SiriusXM unveiled an extensive rebrand and streamlined app today, with Howard Stern, Kevin Hart, Kelly Clarkson and other talent joining execs at a kickoff event in New York.
The redesigned streaming app will debut December 14 in North America, with in-car launch unfolding in the following months. The company also announced its Streaming All Access Plan would be priced at $9.99 a month, a discount to prior levels. Various in-vehicle price points will be announced in early 2024.
Stern, whose signing in 2004 represented the opening salvo in satellite radio’s bid for relevance, took the stage and delivered a characteristic few minutes of rumination. “I don’t color my hair!” he exclaimed. “I know you think I do, but I don’t.”
Moving on to his main reason for headlining the event, he recalled that prior to starting at Sirius in 2006, “I thought my career was over,” given his entanglements with the FCC.

In addition to the original tracklist in remixed/remastered form, the expanded edition also houses a plethora of bonus material, including unreleased recordings, live cuts, alternate mixes, video supplements (on the Blu-Ray version), and, most notably,...

There wasn’t a dry eye in the house when “The Masked Singer” unveiled a Hollywood icon as one of the two costumed vocalists departing at the start of season nine.
The game show’s guessing game returned, offering themed episodes and its usual assortment of mystery guests. Although the judges could have saved one of them, thanks to a new rule allowing one save per episode, they did not use that this week.
Spoiler Alert: Do Not Read Further If You Have Not Seen Tonight’S Show:
The night’s first reveal was the Gnome, whose performance of oldie but goodie “When You’re Smiling” fit his elfin face.
The Gnome turned out to be 97-year-old Dick Van Dyke. The judges guessed the masked singer might be Dustin Hoffman, Robert DeNiro, or Mel Brooks. But once Van Dyke was unmasked, the judges were beside themselves, with Nicole Scherzinger breaking into tears.

Spoiler Alert: Do not read ahead if you have not watched the Season 9 season premiere of “The Masked Singer,” which aired Feb. 15 on Fox.
“The Masked Singer” kicked off its Season 9 on Wednesday night with one of its biggest stars yet — and also its oldest. Entertainer icon Dick Van Dyke, 97, was the celebrity under the Gnome costume, and was the first reveal of the night. Later, country music artist Sara Evans was unmasked as the Mustang.
Van Dyke’s reveal reps the second season in a row where the first reveal came from a legend. In Season 8, “Monty Python” star Eric Idle and “Star Trek” mainstay William Shatner (who at 91 had previously been the oldest celebrity on the show) were revealed on night 1.
“It was the weirdest experience I think I’ve ever had,” Van Dyke said.
Van Dyke said he actually reached out to Idle when he first considered coming on “The Masked Singer.

The Lunar New Year is a time of feasting and family gatherings. It’s also a time for new movies. China’s Lunar New Year film rush is on par with the holiday film rush in the West, with dozens of premieres jockeying to be the season’s number one blockbuster. In the Chinese queue for this year are films like Donnie Yen’s Kung Fu fantasy Sakra, The Wandering Earth II, the prequel to China’s visionary 2019 sci-fi, and the eagerly anticipated action comedy, Everything Under Control.
It often takes a few months for new Chinese films to cross the pond to the West, and they seldom get theatrical showings. However, Western theaters are becoming increasingly aware of the drawing power of the Lunar New Year and have begun to showcase some special releases in honor of the holiday. The most important aspect of director James Gunn’s films, aside from gratuitous violence, family drama, and adorable space-critters, is a truly bangin’ soundtrack.
Gunn’s ear for the perfect diegetic pop hit extends all back to his mainstream debut in 2006’s Slither, but reached creative heights in his first Marvel Studios effort: 2014’s Guardians of the Galaxy. The soundtrack, dubbed Peter Quill’s “Awesome Mix Vol. 1” featured eclectic sounds from the ‘60s and ‘70s like Blue Swede’s “Hooked on a Feeling” and Five Stairsteps’ “O-o-h Child.” Gunn followed that soundtrack up with “Awesome Mix Vol. 2” in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 and another solid set of tunes for his first DC film The Suicide Squad.
With that in mind, music was always going to be a major factor in Peacemaker, the writer-director’s upcoming The Suicide Squad spinoff for HBO Max. Just how big, however, surprised maybe even Gunn,...

For a glorious period from the mid-80s throughout the 90s, the biggest summer blockbusters were only worth their salt if they had an equally gargantuan song at the head their soundtrack. Often the success of one was inexorably linked to the other, with the likes of Four Weddings And A Funeral's feats matched and even exceeded by Wet Wet Wet's accompanying Love Is All Around.
The greatest and most successful songs belong to the power ballad genre, and are as emotionally charged and forceful as the gods of epic balladry such as Journey, Whitesnake, Bon Jovi and Meat Loaf. As the 90s became the 00s and the charts became increasingly irrelevant, the movie ballad became almost defunct, with even the song-dominant film soundtrack being...

I know it’s folly to imagine “Songs of the ’80s” Night on American Idol without another no me gusta cover of Phil Collins’ “Against All Odds (Take A Look At Me Now),” or at least an extra notch in the belt of “Total Eclipse Of The Heart.” But you know me: An optimist to the core. It’s down to six groups on The Sing-Off, and on tonight’s episode (airing at 8/7 Central on NBC) the remaining acts will each perform two numbers: one classic rock song and one country tune. With so many urban-oriented groups left, this installment should be interesting to say the least. Here’s what you can expect to hear:
Opening Number: “Wake Up,” Arcade Fire
Classic Rock
Pentatonix: “Born to Be Wild,” Steppenwolf
Dartmouth Aires: “We’re Not Gonna Take It,” Twisted Sister
Afro-Blue: “American Girl,” Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers
Delilah: “Dream On,” Aerosmith
Urban Method: “Here I Go Again,” Whitesnake...

