Every week, IndieWire asks a select handful of TV critics two questions and publishes the results on Tuesday.
This week’s question: What’s the best new overlooked show of 2018 so far?
Daniel Fienberg (@TheFienPrint), The Hollywood Reporter
The best new overlooked show of 2018 so far is probably a show that I’m overlooking, so any answer I would give to you is probably wrong by virtue of my acknowledging it. That being said, the answer has probably been the same since the first week of 2018 when it premiered and that’s Netflix’s “The End of the F***ing World,” a romantic comedy cut with arsenic and featuring what ought to be star-making performances from Alex Lawther and Jessica Barden as a couple of British teens who find love on a road trip, except that he’s a budding serial killer planning to murder her and she’s dealing...

Shadowlocked apologises for the delays in John B's output on Buffy, Angel and Doctor Who. As ever, the efficient Mr Bensalhia is miles ahead of deadline, but circumstances beyond our control have delayed the return of Buffy and Angel reviews (imminent) - and also this, the first of John's closing reviews for season 8.
In Doctor Who's philosophy corner, you can dig up some choice wise words even in the most derided of stories. Take The Horns Of Nimon. On the face of it, a panto caper with an eye-rolling beardy fruitcake and men in bull masks. If you delve deep enough though, then there's many a lesson to be learned. Don't be gullible for the sake of greed like Soldeed. Don't lie like the blustering co-pilot if you want to avoid the humiliation of ripped trousers. And like The Doctor learns the hard way, never ever say “What could...

London, and indeed the whole world, ha been engulfed by dense, fireproof forests overnight. The Doctor assumes it’s an act of aggression, but with the help of the kids of Coal Hill School, including one very sensitive girl, the real threat to Earth is identified. But are they too late to realize they’ve been attacking the wrong side?
This is another episode where the main plot and the threat of the week is almost overwhelmed by the staggering character work. Wonderful camera work from the director (the steadi-cam run around the top deck of the...

London, August 27: 'Gardeners' World' presenter Monty Don has revealed that when he was dating his wife, then girlfriend, he wooed her by trimming her lawn, with a pair of kitchen scissors.
The BBC anchor said that he had to spent hours cutting the grass because he couldn't find the key to the shed that had the lawnmower, the Mirror reported.
Don asserted that his wife has always believed that he was a romantic fool for doing what he did.
Don added that the couple were only 25 then, but they bought a house with the biggest garden they could afford. (Ani)...

Life and work of Iain Banks to be honoured at 30th festival, with Salman Rushdie, Margaret Atwood and Neil Gaiman also featuring in two-week event partnered by the Guardian
The life and works of the late Iain Banks will be celebrated by close friends including Ian Rankin and Val McDermid in a special event at this August's Edinburgh international book festival, for which the Guardian is media partner.
"Scotland and the world were rocked by his death last weekend," said Nick Barley, the festival director. "We'd been planning a celebration anyway as we're marking our 30th birthday, and his first novel, The Wasp Factory, was out in 1984. I spoke to him many times about what he'd like to do. He wanted to be there – sadly he can't be."
Instead, the event on the festival's closing Sunday will see Scottish authors including Rankin, McDermid and Ken MacLeod looking back over Banks's 29-year career.

Love Your Garden | Channel 4's Comedy Gala | The Santana Story | Paul Merton's Birth Of Hollywood | Isle Of Wight Festival 2011 | In Treatment
Love Your Garden
8pm, ITV1
It's easy to forget that before Ilkley's favourite son was a daytime chatshow colossus and racy novelist, Alan Titchmarsh was a humble, green-fingered horticulturist. In Love Your Garden, he's going back to his roots (ahem), going up against Monty Don on BBC2's Gardener's World, the show Titchmarsh himself used to front. There could yet be blood on the potting shed floor. This series is aiming itself not at coverage of the unobtainable country estate gardens, but something a little more achievable, celebrating the classic suburban garden. Ben Arnold
Channel 4's Comedy Gala
9pm, Channel 4
The return of the standup show in aid of Great Ormond Street Hospital, something you may need to bear in mind as you resentfully endure the comedy stylings of Chris Moyles.
