It is absolutely unbelievable, but we've almost reached the end of Grey's Anatomy's twentieth season.
This week, tons of excitement is happening at Grey Sloan as the writers get us ready for next week's season finale.
Catherine has discovered the truth about what Meredith has been up to, and she's out for blood on Grey's Anatomy Season 20 Episode 9.
This week was pretty fast-paced, which was a nice change after a few slower episodes that focused more on surgical cases than character development.
The first big reveal of the hour was the return of Maggie Pierce, a divisive character the likes of whom we haven't seen in about a year.
People have strong feelings about this character and how she fits into the Grey's Anatomy universe, but I have always loved her.
I'll always be a sucker for the way the writers tied Meredith, Maggie, and Amelia together into a sisterhood,...

Is “Grey’s Anatomy” on tonight? Yes. ABC’s long-running medical drama airs its 429th episode, titled “I Carry Your Heart,” on Thursday night. Here is the official synopsis: “Just as Amelia comes to a realization, Teddy encourages her and Meredith to speed up their Alzheimer’s research over fear of Catherine finding out; Mika finds herself caught in the middle of Link and Jo; Lucas receives bad news.” Watch the promo video above for Season 20 Episode 9, and read on for everything to know about “Grey’s Anatomy.”
Note that the new season was delayed until mid-season due to the writers’ and actors’ strikes of 2023. Because of the late start, the 20th season will be the shortest since the first season with only 10 episodes total. Behind the scenes, Meg Marinis has taken over as showrunner from Krista Vernoff, who departed after Season 19.

One of the most popular medical television series, Grey's Anatomy, already has 20 seasons. In 2019, it broke the duration record previously set by ER – 427 episodes against 332. More than three thousand actors have already participated in the show, not many of them are remembered by the viewers, but there is one character who died back in season 11, but is still loved by fans – Dr. Derek Shepherd.
Why Did Patrick Dempsey Leave Grey's Anatomy?
Grey's Anatomy was left without everyone's favorite Dr. Shepherd after Patrick Dempsey had a falling out with showrunner Shonda Rhimes. As it turns out, Dempsey had been complaining about his character's storyline for a long time, implying that he didn't have enough screen time.
The situation was aggravated by the fact that the actor cheated on his wife with one of the assistant producers of Grey's Anatomy. Their affair added to the tension on the set, as many of Dempsey's co-stars knew his wife.

Twenty years is a long time -- for a relationship or a TV series like Grey's Anatomy. Just when you think there's nothing more to do, surprise!
Fans continue to tune into Grey's every season for the latest medical cases, relationship drama, and robust storytelling.
We don't get as much Meredith these days, but there is still enough to satisfy viewers, including the relationship mishaps with her new love interest.
While the show doesn't have the same pizzazz and character compatibility as it did in the early years, there is plenty of relationship messiness to entice fans.
But no matter how great -- or bad -- things get at Gsm, some relationships have happened in the last 20 years that fans will never forget. And some never got the ending they deserve.
Here is a list of our favorite on-screen Grey's Anatomy 'ships of all time.

Don’t expect to see Sandra Oh back on Grey’s Anatomy anytime soon.
The hit ABC medical drama has brought back some of it’s Og stars throughout the years, including Patrick Dempsey and Kate Walsh, who play exes Derek Shepherd and Addison Montgomery, making appearances in recent seasons.
There are currently, still only two original cast members left on the show in a full-time capacity – Chandra Wilson and James Pickens Jr. Ellen Pompeo exited the series as a full-time series regular, though she will still provide voiceovers for the show.
While stepping out at the premiere of her new HBO series The Sympathizer, Sandra was asked about the possibility of her returning to Grey’s Anatomy.

It took a surgeon’s scalpel to excise the must-see episodes out of the 420 that Grey’s Anatomy has aired. But you don’t have to stop with these: Hulu now carries the run of the medical drama, plus new episodes starting March 15, the day after they air on ABC. 1. “A Hard Day’s Night” (Season 1 Episode 1) The first shift at Seattle Grace for surgical interns Meredith Grey (Ellen Pompeo), Cristina Yang (Sandra Oh), George O’Malley (T.R. Knight), Alex Karev (Justin Chambers) and Izzie Stevens (Katherine Heigl) sets the tone for the instantly addictive series. The hour is marked by competition, anxiety, lust and bad decisions—like Meredith unwittingly bedding her new boss, skilled neurosurgeon Derek Shepherd (Patrick Dempsey). 2. “As We Know It” (Season 2 Episode 17) Everett Collection This iconic conclusion of a nail-biting two-parter finds Meredith with her hand inside a patient’s chest cavity, trying to stem his bleeding and keep an embedded explosive from detonating.

