If you’re one of the many folks who flocked to see Guardians of the Galaxy, Volume 3, you no doubt wiped away a tear or ten when you watched Rocket Raccoon’s tragic backstory play out. But, is his origin the most traffic MCU Original of them all? Indeed, the MCU has dominated cinema for the past decade and a half and has given audiences some of the most memorable on-screen moments in history. Fans have developed close personal relationships with the heroes and characters to the point that they feel as if they’re real people existing in the real world. While that may not be true, it’s still a testament to how emotionally powerful the MCU has become that it allows audiences to empathize and care about completely fictional beings.

By now, the final line of the first MCU movie is iconic: “I am Iron Man.” And not only do we all know that the line was delivered by Robert Downey Jr., many of us also know that it was improvised, one of the many instances of the cast taking an improv approach to the film. But it almost never happened, as MCU chief Kevin Feige originally had someone else in mind to don the stylish facial hair of reformed weaponeer Tony Stark.
During the commencement address to graduates of the University of Southern California (via The Direct), Feige sought to teach the assembly a lesson about dealing with unmet expectations. When casting Iron Man, Feige and the other producers at the newly-formed Marvel Studios searched for an actor with “the perfect mix of heart and strength and charisma.” This actor would be the center of the movie that would launch a franchise,...

When Jon Favreau made "Iron Man" in 2008, he, like many, assumed it might be the last time audiences ever saw the character on the big screen. As such, he included a few cute in-jokes that were never really meant to be extrapolated into future movies. One was the post-credits stinger when Iron Man was approached by Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) about joining a team called the Avengers Initiative. Favreau has admitted in interviews that it was meant to be nothing more than a wink to fans, and not a promise of things to come.
The other in-joke was the film's last line of dialogue. When asked if he knew anything about the mysterious armor-clad superhero that had been rocketing around the world disarming terrorists, Tony Stark winked and said out loud "I am Iron Man." In superhero comics, his secret identity would have been vital. With that single line of dialogue,...

A lot has already been said about Chris Pratt's historic use of the F-word in James Gunn's cosmic trilogy capper "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3." For the last decade or so, Pratt and his co-stars have been trying to get just one cuss word to make it into the final cut of the Marvel movies they've been a part of, and finally, the dream has been realized. As the only earthling, Peter Quill was perfectly suited to belt out our planet's favorite expletive, especially during a sequence that takes place on the High Evolutionary's experimental Counter-Earth. Out of any major MCU character, Star-Lord was the obvious choice to drop an F-bomb, save for maybe Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) who came oh so close to saying "Motherf******" when he gets dusted during the post-credit scene in "Avengers: Infinity War."

I hate to upset people, but those who longed to see Tony Stark doing a load of laundry in the 2008 film "Iron Man" will not get their wish.
It seems the scene was filmed, but then cut from the film and left on the cutting room floor. It was never included in any of the film's Blu-ray/DVD special features, and it was never screened outside of editing bays and the rooms where producers review dailies. The "Iron Man" laundry scene is, it would appear, lost to time.
To remind readers, the opening of Jon Favreau's "Iron Man" -- a positively quaint film when compared to the groaning machinations of the Marvel Cinematic Universe it spawned -- was about a hotshot inventor and weapons manufacturer named Tony Stark who was kidnapped by Middle Eastern terrorists. The terrorists, led by the gangster Abu Bakkar (Sayed Badreya), had been stealing Stark...

The Marvel Cinematic Universe really gives us a novelty that took forever for comic book movies to fully embrace. The idea of superhero properties crossing over and building to a much wider world is something that’s in the DNA of the source material. Outside of the Lou Ferrigno Hulk rubbing elbows with half-realized versions of Thor and Daredevil, it’s something that we never truly got to see until Nick Fury stopped by Tony Stark’s house after the Iron Man credits. Before that, the closest thing we had was J. Jonah Jameson referencing the existence of Doctor Strange. Even their rivals at DC Comics couldn’t give us more than a Superman reference in Batman and Robin or a Batman and Robin reference in Steel.
But we did have some close calls over the decades. Some closer than others. Movies and sequels that would have brought together various...

