One of the questions raised by our story yesterday--How Neuromarketers Tapped the Vote Button in Your Brain to Help the Gop Win the House--is how, exactly, neuromarketing works. Darryl Howard, the founder of Attractor Pattern Research and a consultant for two Republican winners in this week's elections, agreed to share specific examples of his work, which you'll see below.
But what is neuromarketing? You've probably had the experience of watching an ad and unexpectedly getting choked up -- or, in the case of campaign ads, feeling the sudden need to take a shower. Neuromarketers measure the way your brain and body responds to these messages, then reverse-engineers the effect into another message.
But even experts and consultants in the field differ about what qualifies as neuromarketing. Some believe that the term only applies to tests done while subjects are wired up to Mri or Eeg machines while a scientist studies the resulting brain activity.

Who would you elect as our most tech-savvy politician? Our tweeter-in-chief Barack Obama? Think again.
Arizona senator (and 73-year old senior statesman) John McCain has the highest "Digital Iq" in the Senate according to a new joint study by George Washington University and Nyu. John McCain. The guy who can't remember how many houses he owns. That One.
In what Gw and Nyu are calling the "definitive benchmark for online competence," researchers combed through politicians' social media accounts, and calculated their Digital Iq based on the frequency of their YouTube, Twitter, and Facebook use and popularity.
If John McCain has the highest Digital Iq, what does that say about the rest of the Senate? Politicians are notorious for their blunders and ignorance of all things tech-related, and this study--while not exactly using the most scientific metrics to determine tech-savviness--may just be a blunder in itself. Here we present our top...

In the wake of the death of former U.S. senator Ted Stevens (R-ak), we, like many others, began to wonder how his deadly plane crash would affect Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport, which was named after him in 2000. Certainly no one would fault the airport for wanting to dissociate itself from a passenger who died in a tragic plane crash. As of now, however, there appear to be no plans to change the name.

Former Senator Theodore Fulton Stevens and four others died in a plane crash August 9, 2010 in southwest Alaska. Stevens was the Senate's longest serving Republican, with a political career that spanned from 1961 to 2008. He helped make Alaska the 49th state, and pushed for the construction of bridges, rural water systems, military bases, the trans-Alaskan pipeline, and more in order to improve and lay a foundation for the state. He was considered a great Alaskan, and a formidable political opponent.
Yes, but why are we mentioning a politician here?
Stevens was a fan of Marvel's green powerhouse, the Incredible Hulk. When he faced his toughest challenges, he donned an Incredible Hulk tie to show he meant business. Former Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist said, "When I see the Hulk tie on Ted Stevens, I know he's pumped up." In response, Marvel sent Stevens Hulk paraphernalia and threw him a Hulk-themed party. Stevens...

The status of former Nasa chief Sean O'Keefe, who was also on the flight, is still unknown. The private plane crashed near Dillingham, Alaska, Monday night (Aug. 9) in a rugged stretch of Alaskan terrain, roughly 350 miles southwest of Anchorage as the crow flies.
A spokesman for the Alaska Air National Guard said rescue crews were working to get at least three survivors away from the scene, but it's possible there are more survivors.
Stevens leaves behind a wife, Catherine, and six children. In a an eerie coincidence, his first wife Ann was killed in a plane crash in 1978. Stevens was a survivor of that crash. Stevens and Ann had five children (Ben, Walter, Ted, Susan and Beth) and Stevens and Catherine had one daughter, Lily.

Former Republican Senator Ted Stevens of Alaska (pictured with daughters Beth, left, and Lily) may have been on-board a plane that crashed in Alaska, killing five people. Stevens' chief of staff Mitch Rose tells CNN that they still cannot confirm the reports. His family is offering their thanks for everyone's prayers and is offering their own prayers for the families of the victims. The plane was also carrying former Nasa chief Sean O'Keefe. There is no word as to his condition yet.

With very little news sources at the avail of various media outlets, Fox News turned to former Governor (and current Fox News analyst) Sarah Palin, who understandably demonstrated great expertise in her knowledge of Alaska and the airplane involved in the fist on-air report from Alaska.
