Actor Janet Montgomery (“This is Us”) and producer Tricia Small (“Salem”) have teamed with Blackbox Multimedia on a female-led period crime drama written by “Dracula” scribe Cole Haddon, Variety can reveal.
Billed as a female version of The Godfather trilogy, “Aqua Tofana” was co-created by Montgomery and Small, who will also executive produce the high-end television series, which is set is 17th-century Italy. Haddon is billed as co-creator and writer.
“Aqua Tofana” will follow Tofiana, Giulia and Girolama – three generations of women from the same family – accused of killing over 600 men with a “discreet and deadly” poison: Aqua Tofana.
“A recipe handed down from mother to daughter, generation to generation,” reads the logline. “Disguised as a cosmetic and discreetly sold to women looking to escape violent relationships and oppressive marriages, the business operated with tremendous success. But as the poison grew in popularity, its original intentions – to emancipate women – became...

Tricia Small bagged a Huge chunk of change for her very cool Malibu house. The "Salem" executive producer unloaded the dream home for $3.45 mil. It was a long time in coming ... it's been listed for a year at $3.65M. The buyer will have room to stretch ... 4 bedrooms, including a luxurious master, spa bath and steam shower blanketed with Calcutta gold marble. And there's a chef's kitchen with a restaurant-grade Viking range and a 750 bottle wine cellar.

We first told you about Wgn America‘s first venture into original scripted TV, Salem, back in June. Production began in earnest in November, and now we have the first TV spot, featuring the voice of wonderful Seth Gabel (Fringe, Arrow) as Cotton Mather, sounding appropriately judgmental, according to my graduate studies back in the day.
The witches in the spot, however, take “historically accurate” and dump it straight into the lake. Excellent!
TV Spot: Salem
For more details, check out the press release from when production began last month:
