t been the same since his wife, Alyssa (Charity Jordan), died in a car accident, and so the character was originally slated for a rather devastating ending, as opposed to the more upbeat version that’s in theaters now.

And the Summer of product adaptations and remakes continues! Last weekend Barbie just about blew the doors off the box office and the multiplex in a virtual tsunami of pink perfection. Hey, if a toy can revive the ticket sale doldrums, why not a flick based on a ride from the Disney theme parks? After all, those Caribbean Pirates spurred quite a profitable “tentpole” for the studio. But then there were costly flops like Tomorrowland and who remembers The Country Bears (maybe they just needed that “nose candy”). Well, this concept was exploited nearly twenty years ago, so this is also, technically, a remake (without any of the main human characters from the first time). Perhaps the modest success of the other remake a few months ago, The Little Mermaid, is lifting the “ahem” spirits of the mouse house. So, even though Halloween is months away, are filmgoers in the...

In 2003, audiences watched Eddie Murphy drop into “Haunted Mansion” in Rob Minkoff’s poorly received riff on Disney’s famous ride. Now 20 years later, Justin Simien, director of “Dear White People” and a former Disneyland ride operator, is trying his hand at putting the “grim, grinning ghosts” of the popular theme park attraction on the big screen — and the results are impressive.
Simien’s “Haunted Mansion” is a wondrous blend of horror and comedy, tinged with emotional resonance in its story of grief and how we try to connect with those we’ve lost. Anchored by a phenomenal performance by Lakeith Stanfield (“Atlanta”) and a solid ensemble, “Haunted Mansion” is a worthy take on the ride and a sleeper hit for families looking to find a fun summer film.

Justin Simien’s Haunted Mansion, with the bright purple and radiant turquoise vapor trails of whatever smoke machine was used during production, handily invokes the campiness of the iconic Disneyland attraction, if not its kinetics. But while several set pieces move along with surprising alacrity and humor, Katie Dippold’s script drowns in exposition and lore-building, at times drawing distracting comparison to her work on the 2016 Ghostbusters reboot.
In New Orleans, Ben (Lakeith Stanfield) is drunkenly leading ghost tours in the wake of his invention of an astral spectrometer, which derailed his career as an astrophysicist. Ben is also struggling to accept the sudden death of his wife, Alyssa (Charity Jordan), and has sworn off paranormal investigating. But soon he’s roped back in, at the behest of Father Kent (Owen Wilson), after a single mother, Gabbie (Rosario Dawson), and her son, Travis (Chase W. Dillon), move into a mansion...

The Haunted Mansion is a dark ride attraction located at Disneyland, Magic Kingdom, and Tokyo Disneyland. The ride is set in a large, creaky mansion that is rumored to be haunted by the ghosts of its former residents. Riders are led through a series of rooms, each of which is decorated with creepy props and features a different ghostly encounter. Some of the most famous scenes in the ride include the Ballroom, where a group of ghosts are dancing, the Conservatory, where a casket floats in mid-air, and Madame Leota’s Séance Room, where a disembodied head floats in a crystal ball. Someone at Disney decided this was enough substance to turn this into a feature film. Not sure why.

Southampton, July 17 (Ians) On retaining the Women’s Ashes after a three-run win over England in the second Odi at the Ageas Bowl, Australia captain Alyssa Healy commended her team’s pride and conviction in themselves of winning the key moments in the match.
Australia’s thrilling victory at Southampton sees them lead 8-6 on points and retain Women’s Ashes despite losing their last three white-ball games in the series and Nat Sciver-Brunt hitting an unbeaten 111 in the second Odi. But Australia’s ploy of playing four spinners meant they were able to restrict England to 279 in a chase of 283.
“We pride ourselves to win key moments. We came here to win the Ashes and we’ve retained them, it’s exciting and huge congratulations to the group for getting it done. Nat Sciver-Brunt played a pretty incredible innings. I thought she was going to take it away from us in the end.

Former President Donald Trump offered up his usual barrage of unfounded claims and falsehoods during his interview with Fox News’ Bret Baier Monday night, but the co-hosts of ABC’s The View want to set the record straight about one in particular.

There’s probably a clever German word invented to describe the increasingly common and frustrating act of spending an entire evening indecisively flicking through Netflix arguing about what to watch before just giving up and going to bed. The streaming giant has over 7,000 titles on its UK version alone, so you can be forgiven for feeling a bit overwhelmed by it all, and its recent tendency to cancel beloved Netflix Originals – some would say too soon – can leave you wondering where best to commit your time.

“Do you understand why I love this movie so much?” asks Sav Rodgers, the director whose adoration of Kevin Smith’s 1997 rom-com Chasing Amy has led them on a pilgrimage to parts of New Jersey so ungentrified that, 25 years later, they’re — seriously — almost all still there. “No,” says Shana Lory. Which is a bit of a shock, given that she was the casting director.

For the second day in a week, The View is making headlines over their heated debates on the ABC talk show as the presidential elections inch closer.
Alyssa Farah Griffin and Sunny Hostin sparred during the “Hot Topics” segment that led Whoopi Goldberg to cut to a commercial break to ease the tension.
It all started when the co-hosts were talking about the Republican primaries and the candidates running for president including Chris Christie and Mike Pence, Griffin’s former boss when he was Vice President of the U.S. under the Trump administration.
At one moment during the debate, Griffin mentioned that she wasn’t sure who she would be voting for and wanted to hear more about Pence. Later on, Hostin would bring up this point saying, “What scares me, Alyssa, is that you are incapable of defending a man that you worked for, that you know of.
