We were more of less pushed by popular approval to develop this act. I met and married Leslie when we were both in rep at Darlington, and we always wanted to do a comedy act together, but we had to put it off for a long time. Leslie got on as a solo comedian and had to tour a lot, eventually reaching the Palladium; and I had to look after our baby daughter. Our chance came with a series of television shows with Henry Hall. We started doing sketches, and found that the audience liked our domestic scenes the best.