“How long do I have to wait?” Meredith asks at the start of the 60-second promo. Are you ready to celebrate, Grey's Anatomy Fanatics?
We have some exciting news about one of the show's most familiar faces, and truthfully, it's something we thought would have happened years ago.
People magazine has crowned Patrick Dempsey as the Sexiest Man Alive this year, and we're very excited about it.
Dempsey made hearts race for 11 seasons of Grey's Anatomy in the role of Derek Shepherd, starring opposite Ellen Pompeo.
The well-known actor and race car driver succeeds 2022 recipient Chris Evans.
"I'm glad it's happening at this point in my life," the 57-year-old actor told the magazine about securing the honor.
"It's nice to have the recognition, and certainly my ego takes a little bump, but it gives me the platform to use it for something positive."

“It’s just a show,” is the common response from someone seeing a person crying at the death of a fictional person on screen. But TV acolytes will know that it can be hard to rein in the emotions when your favourite character for the past seven years has just been killed off.
In the battle of TV versus cinema, the former has always packed more of a punch when it comes to impactful deaths – probably because we’ve come to know the character better over a longer period of time. And when someone who you’ve grown used to seeing day-in and day-out suddenly vanishes from your life forever, there are going to be some emotional ramifications.
Sometimes, in the saddest of circumstances, the demise of a character even marks the demise of the show itself, with creators and writers failing to keep us interested beyond their death blow.

Meredith Grey is losing another family member.
As reported by our sister site Deadline, Kelly McCreary is leaving “Grey’s Anatomy” during the upcoming April 13 episode. For those keeping track at home, that will be the show’s 414th episode (!) overall. McCreary played Maggie Pierce, the sister of Meredith Grey (Ellen Pompeo), for nine seasons on ABC’s medical drama after initially debuting in the two-part Season 10 finale in 2014. Read the actress’ full statement below, in which she declares, “It has been a tremendous honor.”
McCreary’s exit will likely be connected to Maggie’s recent marriage troubles with Winston Ndugu (Anthony Hill), a storyline that has dominated this 19th season. Prior to this year, Maggie and Winston were one of the show’s power couples who memorably got married in a beautiful beach setting at the end of Season 17, aka the dreaded “Covid season.”

Spoiler Alert: This essay contains spoilers from “I’ll Follow the Sun,” the Feb. 23 episode of “Grey’s Anatomy.”
From her first episode as Dr. Meredith Grey on March 27, 2005 — when “Grey’s Anatomy” premiered on ABC and became a once-in-a-generation pop-culture sensation — to what’s being billed as a goodbye episode on Feb. 23, 2023, Ellen Pompeo could forge chemistry with anyone. Along with its lexicon-changing writing and intricate yet rowdy plotting by Shonda Rhimes, what’s made “Grey’s Anatomy” a phenomenon was watching Meredith just live her life. She was a character network television never seen before: a brilliant woman whose life had been marred by tragedy, yet who wasn’t going to let her dark and twisty past get in her way. Meredith had a lot of fun; she saved a lot of lives; she had a lot of sex.
And it was her relationships that made “Grey’s Anatomy” stand out at first.

Since Grey’s Anatomy first premiered in 2005, it has aired 19 seasons, 406 episodes, and birthed 3 spinoffs. Naturally the show has had to adapt as cast members come and go throughout the years. This sometimes makes it hard to recall what exactly went on in season 1. Although who can forget Addison Montgomery (then Shepherd) saying the iconic line, “I’m Addison Shepherd … and you must be the woman who’s been screwing my husband.”
With every new intern class that Grey’s introduces viewers to, it always throws in a few Easter eggs to remind fans what made them fall in love with the show in the first place. Patrick Dempsey is in talks with Spyglass to star in “Thanksgiving,” multiple media outlets have reported.
Yes, that’s Eli Roth’s “Thanksgiving,” a violent slasher film based on the fake trailer from Quentin Tarantino and Robert Rodriguez’s double feature “Grindhouse” from 16 years ago.
Chatter has existed about turning the jokey trailer into an actual movie, with Roth having written a screenplay over a dozen years ago. Fantasy became fact when Spyglass stepped in late last year to finance the picture, with shooting to begin in Toronto next month.
While plot details are mostly concealed, it is believed that Dempsey would play a small-town sheriff in Massachusetts who must fend off a holiday-specific murder spree.