Tony Stark never struck us as a particularly private guy. After all, his first movie ends with him doing away with the long-established tradition of superhero secret identities by declaring to the press, “I am Iron Man.” Before and since, he had no problem sharing his loves, foibles and passions with the rest of the world.
And yet, Marvel thought there were some parts of Tony Stark that shouldn’t be shared with the rest of the world, even if director Jon Favreau filmed them for the first MCU movie Iron Man. Speaking with ScreenRant about his most recent movie Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves, producer Jeremy Latcham admitted that there are deleted scenes that Marvel still won’t release, even 15 years after the movie hit theaters.

The following article contains pretty major spoilers for "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3" so proceed with caution.
The predominant feeling leading into the release of "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3" was one of finality. We've heard from some of the actors, like Dave Bautista, that they're just done with Marvel, we know James Gunn has moved into the lead creative role at DC, and all the marketing was touting Vol. 3 as the final chapter of the "Guardians" series as we know it.
Movie fans have always been a little more in the know when it comes to the inner workings of the business side of show biz, but the modern age has brought all the industry nonsense into mainstream fandom. The average comic book movie viewer is actually aware that these actors signed multi-year deals, so even if Bautista wasn't telling every interviewer that he's done after the latest "Guardians" movie,...

Despite being part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe for well over a decade, Samuel L. Jackson and Don Cheadle have never actually shared the screen together. That will all change with Secret Invasion, the upcoming Marvel series which features both Don Cheadle and Samuel L. Jackson.
Samuel L. Jackson reprises his role of Nick Fury as he investigates a conspiracy involving the Skrulls, a species of shape-shifting aliens first introduced in Captain Marvel. Fury will cross paths with James “Rhodey” Rhodes (Don Cheadle) during the investigation. Don Cheadle told Entertainment Weekly that the moment was a long-time coming. “Day one, we sat down and were like, ‘This should have happened a long time ago, but it’s great that it’s happening now,’” Cheadle said. “Sam’s a good friend, and I’ve known him a long time. It was cool to be able to sit across from him and go back and forth.

"Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3" is a farewell to the titular team. There's one character I'm particularly sad about saying goodbye to: Nebula (Karen Gillan), the grumpy alien cyborg anti-hero who wormed her way into my heart. At the beginning of this trilogy, I never would've guessed she'd end it as my favorite character of the ensemble. She's a pretty standard villain in the first "Guardians of the Galaxy" and couldn't stand out next to Lee Pace's enormous performance as Ronan the Accuser.
"Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2" redeemed Nebula in more ways than one. She not only turned from antagonist to teammate -- giving her more opportunities to bounce off the other characters -- the seeds of a deeper characterization from the film blossomed and she became a downright compelling character. Looking back at both...

Ever since Nebula was introduced in the original "Guardians of the Galaxy," she's held the mantle of the McU's most tragic character. Adopted daughter to the Mad Titan, Thanos, she's been ripped apart and put back together countless times, suffering immeasurable pain and anguish that slowly stripped away any humanity she had left. Nebula was forced to battle her "sister" Gamora (Zoe Saldaña) and after every humiliating loss, a piece of her was replaced with machinery with the sick intention of transforming her into a more effective fighter. For all the torturous meddling, Nebula has become one of the strongest, most interesting members of the Guardians. And after all the bone-breaking events over the course of "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3," she's emerged as an effective leader, ready to establish a city of lost children with Drax the...

