Emily Asher-Perrin at Tor.com pegs everything that Steven Moffat did to River Song that reduced her from an awesome babe with a life and adventures of her own to a crazy chick obsessed with the Doctor. I could have written this piece. In fact, I’ve said much of it before. But Asher-Perrin gets it all down in one place:
In River’s introduction, she has all the power: she is the one who calls the Doctor, she is the one who scolds him when he’s being obstinate, she is the one who rallies the group and moves them along. In a telling move for the Davies era, it is she who grabs the Doctor’s hand when the first run together, not the other way around. She is taking him on as a companion in that first meeting. Ten is so moved by her near-death plea to preserve their time together,...

"Oblivion" co-star and former Bond Girl Olga Kurylenko has enrolled in "Vampire Academy: Blood Sisters," an adaptation of the latest supernatural young-adult craze. The "Vampire Academy" series takes place at St. Vladimir's Academy, and Kurylenko will play the thankless role of headmistress Kirova. If you thought regular high school was confusing and full of needless social constructs, wait until you get a load of St. Vlad's. There are good vampires (the Moroi), bad vampires (the Strigoi), and half-human guardians who are trained to protect the Moroi and stop the Strigoi (dhampirs). Our heroine, Rose, who is not too fond of Kirova, is a dhampir whose Bff is Lissa, queen of the vamps. While she's training to become a bad-ass guardian, Rose is also feeling some not-so-undead feelings for her teacher, Dimitri. Zoey Deutch, who played queen bee Emily Asher in "Beautiful Creatures," has signed on for the lead role of Rose.

With the February 13th release of Beautiful Creatures coming soon, we chatted with cast members Alden Ehrenreich, Thomas Mann and Zoey Deutch and producer Broderick Johnson for some inside info on the film.
Speaking with our East Coast correspondent Nomad recently, Alden Ehrenreich, who plays Ethan Wate, gave us his point of view on the scope of the film. "There are a lot of different scenes in the movie," Ehrenreich said. "Scenes that are epic, scenes that are magic. The tone of the scenes that I'm in is romantic, charming, wonderful stuff. To me, parts of this movie feel like a romantic comedy because there's really these funny things, these bumblings and failings of someone trying to date someone, trying to get to know another person."
He continued describing the tone: "It's able to laugh at itself. It has wit, it has charm. It's a character-driven movie that has a sense of humor to it.

Wardrobe can be a key component in the success or failure of a film, and that's especially true in a project like Beautiful Creatures. Check out this video chat with Jeffrey Kurland, who had the immense task of capturing the physical essence of the film's "extraordinary" characters through their costumes.
"It was an interesting job to say the least," Kurland tells MTV. "The characters are extraordinary because they range in emotion, not just in their physicality, but in their emotion. They exude a presence that I needed to capture physically on screen."
The story is set primarily in contemporary times, but the Gothic tale borrows heavily from the past, wardrobe included. "As far as what costumes say, they tell a story," Kurland adds. "They tell a visual story. This is just a sampling but by no means [all] you're going to see when you see the movie. Hopefully you will enjoy that.

We, at NextMovie, pride ourselves on being early adopters of Ya literature. We were on "Twilight" before K.Stew was ever a noun. We championed "The Hunger Games" before everyone (and their mom) knew it was cool. We're like hipsters, only way dorkier.
So when it was time to head off to Louisiana for a visit to the set of "Beautiful Creatures," we grabbed our dog-eared copy of the book it's based on — the one we read waaaaay before it was a movie — and geeked out on the beautiful creatures that are now bringing "Beautiful Creatures" to the big screen.
So what are the coolest details we learned on the New Orleans movie set? Read on.
1. This is not the next "Twilight."
Sure, there are similarities; "Beautiful Creatures" is also a supernatural teen romance. But, while the target audience is more or less the same, the cast and crew feel they're making something wholly unique.
