- Heir to the throne of Sweden (by a change in the constitution effected when she was just two years old, that gives the succession to the eldest child of the current ruler, regardless of gender), Victoria has been gently groomed for the part by representative duties, traineeships at the Swedish delegation to the UN and elsewhere. One of the most photographed persons in Sweden and very popular, she is in a long-standing liaison with Mr. Daniel Westling, entrepreneur in the gym business. - She became heir apparent to the Swedish throne on January 1, 1980, after the Swedish Parliament passed an amendment to the Act of Succession that established absolute primogeniture. Prior to that, succession was limited to males. The process to change the succession began shortly after Victoria's birth, and during the two years it took to pass the amendment, her brother Carl Philip was born, who was briefly heir apparent but was displaced when the change went into effect. Victoria is set to become the modern world's first ruling queen to inherit a throne despite having a living legitimate and eligible brother.