Spoilers for "Succession" follow.
"Succession" is about power structures. The show's drama is about the dynamics of both the Roy family and the Waystar Royco leadership team — Logan (Brian Cox) has traditionally remained on top of both, and those underneath him are always squabbling for bigger pieces of the leftover pie. On a macro level, the show is a depiction of the neo-Gilded Age that is the 21st century. "Succession" focuses on the global elite, but take a drink every time the camera lingers on anonymous service workers toiling in the background.
Since the series parallels real life, it sometimes uses real people as inspiration. The Roys are the Murdochs, for instance, owners of NewsCorp and the most powerful family in media since the Hearsts. Then there's Lukas Matsson (Alexanders Skarsgård), the owner of GoJo who's set to acquire Waystar. Some have suggested he's based on Daniel Ek, the CEO...

The Marvel hero Spider-Man was played by actor Andrew Garfield in the 2012 reboot The Amazing Spider-Man. But when Garfield saw what Marvel accomplished with the superhero film The Avengers, he hated not being included in the group.

"Iron Man" was released exactly 15 years ago today, meaning that the Marvel Cinematic Universe is now a decade and a half hold. But rewinding the clocks to that fateful summer, nobody was using the words "cinematic universe" yet, and most of the superheroes that have dominated the blockbuster space for years nowhere near as well-known to the general public. But thanks to that famous post-credits scene with Samuel L. Jackson's Nick Fury wanting to talk to Tony Stark about the Avengers Initiative, it sure seemed like Marvel had it all planned from the start. Well, they didn't really know what was yet to come, and as evidence of that, Jackson very well could have just ended up making a "Snakes on a Plane" reference instead. Yes, really.

When it comes to cameos in James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, the franchise overlord put the “awesome” in Awesome Mix. We blasted off into the Marvel Cinematic Universe‘s cosmos for what’s supposed to be a final hurrah for the team first assembled in 2014, and it was a who’s who of returning favorites and new faces in this new offering.
As with any MCU outing, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 was stuffed to bursting with Easter eggs and cameos. Alongside the welcome return of Sylvester Stallone’s Stakar Ogord and Seth Green’s Howard the Duck, there’s even a role for Gunn’s wife and Peacemaker star, Jennifer Holland. Still, there’s a sense that Marvel ultimately wasted one actor that really could’ve had major potential.

If one were to write a book about a handful of movies that defined Hollywood, it would be very difficult to imagine writing that book without including 2008's "Iron Man." While the superhero movie boom certainly began several years earlier with the likes of "X-Men" and "Spider-Man," not to mention "Batman Begins," it was director Jon Favreau's take on Tony Stark that completely reshaped the way people in the movie business think about filmmaking in general. At long last, the climax of the "Guardians of the Galaxy" trilogy is here, and it's funny, tragic, brutal, and occasionally inconsistent. Most viewers won't have any problem with that. It's a sweeping story that sucks you in for one last big ride with a crew of fun-loving knuckleheads: Chris Pratt's Peter Quill/Star-Lord, Dave Bautista's Drax, Bradley Cooper's Rocket, Karen Gillan's Nebula, Pom Klementieff's Mantis, Zoe Saldana's Gamora, and Vin Diesel's Groot. (Kraglin and Cosmo mostly stay at home and participate minimally.)

One of the most devastating deaths in 2018's "Avengers: Infinity War" is the loss of Gamora (Zoe Saldaña), who's sacrificed by her father, Thanos (Josh Brolin), so he can get all the Infinity Stones. However, 2019's "Avengers: Endgame" - which had even more losses of iconic Marvel heroes - undid Gamora's ending. The movie, which involves a complicated time-travel plot, sees Thanos from 2014 come into "Endgame"'s present day (in 2023) with Gamora by his side. That Gamora not only hasn't left Thanos's service, but she's also never met any of the Guardians besides her sister Nebula (Karen Gillan), whom she has a contentious relationship with.
At the end of the movie, Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) uses the Infinity Gauntlet to instantly kill Thanos and his army; the action also kills Tony himself. But, somehow, Tony doesn't kill 2014 Gamora, even though she's technically on Thanos's side. Back in 2019 at Comic-Con,...