“She’s leaving the show. I don’t know if you heard, she got caught stealing Band-Aids from the set,” comedian Jimmy Kimmel told Dempsey on Thursday’s “Jimmy Kimmel Live!”.
“Did she really? Finally, they caught her,” Dempsey quipped of Pompeo, adding, “Can you imagine what she’d have in her house now from 19 seasons? A full hospital.”
Dempsey, who exited the show in 2015 after 12 seasons of playing Dr. Derek Shepherd, discussed the impact of the Shonda Rhimes series.
“It’s amazing, the power of that show and how long it’s lasted and the impact it’s had around the world,” he said. “It’s changed my...

Spoiler alert: Don’t read if you’re yet to see the “Grey’s Anatomy” fall finale.
“Grey’s Anatomy”s fall finale was not for the faint of heart. On Thursday’s episode, Dr. Meredith Grey’s (Ellen Pompeo) house went out in flames during a lightning storm, likely destroying the home she shared with her late husband, Dr. Derek Shepherd (Patrick Dempsey).
The devastating moment happened when lightning struck the house with Maggie (Kelly McCreary), Winston (Anthony HiIl) and Meredith’s kids inside.
“It’s just stuff,” Meredith told her kids, as they watched their belongings go up in flames. The only material item to make it through the fire was the Post-It note on which Meredith and Derek got married all those years ago.

Let’s rewind back to the beginning, as all good romcoms do. The year is 2014, and How I Met Your Mother just alienated a majority of its fanbase with one of the most divisive endings in TV history: series schmuck Ted Mosby (Josh Radnor) rekindling the flame with his best friend and on-again-off-again love interest Robin Scherbatsky (Cobie Smulders). As Ted rocked up to Robin’s apartment with the iconic blue French horn he had stolen years ago, to lovingly commemorate their first date, she tearfully conceded. While many have condemned the finale, claiming Ted and Robin were never meant to be, I was – and still remain – its fiercest defender. This idea that “the one” would always come back, no matter what, made 17-year-old me fall in love with the concept of love. Or at least TV’s idealised, butterflies-in-the-tummy version of it.

In the pilot episode of “Grey’s Anatomy,” Meredith Grey (Ellen Pompeo) wakes up next to Derek Shepherd (Patrick Dempsey) in her living room after a night of hooking up. Meredith frantically gets up to head to her first day of work at Seattle Grace Hospital. Little does she know that Derek is essentially her boss. Creator Shonda Rhimes revealed on the “9 to 5ish with theSkimm” podcast (via Insider) that a room full of old male television executives gave her a hard time for starting her show this way.
“I remember getting called into a room full of old men and they brought us in to tell me that the show was a problem because nobody was gonna watch a show about a woman who would sleep with a man the night before her first day of work,” Rhimes said. “And they were dead serious.”

Don’t get too excited, Addison Montgomery fans, but Shonda Rhimes misses the Oceanside Wellness Group as much as you do.
While promoting her new Bridgerton book this week, the uber-producer told Good Morning America that she wouldn’t mind revisiting Private Practice. She was asked by the hosts to name one of her popular shows from ABC that she’d love to bring back.
“I miss my Scandal family so badly that I would come back with them at any point, but I actually feel like we didn’t finish telling our stories on Private Practice,” Rhimes said. “We had so many more stories we could tell … I just felt like we had so much more to say with those characters and so much further to go, and that also felt like a show that had endless possibility where you are learning and seeing things happen at the same things happen medically.

Grey's Anatomy is one of the most popular shows on TV, even 17 years after its premiere.
Series creator Shonda Rhimes is speaking out about executives who told her and producing partner Betsy Beers that the show would fail to reach any form of success.
"It feels really obvious now, I think, but at the time, you have to remember, there had never been a show in which there was a lead character who owned her sexuality on network television," Rhimes said in a preview of Tuesday's 9 to 5ish with the Skimm podcast, E! News reports.
On Grey's Anatomy Season 1 Episode 1, Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) slept with Derek Shepherd (Patrick Dempsey), a man who she later found was working in the same hospital on the ABC series.

Meredith Grey has romanced her fair share on doctors on "Grey's Anatomy" over the past 18 seasons, but in real life, actor Ellen Pompeo only has one man in her life. She and her husband, Chris Ivery, have been married for nearly 15 years, and together they share three children: 13-year-old Stella Luna, 8-year-old Sienna May, and 5-year-old Eli Christopher. Though Pompeo loves sharing pics of her kids, she's pretty tight-lipped about Avery, and since he's not on social media, he's a bit of a mystery. Check out the gallery for everything we do know about Pompeo's husband.
