At 10.29am on 9 October 2019, Coleen Rooney posted a statement on Twitter. It was crafted with all the narrative tension and dramatic flair of a classic whodunnit. “For a few years now,” it read, a follower on her private Instagram account had been sharing details of her posts with The Sun newspaper. After puzzling over the case for “a long time”, she developed a hunch as to “who it could be” – to prove it, she constructed a simple but dazzlingly effective social media sting operation.
Rooney, the wife of former England captain Wayne, blocked all but one account from viewing her Instagram Stories, then cooked up a handful of fake news titbits: one claimed she was considering flying to Mexico to investigate gender selection treatment, another hinted at a return to TV and a third bemoaned a (fictional) flood at the Rooneys’ new home. These stories made their way into the...

The noughties were a big decade for cinema, featuring the advent of modern 3D, (probably) the last Star Wars film George Lucas will ever direct and even a filmic appearance from former Bradford City centre forward Stan Collymore.

Sometimes a movie rumour is so ridiculous you have to admire it. A tip of the cap, then, to the fine folks suggesting that Cristiano Ronaldo might appear in a Martin Scorsese movie.
Reportedly called The Manipulator, details on the project are - surprise, surprise! - thin on the ground, but Spanish paper Marca is reporting that it's down to the prolific goalscorer's taste in property.
The film is rumoured to be based on the life of Italian millionaire Alessandro Proto (who many think inspired the character Christian Grey in Fifty Shades of Grey), and as Ronaldo owns Proto's old apartment in New York's Trump Tower, Scorsese wants to borrow it for the shoot.
As part of the favour / deal / devil's pact, Ronaldo has reportedly been granted a small role, in the process putting him up there with David Beckham (creepy Russian projector guy in The Man from Uncle) and...

BT Sport has extended its deal for live Italian Serie A football for a further three years.
The broadcaster will now have the rights to show up to 380 exclusively live matches per season until 2017/18.
Head of BT Sport Simon Green said: "Serie A attracts some of the best players in the world and is a fantastic, competitive league featuring some of the legendary teams of European folklore, such as Juventus, AC Milan, Inter and Roma."
Sky Sports and BT Sport recently won the UK television rights for the Premier League from 2016 to 2019.
The huge new deal covers the rights to show 168 games per season, and is worth a record-breaking total of £5.136 billion.
Stan Collymore was reportedly taken off BT Sport's coverage of last week's Rangers game against Raith Rovers, after he claimed that the Glasgow club's matches should not be televised until fans stop singing sectarian songs.

Stan Collymore has reportedly been 'taken off' BT Sport's coverage of tomorrow's (February 21) Rangers game against Raith Rovers.
The football pundit previously claimed that the Glasgow club's matches should not be televised until fans stop singing sectarian songs.
Just had a call from @btsportfootball . I'm taken off tomorrow's show.
Absolutely fine. Better to be right than bury my head.
Enjoy!

In a Twitter post, Collymore wrote: "Just had a call from @btsportfootball. I'm taken off tomorrow's show.
"Absolutely fine. Better to be right than bury my head. Enjoy!"
Collymore previously backed a petition calling for a boycott of Rangers - although he attracted some criticism from its fans for singling out the club and not local rivals Celtic.
In a series of Twitter posts, he went on to say: "I can hold my head high and say i did the right thing to challenge hypocrisy amongst Rangers fans.

Stan Collymore has branded the BBC hypocritical after allegedly having an offer to appear on Match of the Day 2 withdrawn.
The football pundit caused controversy earlier this year when he posted a tweet criticising Britain's involvement in the Falklands, prompting a protest by a veterans group.
The tweet read: "Falklands? Wasn't anyone's. We just thieved it, as we do. What glory, what triumph. A f**king island with sheep. Rule Britannia."
He noted recently that other figures have remained at the BBC despite being "controversial", adding: "If Jeremy Clarkson can work for them, so can I.
"If my tweet about the Falklands, which did not mention the 1982 conflict, nor Argentina, nor was aimed at British servicemen or women, merely an opinion of British colonial policy in centuries gone by... was offensive enough for the BBC to withdraw their offer, why does Jeremy Clarkson get several attempts at offending many Britons?...

Every generation thinks they invented sex, right? Well, whoever invented it in the 90s was doing it very strangely...
Off the back of the international success of Basic Instinct, Sharon Stone was catapulted to movie stardom. Writer Joe Ezterhas enjoyed the fruits of that too, and the pair decided to see if lightning could strike twice. Thus, Ezterhas, under the guidance of producer Robert Evans, put Sliver together, an adaptation of the novel by Ira Levin.
In truth, Sliver should have opened with the song from Muppets Most Wanted. "We're doing a sequel", they joyously sing. "It's more of the same!". And whilst Sliver wasn't Basic Instinct 2 - that cinematic joy would be over a decade away, and at that stage merely a glint in Stan Collymore's eye - there's little doubting that the plan was to recapture what had turned Basic Instinct into a huge hit several years before.

The worlds of football and cinema frequently collide, and judging by the number of great sportsmen who've tried their hand at acting, it's clear that Hollywood holds a strong allure for the professional athlete.
With the 2014 FIFA World Cup about to get underway, Digital Spy takes a look at a handful of actors who've made it to the big screen.
1. Pelé (Escape to Victory)
Arguably the greatest footballer of all time, Pelé lined up alongside fellow icons Bobby More and Ossie Ardiles (and a host of Ipswich Town greats!) in this inspiring blend of Great Escape-style war flick and underdog sports story.
A firm Bank Holiday favourite, Escape to Victory also boasts a starting eleven containing Michael Caine and Sylvester Stallone. They don't make them like this anymore.
2. Vinnie Jones (Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels)
After retiring from the beautiful game, Wimbledon hardman Vinnie Jones established a second career for himself.