The trailers for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 have included everything you’d expect from a James Gunn movie, including unlikely but perfectly-chosen rock songs and plenty of antagonistic banter between its heroes. But all of the Guardians 3 trailers have included another, perhaps troubling, aspect: a dour tone. It’s not just that Peter Quill (Chris Pratt) is still recovering from the death of his beloved Gamora (Zoe Saldana), who has returned as a younger and decidedly more impatient person. It’s also that this is the final go-around for Gunn and this version of the Guardians of the Galaxy.
Now, longtime superhero fans will tell you that death means nothing to superheroes. All of the Guardians have died in the comics at one time or another, and they’ve all come back to life. But things...

By this point, post-credit scenes have become synonymous with Marvel movies. Ever since Samuel L. Jackson walked into Tony Stark’s living room to recruit Iron Man into the Avengers, fans have stuck around through sometimes more than ten minutes of credits to get just a little more time with their favorite characters. Sometimes it works out, like when the Maximoff twins appeared in Baron Strucker’s keep at the end of Captain America: The Winter Soldier. And sometimes, it’s just an ant playing the drums, as in Ant-Man and the Wasp.
While most MCU fans look forward to the post-credits scenes, the last outing of Star-Lord’s crew may have tested viewers’ patience with five extra clips in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. For the team’s final outing, director James Gunn is showing a bit more restraint.

Even two decades after their release, the original "X-Men" movies remain gems of the superhero genre. They are bold, ambitious, unique movies -- the first two anyway -- with exquisite casting and poignant stories of bigotry and tolerance. They also gave us Hugh Jackman, Patrick Stewart, and Ian McKellen in tremendous roles that have defined their respective characters, delivering a grounded look that, for better or worse, established a certain superhero style that still resonates to this very day.
After the success of "X-Men" in 2000, "X2: X-Men United" went even bigger and better, with louder action set pieces, more mutants, and a classic story of old enemies banding together to face one hell of a villain.
Perhaps no aspect of this movie feels more miraculous in 2023 than the character of William Stryker, the main antagonist of the film. Aside from having Logan Roy from "Succession" as the bad guy, the...

The MCU made Oscar history this year as Angela Bassett earned the franchise its first-ever acting nomination for her supporting turn as Queen Ramonda in “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.” This was the sequel to “Black Panther,” which was the first film in the franchise to reap a Best Picture bid.
So often, the MCU is consigned to visual effects and sound categories at the Academy Awards. For both “Black Panther” movies to break through in key categories (plus double wins for Ruth E. Carter‘s costume design), is remarkable. Still, though, the artist and filmmaking talent on show in the MCU is often overlooked purely because they are superhero movies. With that in mind, here are five Oscars categories where the MCU deserves more attention.

Angela Bassett didn’t quite do the thing and win the Academy Award this year, but she came mighty close. The iconic actress was nominated for “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever” for her powerful performance as Queen Ramonda, which was one of the star turns not only in the “Black Panther” sequel but in the entirety of the MCU. Bassett lost out to Jamie Lee Curtis (“Everything Everywhere All at Once”) but the fact that she was even nominated is something of a victory in and of itself. Her was the first acting bid the MCU has ever received — so Bassett is still very much a history-maker given the Oscars’ historically snobbish attitude towards superhero flicks.
But Bassett isn’t the only performer to wow audiences in an MCU movie — the franchise is actually littered with excellent performances that have been overlooked purely because they feature in superhero films. With that in mind,...

Apple TV’s latest release, “Ghosted,” brings Chris Evans’ Cole, who is a farmer, face-to-face with Ana de Armas’ Sadie, who is a CIA agent. It takes a lot of chaos for the underlying sexual tension between them to turn into a romance. Many secondary characters address this, and it is very true. Let’s find out more about these two.
Spoilers Ahead
Cole
Cole comes across as needy, as per his family, especially his sister. And his texts to Sadie also point toward this nature of his. But he is also someone who cares for the people he loves. But there is something of a catch in his character. He was kidnapped and almost executed; numerous guys were shot in front of him, and he almost fell into a gorge while hanging from a truck. For a guy who has never left home in his life, which is another...

