Neil Gaiman’s fantasy novel Anansi Boys is heading to the sequential art world of comics.
The 2005 novel, a New York Times best-seller that won the Locus and British Fantasy Awards, is being adapted by Dark Horse Comics, which has set screenwriter and comics author Marc Bernardin to pen what will be an eight-issue miniseries.
Shawn Martinbrough, perhaps best known as the longtime artist of the Robert Kirkman title Thief of Thieves as well as Marvel’s Luke Cage Noir, is drawing the book, which will have colors by Chris Sotomayor and letters by Jim Campbell. The first issue is due to hit stores June 26.
The novel told the travails of “Fat” Charlie Nancy, who leads a boring life as a boring Londoner until he discovers two things: that his recently deceased father was, in fact, Anansi, the trickster god of African folklore, and that he has a twin brother he’s never met.

In the "Star Trek: The Next Generation" episode "The Survivors", the U.S.S. Enterprise discovered a mystery. On the planet Delta Rana IV — otherwise uninhabited and whose surface was devastated by an ancient cataclysm — a single house sat. Beaming down, the Enterprise crew found a well-kemp lawn, a large white home, and a kindly elderly couple named Kevin and Rishon Uxbridge (John Anderson and Anne Haney). While polite and welcoming, the Uxbridges are cagey about their circumstances. How are they the only people alive on the whole planet, and how can they merely enjoy teatime and lawn mowing without acknowledging their utter isolation?
Eventually, of course, the truth would come out. Kevin Uxbridge was, in fact, a member of a species called the Douwd, a species of pure energy, possessed of godlike powers. He transformed into a humanoid and fell in love with Rishon, living with her in connubial bliss for years.

The following contains spoilers for Marvel's "Echo."
The Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) has made interesting detours in its television output, with several shows on Disney+ that serve as side-stories to the greater overarching MCU "phases." Now they've started releasing stories under the "Marvel Spotlight" banner, which allows for much more adult content than the family-friendly MCU fare people have grown accustomed to, and the first mini-series under the banner is "Echo." "Echo" follows the story of Maya Lopez (Alaqua Cox), an Indigenous woman who was taken in by Wilson Fisk, aka The Kingpin (Vincent D'Onofrio) after the death of her father. In the comics, she eventually becomes a superhero through a very long, painful journey that sees her go from one of Kingpin's goons to helping out the New Avengers, even teaming up with Moon Knight and Daredevil along the way. Created by Joe Quesada and David Mack, she's...

Let’s be honest: the MCU is in a tough place. Even excellent entries like Loki season two and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 have failed to make people forget about the abysmal Secret Invasion and imperfect movies Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania and The Marvels. Also, did you know that What If…? season two happened?
Marvel will be largely laying low for 2024, with Deadpool 3 the only movie on the film release calendar. But the tv shows will still happen, starting with Echo, the first to be released under the Ma-Rated Marvel Spotlight heading.
Based on a character created by David Mack and Joe Quesada, Echo spins out of the Hawkeye television series. In that series, we meet the deaf martial arts expert Maya Lopez, played by Alaqua Cox. In Hawkeye, Echo blames Clint Barton for the death of her father William (Zahn McClarnon), a lie told by her adoptive uncle,...

This article contains spoilers for Hawkeye season one and Spider-man: No Way Home
Ever since the introduction of Echo in Hawkeye, fans have hoped that Daredevil and the Kingpin would once again do battle on screen. While Hawkeye did eventually give us the return of Vincent D’Onofrio as Wilson Fisk, the Kingpin of Crime, Charlie Cox had only a cameo in Spider-Man: No Way Home, sans red devil horns. But if a costume designer’s resume is any indication, the two arch-enemies will be clashing again soon.
Along with clips of her excellent work on films such as Speed Racer and Thor: Ragnarok, Stacy Caballero includes a description of her work on the upcoming Echo series for Disney+. The resume indicates that in addition to designing costumes for lead actor Alaqua Cox, Caballero also worked for two others: Charlie Cox and Vincent D’Onofrio. If this is accurate, then we...

