The original band calling themselves "The Deadbeats" consisted of Clay Campbell on drums, Russ Crandall played harp, Lenny Druss played flute / clarinet / alto sax, Patrick Ferrari on guitar, Sam Porfirio on accordion, and Harold Siegel on bass. The Deadbeats were featured on Chicago's WBKB channel 7 Shock Theatre show, featuring Marvin as the host. Marvin, who is actually actor Terry Bennett, would accompany them in songs with his singing or reciting some catchy verse. The Deadbeats would occasionally accompany Terry Bennett (as Marvin) for special events outside of their television show. School parties, sock hops, special appearances would usually have the regulars from the show. For a few years The Deadbeats were featured on the television show that followed Shock Theatre (1957). This show was called Shocktail Party. Also referred to as Aftershock. The Deadbeats existed as long as Shock Theatre, from 1957 to 1959. When Shock Theatre (1957) was nearing its last days on the air, less and less appearances of The Deadbeats were featured on the show. Lenny Druss went on to play his flute in a Chicago jazz band calling themselves The Soulful Strings. From 1966 - 1977 they recorded their music on the Cadet label. It is unknown as too what the remaining band members went on to do.
There were other bands with entirely different members that took "The Deadbeats" name. In 1978 a rock band calling themselves The Deadbeats had a hit with their take of the Munster Theme (live) version. This song later was featured in the movie Art School Confidential (2006). Another band using the Deadbeat name was Uncle Acid & The Deadbeats. Debated in 2010. They were a "Metal" rock group that did opening acts for Black Sabbath concerts in Europe.