Scarlett Johansson and Gwyneth Paltrow have set the record straight on past rumours that they clashed on the set of Iron Man 2.
Over a decade ago, Johannson made her Marvel Cinematic Universe debut as Black Widow in the 2010 superhero sequel, alongside Paltrow who reprised herrole as Tony Stark’s assistant, Pepper Potts.
At the time, rumours swirled that the two did not get along on set. And while they have previously denied them, people still seem stuck on the notion that there was tension.
“People ask me, ‘Is it true that you and Scarlett Johansson didn’t get along on Iron Man?’” Paltrow told Johansson on the latest episode of her self-hosted podcast, The Goop Podcast.
“Is that a rumour?” Johansson asked. “You were so nice to me on that movie. I was so petrified. You were so nice to me! You could’ve been awful. I was so...

An Avengers: Endgame deleted scene could prove that a popular theory about the villain Thanos (Josh Brolin) has been true all along.
The clip, which you can watch on streaming service Disney Plus, is an alternate version of a conversation between Hulk (Mark Ruffalo) and the Ancient One (Tilda Swinton) featured in the film.
Swinton’s character can be seen telling Hulk that removing an Infinity Stone creates a new timeline. However, she then goes on to reveal something that was omitted from the film – that she’s already used the Time Stone to see beyond her very own death.
It’s here where she drops the huge revelation that Thanos’s destructive finger-snap, which wiped out half of all existence, didn’t actually kill a single person.
She explains that, rather than kill people, Thanos willed them out of existence, which is what made their eventual resurrection possible.

When the role of Spider-Man was going to be re-cast again — following Tobey Maguire in Sam Raimi's widely praised trilogy and Andrew Garfield's angsty turn in the dark and underappreciated "The Amazing Spider-Man" series — Sony Pictures and the Marvel Cinematic Universe needed an actor who could step into the suit in new and exciting ways.
Robert Downey Jr. refers to Spider-Man as "the gold standard in the MCU," unlike his own comic book character. "Iron Man? Whatever. When I became Iron Man few had even heard of the character, ergo less pressure. But Spider-Man? Everyone knows Spider-Man," he told GQ.
Not only would the new Spider-Man have to be strong enough to carry Peter Parker's fabled story, but also stand alongside the Avengers in the expansive Marvel universe. Since Iron Man would have a close relationship with him, Downey Jr. helped cast Tom Holland, he told Jimmy Kimmel.

15 years after he launched the Marvel Cinematic Universe with the post-credits scene of “Iron Man,” Samuel L. Jackson will get to take center stage as Nick Fury in the upcoming Disney+ series “Secret Invasion,” which just released a new trailer on Sunday. Disney also announced that the show will premiere on June 21.
As MCU fans saw with “Captain Marvel” in 2019, Nick Fury has had an alien ally for decades in Talos (Ben Mendelson), the leader of a sect of aliens called Skrulls who have taken refuge on Earth after their homeworld was destroyed.
But as seen in the new trailer, that sect is becoming a threat thanks to rogue Skrull named Gravik (Kingsley Ben-Adir), who has formed his own group apart from Talos and believes the best way for the Skrulls to survive is to use their shapeshifting powers to infiltrate Earth’s government and take what they need.

This piece contains mild spoilers for "Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves."
There's no denying the impact that "Dungeons & Dragons" has had on popular culture over the past few decades. The tabletop's deep world-building and encouragement of roleplaying gave it a particular reputation of being for nerds at best, and being the tool of Satanists at worst.
Of course, what was once considered uncool usually becomes cool again, and D&d has seen a resurgence in recent years thanks to properties like "Critical Role" and "Stranger Things." It has made a similar inroad to mainstream success as comic books, which saw renewed interest once the Marvel Cinematic Universe made the nerd zone accessible to general audiences. 15 years after recruiting Tony Stark for the Avengers Initiative in the post-credits scene for "Iron Man," Samuel L. Jackson's Nick Fury is finally getting the spotlight to himself in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It's long overdue for the beloved character, who's been constantly stuck playing second fiddle to Earth's Mightiest Heroes and other major do-gooders in the franchise, most notably Steve Rogers and Carol Danvers. Admittedly, the latter's 2019 solo film, "Captain Marvel," featured Fury as a co-lead opposite Brie Larson as the titular cosmic superhero in something of a 1990s-styled buddy action-comedy throwback. Still, for as much as that movie plays like a backdoor Nick Fury origin story, its whole vibe doesn't really befit someone as morally grey and ethically flexible as Slj's super-spy/agent.

