“Does it always rain here?”
In horror films when families move into a new house or a new town, they always seem to stumble upon a terror of sorts. The Parish is no different in this regard, however, its execution establishes an air on mystique and uncertainty. From director David S. Hogan, and writer Todd Downing, The Parish is a horror film with all the potential in this world, yet doesn’t quite utilise its own possibilities.
Assaulted by visions of her deceased partner dying in combat, Liz (Angela Dimarco) alongside her traumatised daughter, Audrey (Sanae Loutsis), move into a new location for a fresh start in their lives. Inducted into a religious school, the staff are aware of...

Tagline: "Some Secrets are Worth Killing For." The Parish has been in development since 2011. Since its origin, David S. Hogan's The Parish has received funding and been completed. Slated for a 2021 release, The Parish stars: Bill Oberst Jr. (3 From Hell), Angela Dimarco (Mr. Bleachers) and Sanae Loutsis (The Black String). In the story, a widow struggles with horrifying images of her long dead husband. In a rural town, she hopes to find solace through a local priest. Now, the film's U.S. poster and trailer are available here. The poster shows one of the film's villains, a blood thirsty nun. Latin scripture haunts the background in blood reds as a crucifix hovers high above. And, this is a memorable graphic, which helps build tension ahead of the March 16th release. On March 16th, Uncork'd Entertainment will release this feature on Digital and DVD. To show across the U.S.

Following a successful festival run, writer-director Rich Phelps has finally released his short film One Way or Another online for the world to see. The dark, neo-noir has been covered on these pages prior when we premiered the trailer back in October. Suffice it to say we've all been patient. Based on a true story, the nearly fourteen minute short sees two friends at a bar end up on a path neither expected when they are thrown into a violent showdown. With fine acting and a slick style punctuated by wonderfully noirish dialogue, One Way or Another, stands as a solid showcase for Phelps. We'll definitely be keeping our eyes on future work. The short stars Nick Palmieri, Ray Hopper, David S. Hogan and Joseph...

Two estranged siblings, one significant other, a dead mother’s ashes and a cabin (yes, in the woods); what’s old is new again in this classy addition to the ever-growing subgenre. Like the recent Honeymoon, The Device is a cabin in the woods movie without irony, aware of what has gone before, but not resorting to nudge-nudge-wink-wink post-modernism in the process.
And, unlike most cabin-in-the-woods features, this one even dares to venture beyond its central location, actually letting its characters leave for home – a place few of the subgenre have ever dared to go (no, Army of Darkness doesn’t count). Scattering said dead mum’s ashes at an old secluded holiday home, sisters Abby and Rebecca discover a strange alien...

Here’s somethin’ that’s as rare in these parts: a film that’s well acted, well shot with an engaging original story, and that is overall as slick as greased weasel sh– on a door knob! What film am I speaking of, you may ask? Seriously? Did you really just ask that? Look up… yeah, see those words with all the fancy red and blue and the giant picture that preceded them? Holy cats! Ol’ Jeremy Berg, the creator of s–t hot new Sci-Fi thriller The Device (a review of which is comin’ soon to this very website, so begin tremblin’ in anticipation right now!) just stumbled on in to the Crypt o’ Xiii!
Famous Monsters. Ya took the brainy approach on The Device, while most flicks in the alien abduction vein tend to go a bit “o’er tha top”, so to speak. Did this cause you any static?
Jeremy Berg. I really wanted to tell a story that was driven by the characters. The genesis of the idea was a simple concept: two sisters find an object in the woods that may or may not be of earthly origin. It was very simple but had a lot of potential. From there, we could explore how this object changes the characters and their relationships with one another.