Arsene Wenger’s pursuit of a striker has been well-documented this winter, with pundits believing that a centre-forward was the one biggest missing ingredient in his quest for a Premier League winning side, particularly with injuries to Lukas Podolski and Yaya Sanogo, and an over-reliance on Olivier Giroud. And though the majority of the media today took Wenger’s assertion that they were focusing on one player “at least” to mean they only expected to finalise one deal (likely for Kim Kallstrom,) it seems Wenger was in fact busy on other fronts.
Sky Sports News have just confirmed that Arsenal have failed in a deadline day bid to sign Lille forward, and former Chelsea striker Salomon Kalou on loan. The French side are willing to let Kalou leave permanently, in order to get his wages off the books, but they aren’t interested in a loan at this stage.

Gary Lineker has defended Match of the Day from criticism of its football analysis and punditry.
The former England striker has presented the highlights show since Des Lynam's departure in 1999. It has in recent years been criticised by Stan Collymore and others for a lack of quality in its analysis.
"It's comfortably the most difficult thing in terms of football punditry on television," Lineker told Digital Spy.
"It's the most-watched show for a start - it's not an anoraky kind of show, we don't have hours.
"Our show is not aimed at people that think they're technically better than they are because they play FIFA or whatever.
"It's aimed at the general public who want to watch the highlights of their teams with a little of bit of a) analysis b) opinion and c) news stories of the day. We also have, obviously, very little time."

Football is a game of currency: not just in terms of the money that changes hands for players and for TV rights, but also of the effect it has on fans. Excitement, apprehension, that tingly feeling on the back of your neck and of course, the unmistakable feeling that your club’s new foreign number ten is going to make all the difference to your beloved team.
Both types of currency are deeply invested in that final idea most of all – impact of a player is inevitably always compared with their real cost to the club – their emotional impact on fans and the real impact on the pitch judged against the amount of pounds it cost to secure their services. Inevitably, with the global expansion of the game, and the access given to other leagues and their foreign stars, as well as the relative inexpense of buying from abroad, rather than at home,...

David Beckham, Michael Jordan, Pelé … Team Gb's young diver should take a look at the abject dabbling of sport's biggest stars before making the switch
Although nobody would deny Team Gb the opportunity to cash in on their hard-won successes this summer, you can't help but wish they'd be a bit pickier. Mo Farah had barely taken his trainers off before he was roped in to tool around with Richard Branson. Victoria Pendleton has wasted no time signing up to Strictly Come Dancing, as if the logical follow-up to being a world-class cyclist is seeing whether you can foxtrot better than Johnny Ball.
But the most troubling post-Olympic news has only just emerged. It's Tom Daley. You see, he wants to act. Asked about his long-term goals before his big homecoming parade in Plymouth this week, Daley said: "Film work, I'd love to do anything like that. I would love to try anything new really,...

Sky Sports have just announced their second round of live Premiership fixtures and for my club Newcastle United, it’s three big ties that have been chosen to be screened live. Matches against Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester United will be moved for television.
Newcastle United vs Chelsea will be a Saturday early afternoon kick-off at 12.45pm on December 3rd.
Liverpool vs. Newcastle United at Anfield on December 30th will be a Friday Night kick-off on New Year’s Eve’s Eve at 7.45pm – and no doubt it will give Sky Sports the chance to re-show the Stan Collymore goal in the 4-3 defeat Years ago.
Newcastle United vs. Manchester United, which usually has tons of goals with it but last season ended in a 0-0 draw (though it was a thrilling and tense match) will be a Wednesday night 8pm kick-off on January 4th, 2012.
All games will be covered with...

Sequels are hit and miss. But if Martin Scorsese is really reviving Travis Bickle, here's a plot for him
A sequel? To Taxi Driver? Taxi Driver 2? Co-directed by Martin Scorsese and Lars Von Trier? Whaaat? Well, this does appear to be what Scorsese himself has suggested to a Copenhagen film magazine, although what Scorsese appears to have in mind (seriously or not) is a form of remake or re-imagining: Taxi Driver Reloaded.
Now, is this really a good idea? Did Scorsese simply invoke Von Trier's name in generous tribute to his Danish interviewer? Some might suggest that the real sequel to Taxi Driver has in any case already been achieved: by John Hinckley Jr, in 1981, outside the Washington Hilton. Obsessed with star Jodie Foster and her performance in Taxi Driver, and in a grotesque attempt to "impress" her and claim her attention, Hinckley shot President Ronald Reagan.

The trailer for unconventional Brit rom-com Dogging: A Love Story (yes, like Stan Collymore in a Range Rover, and yes, we were as surprised as you are) has been released, starring Luke Treadaway (soon to be swinging swords next year in Clash Of The Titans) and directed by newcomer Simon Ellis. It's a story as old as time: Geordie journo Dan (Treadaway) loses his girlfriend and can't get a job. Desperate for a big break in the cut-throat world of hackery, he does what we'd all do in his situation... and takes up dogging, joining online forums using the pseudonym "East Of England Eight Inches" hoping to expose the whole scene. In the course of his car park wanderings, he meets a fellow dogger (a doggette, if you will), called "Horny Geordie Lass" and, well, falls in love. As you do. It's not the first idea we'd have pitched to movie execs,...