Tiffany Haddish is defending Will Smith in the wake of his viral Academy Awards moment.
The comedian told People at the Governors Ball following the Oscars ceremony that watching Smith slap presenter Chris Rock following a joke about Jada Pinkett Smith was the “most beautiful thing” to witness.
“When I saw a Black man stand up for his wife, that meant so much to me,” said Haddish, who co-starred with Jada Pinkett Smith in “Girls Trip.” “As a woman, who has been unprotected, for someone to say, ‘Keep my wife’s name out your mouth, leave my wife alone,’ that’s what your husband is supposed to do, right? Protect you, and that meant the world to me.”
Haddish, who also presented at the 2022 Oscars on March 27, continued, “And maybe the world might not like how it went down, but for me, it was the most beautiful thing I’ve...

Just like other awards shows, the Academy Awards have been slipping in relevance over the last few years.
The 2022 Academy Awards featured some big winners on the night, but Chris Rock found himself in trouble with Will Smith for a joke he made about his wife.
Rock made a joke about Jada Pinkett Smith being in "G.I. Jane" because of her shaved head, prompting Will to go on the stage and slap him.
Rock was visibly stunned as Will returned to his seat and yelled the following at him.
“Keep my wife’s name out of your f----g mouth!”
"Oh wow," said a Rock Rock as Smith made his way back to his seat.
"Will Smith just smacked the s--- out of me."
"Wow, dude, it was a G.I. Jane joke," said Rock prompting Will to double down, "Keep my wife's name out your f---ing mouth!"

One of the big new Marvel shows announced for Disney+ is Echo, starring Alaqua Cox. The character will be introduced in Hawkeye later this month and now is the perfect time for her to shine. In the comics, Echo was never truly a top-tier hero. Echo has mostly been portrayed as a supporting character, but she is remembered for her role in an era that goes well with MCU Phase 4. More specifically, she represents the rebirth of the Avengers.
Maya Lopez was introduced in Daredevil #9 in 1999. The storyline was written by David Mack and drawn by Joe Quesada. Through no fault of its own, the story was doomed to be overwhelmed by its placement in the Daredevil series, as it followed Kevin Smith’s high-profile take on the character and came just before Brian Michael Bendis’ lengthy and defining run.

Emma Stone apologized once again for “Aloha” after Sandra Oh made a joke about the film during the Golden Globes monologue.
Oh, who co-hosted this year’s ceremony with Andy Samberg, quipped that “Crazy Rich Asians” was “the first studio film with an Asian American lead since ‘Ghost in the Shell’ and ‘Aloha.'”
Stone portrayed a part-Hawaiian and part-Chinese woman in Cameron Crowe’s 2015 film “Aloha,” which garnered criticism for whitewashing an Asian role. “I’m sorry!” Stone was heard shouting from the audience.

Emma Stone didn't seem to sink into her seat when she was the subject of a joke during Andy Samberg and Sandra Oh's opening monologue at the 2019 Golden Globes. In talking about the box office success of Crazy Rich Asians, Oh joked that it's "the first studio film with an Asian-American lead since Ghost in the Shell and Aloha." Both films were criticized for whitewashing, with Stone portraying a quarter Hawaiian, quarter Chinese woman in the latter. Though the camera didn't pan to Stone for her reaction, viewers could hear it as she yelled out, "I'm sorry!" A seemingly surprised Oh then clutched her chest and shot back a sweet look.

Sandra Oh just poked fun at Emma Stone‘s role in Aloha!
During Oh’s monologue at the 76th annual Golden Globes Awards on Sunday at the Beverly Hilton Hotel, Oh praised Crazy Rich Asians for being “the first studio film with an Asian American lead since Ghost in the Shell and Aloha.”
The camera then panned to Stone, who could be seen mouthing “I’m sorry,” seemingly apologizing for her character Allison Ng, who is a quarter Chinese, a quarter Hawaiian and half Swedish.
The audience of course bursted into laughter as Oh held her hand over her heart,...

The New York Times published and then swiftly deleted a tweet Thursday which chose to comment prominently on House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s dress on the day she was elected to serve another term as the country’s third most powerful politician.
“We’ve deleted an earlier tweet to this article that was poorly framed,” the account for New York Times politics said in a terse update.
The original tweet wasn’t up for very long but was captured by the site’s all-knowing “screenshot bot,” which catalogs deleted tweets from prominent Twitter accounts. The bot also showed that the paper tried to delete a second attempt at the story.