Black Panther 2 tried its best to fill the Ironman gap with the young hero Ironheart — but in doing so, MCU complicated things for Riri Williams. After Tony’s sacrifice in Avengers: Endgame, MCU really needed a smart and integral character to take his place, and Black Panther: Wakanda Forever came running for the save. It is the first movie since Endgame to feature an armor-clad hero as an official MCU replacement for the infamous Tony Stark. Here's some news that just might make your head spin a little. For all those movie lovers who hold up the 1958 "Vertigo" as a stone-cold classic, you might not want to look down. Apparently, Paramount Pictures, the studio behind the original film, has started greasing the wheels for a remake. The Alfred Hitchcock movie, of course, starred the great James Stewart as a former cop forced into early retirement after a harrowing and deadly encounter on the job leaves him with a debilitating case of acrophobia -- a fear of heights, for all the laypeople out there.
The report comes courtesy of Deadline, but that's really only the tip of the iceberg. Incredibly enough, this project will apparently bring on Steven Knight to write the script. Oh, and the cherry on top? None other than Robert Downey Jr. is being looked at to fill the role originally played by Stewart.

To state it outright, Shane Black's 2013 film "Iron Man 3" is one of the best films of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It was a film not about overpowering villains or the strength of forward-assault military tactics, but about wit and character. Tony Stark spent a great deal of the film outside of his armor, mentally damaged by the trauma of fighting aliens during "The Avengers" (2012), requiring him to use his brains to solve a new crisis. He also uses his Iron Man suit to stage a daring mid-air rescue in a display of heroism frustratingly lacking from a series about superheroes.
Additionally, the film added a clever twist to its villain, a terrorist calling himself The Mandarin (Ben Kingsley). While initially presented as an aggressive, violent criminal, it was eventually revealed that the Mandarin was in fact a dumb, drug-addled actor, hired by Aldrich Killian (Guy Pearce) to merely pose as a villain.

It’s no secret that the MCU has been the biggest Hollywood juggernaut over the last 15 years, consisting of more than 31 films and raking in a record $28.6 billion worldwide. The first MCU post-credit scene originated in Iron Man and introduced a character who remains a significant player in the series — Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson). The scene finds Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) arriving home, only to find Nick Fury waiting for him. After telling him that Iron Man isn’t the only superhero in the world, Nick Fury brings up the Avengers Initiative.
While appearing on Jimmy Kimmel Live! to promote the third season of The Mandalorian, Iron Man director Jon Favreau revealed an alternate version of that Nick Fury post-credit scene. You can probably imagine where this is going, as Favreau couldn’t resist asking Jackson to drop one of his iconic mother-f***ers just for fun.

Robert Downey Jr. doesn’t have to work again for the rest of his life. The star has cemented his legacy and financial security with the Marvel juggernauts that he had partook in. However, outside of the Tony Stark character, Downey also brought a classic franchise into a modern retelling with the action comedies of the Sherlock Holmes movies. The films were also brought to life in a fresh way thanks to the stylistic take of director Guy Ritchie. The last film, Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows, was released just over a decade ago. Ever since then a third film has been in an out of development, and if you want an update about when (or if) we can expect a third film, Guy Ritchie says you have you ask Downey.
Collider recently asked Ritchie about Sherlock Holmes 3, and he says it will happen if Robert Downey Jr.
