Whilst filming the Japanese mockumentary Fugu & Tako, director Ben West had no idea what the actors were saying. He doesn't understand Japanese. Ben initially relied on the actors interpretation but eventually understood the key to directing was watching the performance rather than listening to the words. The actors eyes and body language were the markers that truly indicated the emotional transitions in the scene.
