While Amazon MGM Studios didn’t take the stage at CinemaCon, they did meet with exhibitors and key press to strut their future theatrical slate, in particular they showed off ten minutes of the Dwayne Johnson and Chris Evans’ movie Red One. While we agree to keep mum about the details of the Santa Claus rescue movie, let’s just say the originally conceived for Prime Video title is definitely meant for theatrical, which is where it’s going on Nov. 15; the only wide release currently on that weekend.
Let’s just say that Red One is a fire-breathing Christmas action movie that completely reinvents the holiday genre. There hasn’t been a mass appealing Christmas tentpole in six years, the last being Illumination/Universal’s The Grinch which made over a half billion worldwide. Cinema has been a little duller for the eight-year absence of Tarsem Singh Dhandwar, the Indian-born auteur whose flamboyant formal style carried over from the music video realm into a distinctively sensuous strain of mainstream fantasy filmmaking — halted by the relative disappointment of 2015’s lackluster Ryan Reynolds vehicle “Self/less.” That makes Singh Dhandwar’s return with “Dear Jassi” something of an event, even before considering the film’s surprising expansion of his repertoire: Leaving behind Hollywood, genre cinema and his trademark maximalist mise-en-scène for his first film made in his homeland, the director keeps things simple but stately in this fact-based tale of young, star-crossed love in India’s Punjab region.
The result is sometimes slack but incrementally powerful, marked by a palpable sense of renewed purpose on the part of its helmer. Singh Dhandwar claims the true story of Jaswinder Kaur Sidhu, a young Indian-Canadian woman murdered by...

After the ‘Ticket to Finale’ task, Prakram made his way to become the first finalist on ‘Roadies’ which gave Gautam gang the lead, despite him having the biggest disadvantage. Now contestants Vashu, Rishabh, Siwet, and Himanshu are the ones competing in the semi-final task, making this basically a fight between Rhea and Prince.
The semi-final task is called ‘Panchtatva’ and is a combination of the universe’s five elements, earth, air, water, fire and sky.
Going with the theme, the contestants have to collect five bricks with pathways created using these elements and skillfully balance them, symbolising harmonic elemental balance of the universe in an unusually spiritual-philosophical style.
After hearing about this task, Rhea said: “The Semi-Finale is dead. We can’t breathe here and now they have to do all this.”

Tarsem Singh Dhandwar’s “Dear Jassi” starts with a declaration: This is a love story. Sikh singer Kanwar Grewal proclaims this directly to the audience while sitting in the lush fields of Punjab, visibly moved already by the the events about to be depicted. Over the next 132 minutes, Dhandwar weaves the stirring, tragic, and true journey of Jassi (Pavia Sidhu) and Mithu (Yugam Sood).
Jaswinder “Jassi” Kaur and Sukhwinder Singh “Mithu” Sidhu met in Punjab in the 1990s, where they quickly fell in love. “Dear Jassi” chronicles their courtship from that first serendipitous meeting and through years of love letters, phone calls, and a secret marriage. Dhandwar and his cinematographic collaborator Brendan Galvin instantly immerse viewers in the story, told through long takes and slow, steady panning that captures the stillness of rural India — and how love and hate can shake that peace to its very roots.

The quasi-narrator who bookends Tarsem Singh’s return to the big screen with the India-set Dear Jassi doesn’t quite know where to start his ripped-from-the-headlines true story-turned-folk-tale. His Juliet in the Canadian-raised Jassi (Pavia Sidhu), born to a good family that sends her back to their homeland to vacation with her cousin? His Romeo in the Punjabi-born but baptized Sikh, illiterate rickshaw driver / amateur athlete Mithu (Yugam Sood)? Or with the fateful meeting of these star-crossed lovers who serendipitously reside one street apart?
While the plot ultimately chooses the latter, it’s not before providing a glimpse of the future. Screaming. Abuse. Police. It’s a foreshadowing of the other shoe dropping almost 90 minutes before it does––a necessity for intrigue since that hour-and-a-half can’t help dragging in its familiar tale of forbidden, secretive love. In a perfect world Mithu would only have to ask for Jassi’s hand in marriage.

Exclusive: Aditya Sood has been promoted to President of Lord Miller — the production company of Academy Award-winning filmmakers Phil Lord and Chris Miller (Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse) — with Dan Shear joining as EVP and head of Television.
These strategic moves are described as a natural evolution for Lord Miller, which has continued to expand in both film and television over the past several years — recently seeing Universal release their Elizabeth Banks-directed comedy Cocaine Bear, with four other projects coming up for release this year.
Regarded as having a strong eye for standout original material, Sood has been with Lord Miller as President of Film since 2019, and will now expand his oversight to include all aspects of the company including television, adding to his existing responsibilities for overseeing their film efforts.

The merger of two multiplex chains – PVR Ltd and Inox Leisure – will not result in any rationalisation of properties but there may be upgradation of some screens based on the market, a senior PVR official said.
Chief Financial Officer Nitin Sood also said the company’s Sri Lankan operations have done well during the third quarter despite the economic turmoil the country is facing.
Recently the National Company Law Tribunal (Nclt), Mumbai Bench, has through its verbal order, allowed the proposed scheme of amalgamation between PVR and Inox Leisure.
“Post amalgamation, there will not be any rationalisation of screens. But there can be upgrades based on the market demand,” Sood told Ians.
He said post-amalgamation, the company’s new name will be PVR Inox Ltd and the screens will be branded as PVR Inox.
