“Lessons in Chemistry” star Aja Naomi King still finds hope in the devastating end to her character Harriet’s arc in the Apple TV+ drama series.
Based on real historical events, the show’s finale finds politicians passing the act that enabled the Santa Monica freeway construction that destroyed the Sugar Hill neighborhood in which Harriet and Elizabeth Zott (Brie Larson) live. When Calvin Evans (Lewis Pullman) first started at Hastings Lab before Elizabeth entered the picture and moved in with him, he forged a bond with Harriet and her husband Charlie (Paul James). Even before she grew closer to Elizabeth in the wake of Calvin’s death, Harriet advocated for the dismissal of building a freeway through her and Calvin’s neighborhood, which would render them homeless.

Showtime has made a decision on its last remaining current scripted series whose fate had been up in the air, opting not to pick up a second season of comedy I Love That for You. The news comes a year after the Season 1 run of the show starring Vanessa Bayer, who co-created it with Jeremy Beiler. The two serve as executive producers alongside showrunner Jessi Klein and Michael Showalter.
“I Love That for You has completed its run on Showtime,” a spokesperson for the network said in a statement. “We want to thank Vanessa, Jeremy and Jessi, along with the incredible cast and crew for their hard work and wish them the best going forward.”
As Deadline reported, there had been an internal effort to get the well-received series renewed. I Love That for You co-star Matt Rogers claimed in December that a second season of the show already had been written.

When Paul James opened Uncle Paulie’s Deli in L.A. almost six years ago, he never imagined one day he’d be getting his own sandwich shop in a Las Vegas casino.
Certainly the idea of opening up in southwest Las Vegas — at least 15 minutes from the Strip — didn’t cross his mind. But now thanks to the innovative new food hall, Eat Your Heart Out, to debut at Durango Resort this fall, several West Coast fast-casual favorites with cachet are now living the desert dream.
“When the opportunity came to meet with Station Casinos, they told me about [their new] neighborhood casino. It was a perfect fit,” says James, adding that one of Uncle Paulie’s business philosophies is, “We’re from the neighborhood, for the neighborhood.”
Paulie’s motto is one that his new landlord can really get behind. Durango is the latest project from Station Casinos (Red Rock Resort and Green Valley Ranch,...

Photo: ‘I Love That for You’ As we saw for seven years on SNL, Vanessa Bayer is funny. Her Jacob the Bar-Mitzvah boy, her Totino’s wife, and her Miley Cyrus impersonation are all characters that were charming and well-balanced. Unfortunately, the same laughs I had during her spot on Saturdays have not traveled over to her new show ‘I Love That for You’. The Premise ‘I Love That for You’ follows the story of childhood leukemia survivor Joanna Gold (Bayer) as she finally gets her dream job at the fictional home shopping channel Svn. When she gets fired on her first day, in a desperate plea to stay, she lies and tells her boss and coworkers her cancer is back. As she befriends her Svn idol Jackie Silton (Molly Shannon), is exploited for her illness by her boss Patricia Cochran (Jenifer Lewis), and begins a romance with showrunner Jordan Wahl...

Showtime comedy “I Love That for You” traces a straight line back to “Saturday Night Live.” Not only did former “SNL” star Vanessa Bayer create the show with former “SNL” writer Jeremy Beiler, and Bayer’s co-star is “SNL” veteran Molly Shannon, but the relationship between the actresses’ characters also looks a lot like… Shannon and Bayer’s, back when they were on “SNL.”
They didn’t overlap on the show, but it remained a shared experience. The actresses grew up 10 minutes away from each other in Cleveland suburbs and brought their Midwestern sensibilities to the venerable comedy show.
“Like when Vanessa’s character is getting a makeover, I relate to her character because that’s how I felt when I started on ‘Saturday Night Live,” Shannon said at the show’s premiere and FYC event at the Pacific Design Center in Los Angeles Wednesday night. “You’re kind of green,...

Joanna Gold (Vanessa Bayer) lands her dream job of being a shopping channel host like her idol Jackie (Molly Shannon), but has to resort to a big lie — she has cancer! — to avoid being fired in the official trailer for “I Love That For You,” which Showtime released on Wednesday.

Don Johnson returned as Nash Bridges this Saturday night, with Cheech Marin’s Joe Dominguez again riding shotgun. Did the reunion movie for USA Network prove worthy of a full-on series revival?

It’s been more than three years since Freeform scrapped its plans for Greek: The Reunion, and star Jake McDorman (aka Evan Chambers) is still in the dark about why the network opted not to pledge the two-hour holiday movie, which would have found the gang returning to Cypress-Rhodes University for their five-year reunion.

Netflix’s new musical drama “Soundtrack,” from “Smash” executive producer Joshua Safran, is a deeply frustrating entry to the genre. Originally pitched as “Mixtape” for broadcast network TV, “Soundtrack” uses a vague framework of “Love songs are good” to have its characters lip-sync existing songs — by artists ranging from Demi Lovato to Joni Mitchell —at sporadic moments throughout the series. In two intertwining timelines, romantic leads Sam and Nellie — played with verve by Paul James (“Greek”) and Callie Hernandez (“Under the Silver Lake”)— circle each other and express their frustrations to the tune of Imagine Dragons and St. Vincent. Their concerned mother figures Antoinette (Marianne Jean-Baptiste) and Margot (Madeleine Stowe) pace across the screen to Whitney Houston and Dolly Parton. Nellie’s father, Frank (Campbell Scott), fittingly embraces classic dad rock, while Sam’s struggling cousin Dante (Jahmil French) prefers The Weeknd.

Veteran television writer and producer Joshua Safran says music is actually his “No. 1 passion.” Having grown up playing music well before he studied film and television, Safran has had a longtime love of musicals. He was able to combine the mediums in 2013 when he joined then-NBC musical drama “Smash” as showrunner, but now has taken it to another level by creating “Soundtrack” for Netflix.

The day might be near when it will be news if an upcoming TV series doesn’t have a podcast to go along with it. For now, add Nat Geo’s “The Hot Zone” to the growing list of series enlisting some audio companionship. The story, which tells of Lt. Col. Nancy Jaax’s (Julianna Margulies) efforts to contain the Ebola virus after its first appearance on American soil, also will be addressed in “American Epidemics,” a Wondery audio series produced in conjunction with the TV show.
Lindsay Graham, the podcast host behind “American History Tellers” and the presidential-themed fiction series “Terms” and “1865,” will head up this new series, which will span three episodes. The second episode of “American Epidemics” will focus on the production of “The Hot Zone,” featuring interviews with Margulies and showrunners Kelly Sounders and Brian Peterson.
“American Epidemics” premieres May 10, with new episodes debuting every Friday.
