The first season of Holy Family did not offer anything great when it came to storytelling. It was a regular family drama thriller with many convoluted subplots that tried hard to create tension between the family and friends. The second season is an extension of the story from the first installment. Holy Family is a Spanish Netflix original that was released on November 17, 2023, and was created by Manolo Caro.
The second season started with the chaos that was unleashed by Natalia and Gloria in their quest to hold onto Nico. With Natalia and Nico back in her custody, Gloria is close to getting her plan back on track, as she was awaiting Mariana’s passport as well. Her goal to move to Canada was still on, but many obstacles could foil her immigration plans. Natalia and her father Fernando, Marcos’ brother Felipe, and Gloria’s only daughter Mariana were going...

Audiences watching Roger Ross Williams’ latest feature “Cassandro” might be surprised by one of the faces they see: that of musician Bad Bunny. The singer turned actor stars as Felipe, a friend and associate “exotico” wrestler Cassandro (Gael Garcia Bernal) meets. The film follows Cassandro’s journey of finding self-acceptance through a larger-than-life character.
“I remember the producers came to me and said, ‘Bad Bunny wants to be in the film.’ I almost fell off my chair,” Williams told TheWrap. According to the director, he auditioned several actors for the character of Felipe and had actually come down to the final group of contenders. “We screen tested a Felipe and the guy was about to get the call,” he said. That is until Bad Bunny’s people reached out.
The musician, according to Williams, is a fan of the Mexican wrestling known as lucha libre that, along with his interest...

One of the more wonderful surprises out of this year’s Sundance Film Festival was Cassandro, director Roger Ross Williams’ tender and poignant portrait of Saúl Armendáriz (Gael García Bernal), a gay lucha libre wrestler from El Paso (who spent much of his youth across the border in Juárez) who rose to fame as a so-called exótico — a male wrestler in drag.
After trying to take his own life, Armendáriz overcame his demons and became the first exótico to win a Universal Wrestling Association (Uwa) championship, opening a number of wrestling-world minds in the process.

Gael García Bernal nails his best role in years, giving a performance steeped in cheeky humor, resilience and radical self-belief — not to mention some amazingly nimble moves — as groundbreaking lucha libre wrestler Saúl Armendáriz in Cassandro. Seasoned documentarian Roger Ross Williams, who profiled Armendáriz in 2016 for the Amazon series The New Yorker Presents, makes an assured transition into narrative features with this entertaining biopic, which doubles as a gorgeous depiction of mother-son love and an exhilarating exploration of fearless queer identity in a macho environment.
While Williams (Life, Animated) and co-screenwriter David Teague (who adapted Ta-Nehesi Coates’ Between the World and Me for HBO) slightly fumble the ending, this is a film with enormous heart, vivid immersion into its culturally specific milieu and celebratory admiration for its flamboyant subject, images of whom both in and out of the ring grace the end credits.
