After last week's brilliant "rack of ribs in the pants" robbery attempt, we knew it was only a matter of time before copycat crimes starting popping up. And just like in "The Dark Knight," escalation has hit the world of crime -- in this case, trouser crime.
Nathan Mark Hardy, a Biloxi, Miss. resident, was arrested after allegedly being caught with two lobster tails and two bags of jumbo shrimp concealed in his pants. According to police chief Wayne Payne, Hardy attemped to rob a Winn-Dixie when he was confronted by an employee. Hardy also was concealing a pork loin in his pants but threw the loin at the employee as his means of escape; the police caught Hardy with only the seafood near his nether-region.
Weirdly enough, Hardy is listed a resident of Wisteria Lane in Biloxi. We sense an elaborate "Desperate Housewives" viral promo campaign. Also, we'd like...

Alice in Wonderland by Rebecca Grant, 15
Tim Burton has snatched the beautifully eccentric odyssey that we once lovingly knew as Alice's Adventures in Wonderland, wrung it dry of anything resembling the endearingly capricious originality of the children's classic, and slung the disgusting dregs into a pretentious, Disneyfied quest movie replete with, frankly, un-special effects.
Burton's insistence that his film was not a re-imagining or sequel to other "Alice movies" made me wonder whether he had actually read the book at all. Nineteen-year-old Alice, played by the apparently tranquilised Mia Wasikowska, spends a disproportionate amount of time at the beginning of the movie prancing around in a tediously twee caricature of Victorian high society. When the dopey antagonist finally wiggles her way into Wonderland, we are ambushed by the White Rabbit, the Dormouse, the Dodo, Tweedledum and Tweedledee all at once,...

From demolishing Alice in Wonderland to deciphering Macbeth, our young readers bowled over the judges with their wit
Fresh bands, young directors, hot new actors and artists straight out of college are the lifeblood of the arts. And, to ensure that criticism doesn't get stale, it's essential that their generation is represented in our reviewers. The Guardian's annual young critics competition is designed to ensure that arts criticism can reflect the voices of a younger arts audience. That said, youth alone is not enough. These days, it's easier than ever to find a platform on which to voice your opinions – by blogging, tweeting, or posting on comment threads – but with all that competition, it's more essential than ever that you have something worthwhile to say.
The entries confirmed that there are 10-18-year-olds out there with perceptive, funny things to convey about subjects ranging from the Selfridges building in Birmingham to tattooed La rockers Buckcherry.

An L.A. Kings hockey player turned coach was arrested today for reportedly sexually abusing his 21-year-old daughter.
Mark Hardy, 51, is in custody after his 21-year-old daughter told cops that her father "put his hand down [her] shorts and touched her genital area without her permission."
TMZ reports that Hardy -- who has been an assistant coach for the Kings since 2008 -- was arrested at the Mayflower Hotel in D.C. -- where the alleged incident occurred early Friday (May 21) morning.
He'll see a judge later today on the charge of misdemeanor sexual abuse. Misdemeanor? We'd call this more than just a foul.
