Yann-Shan Tsai graduated from the Department of Sociology, National Taiwan University, and earned her MFA from the City College of New York. She began her career as an assistant director and has worked on documentary films. She has been working as a film editor since 2016.
In recent years, Yann-Shan has been collaborating with the Taiwan-based French editor, Matthieu Laclau. Their co-edited films have garnered attention at prestigious film festivals, including "Nina Wu," directed by Midi Z (2019 Un Certain Regard, Cannes), "The Last Queen," directed by Adila Bendimerad and Damien Ounouri (2022 Venice Days), and "A Song Sung Blue," directed by Geng Zihan (2023 Director's Fortnight). Her latest editing work "Sleep with Your Eyes Open" has won the FIPRESCI Prize at the 74th Berlinale.