I’m just gonna say it… We Like To Party, but even we can’t party as hard as the Wolfpack! Alan, Stu and Phil are bringing the party back to theaters this Thursday with The Hangover Part II, so we thought, what better way to ring in the party than to count down our favorite party animals!
These are the cool kids that bring the party! They rage, they get down… heck, they might even get “jiggy wit it”! Sure, they might not be from the fluorescent box of crayons, but these folks can MacGyver a good time out of a paper clip, a broomstick and a Nelson cassette. (Yep, I said it!)
So, without further adeu…
Top Ten Party Animals Honorable Mention: Trent (Vince Vaughn) Swingers (1996)

Paul Giamatti is a utility guy -- you can do pretty much anything with him. The sad sack character actor and occasional lead has been many things in his movie career: Army Sergeant, ape, boxing manager, hit man, Santa Claus, President of the United States and at least two or three sad writers.
Now we can add "singer" to that repertoire.
Oh yes, Giamatti can sing, he's actually done it before in a smooth karaoke jam with Andre Braugher for 2000's "Duets." Now, as if he wasn't already legendary enough, he's hitting the big leagues playing opposite Tom Cruise in Adam Shankman's "Rock of Ages."
THR reports that Giamatti is in talks to play a slick L.A. music exec named Paul Gill (at least they won't have to change his monogrammed cufflinks) in the movie of the Broadway musical. Also being courted for a role is three-time Academy...

As I mentioned yesterday [1], I recently had the opportunity to speak with David O. Russell, who directed The Fighter, which was my favorite film of 2010 [2]. We chatted about a variety of topics, including themes of incest in his work, his musical choices, plus some of the other projects he's worked on in the past and will be working on in the future. Thanks to everyone who submitted awesome questions for this live Q&A! Russell seemed like an incredibly cool dude, who's had somewhat of a rough time of it in Hollywood until recently. I wish him the best on his next projects. Below is the audio of our conversation. Hit the jump for the full transcript, which has been edited for clarity. Russell, thanks so much for joining us today on the Slashfilmcast and congratulations on [your recent] nominations.

With Mark Wahlberg, Christian Bale, Melissa Leo and Amy Adams; directed by David O. Russell
By Kevin Bowen - December 18, 2010
I once referred to Christian Bale as The Actor Most Likely To Tick Off His Wife By Staying In Character Over Dinner.
Shortly thereafter, to my amusement, I read an article in which Bale admitted this was true, that his method actor’s commitment sometimes got on his wife’s nerves. With that in mind, Bale’s role as a crack-addicted ex-boxer in “The Fighter” must have been a rough few months for Mrs. Bale.
For the mainstream audiences that equate Bale with the stoic anti-hero of Christopher Nolan’s “Batman” movies, Bale’s smoking-fuse performance in “The Fighter” could open eyes. This is the first film with popular aspirations in which Bale completely submerges into an edgy character. He lost weight to create a gaunt and wasting appearance, and...

The Fighter
Directed by: David O. Russell
Cast: Mark Wahlberg, Christian Bale, Melissa Leo, Amy Adams
Running Time: 1 hr 50 mins
Rating: R
Release Date: December 17, 2010 (Limited)
Plot: The story of two boxing brothers from Lowell, Massachusetts, Micky Ward and Dick Eklund, and their personal struggles to retain their status as “The Pride of Lowell.”
Who’S It For? This boxing movie has the ability to please non-fans of the sport just as much as those who actually follow the sport. Most importantly, anybody that has ever been wrapped up by a Christian Bale performance should check this one out. For those looking at what films to check out for award season, The Fighter has now been put on that list.
Expectations: How would the accents be handled? More importantly, how would this boxing movie be different from other boxing movies? Would Bale’s performance fit into my list of “Top...

Directed by: David O. Russell
Cast: Mark Wahlberg, Christian Bale, Melissa Leo, Amy Adams
Running Time: 1 hr 50 mins
Rating: R
Release Date: December 17, 2010 (Limited)
Plot: Based on a true story, struggling boxer “Irish” Micky Ward (Wahlberg) attempts to give it a real shot, but his brother (Bale) who helps train him, is dealing with his own demons.
Who’S It For? This is a film that will be nominated for awards. It’s a drama with some dysfunctional comedy from the Irish family. It’s not a hardcore sports movie, but you’ll get caught up in the action.
Expectations: I heard great things about Bale’s performance, then again both Brad Pitt and Matt Damon were rumored for that part, so it’s been around. In general, I trust Russell, Bale and Adams. Wahlberg is hit (The Departed) and miss (The Happening).

It’s karaoke at its finest, this. The vast majority of these 40 songs are guaranteed to get people up and singing, and what we have here is a collection of party favourites. The only downside to this game is that it doesn’t come bundled with a microphone – you’ll need to buy it separately – but as far as the choice of songs goes, you can’t really go wrong if you are looking to get your mates all singing together. The track listing is as follows... · What's Up - 4 Non Blondes · Black Velvet - Alannah Myles · Rehab - Amy Winehouse · Doctor Jones - Aqua · Love Shack - The B-52's · Let's Get It Started - Black Eyed Peas · Word Up - Cameo · Tubthumping - Chumbawamba · Rhythm Of The Night - DeBarge · Groove Is In The Heart - Deee-Lite · I Touch Myself - Divinyls · American Pie - Don McLean · Son...
