Dana White was not always the CEO and president of the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC). He started running boxercise gyms in Boston with Golden Gloves champion Peter Welch. He moved to Las Vegas in the 1990s. In addition to running boxercise gyms, he also began training jiu-jitsu under the tutorship of John Lewis.
When White found out that the owner of the former parent company which owned UFC was interested in selling the company, he convinced Lorenzo Fertitta and his brother to invest in the company. In 2001, the former manager of mixed martial artists Tito Ortiz and Chuck Liddell became the president of UFC.
White started to build UFC from scratch and made it one of the highest-grossing businesses. Besides playing a major role in shaping the world of mixed martial arts, he is also known for his extravagant lifestyle.

When Paul James opened Uncle Paulie’s Deli in L.A. almost six years ago, he never imagined one day he’d be getting his own sandwich shop in a Las Vegas casino.
Certainly the idea of opening up in southwest Las Vegas — at least 15 minutes from the Strip — didn’t cross his mind. But now thanks to the innovative new food hall, Eat Your Heart Out, to debut at Durango Resort this fall, several West Coast fast-casual favorites with cachet are now living the desert dream.
“When the opportunity came to meet with Station Casinos, they told me about [their new] neighborhood casino. It was a perfect fit,” says James, adding that one of Uncle Paulie’s business philosophies is, “We’re from the neighborhood, for the neighborhood.”

The new TBS show Power Slap: Road to the Title is generating controversy on social media because its sole premise is to watch men and women slap each other – sometimes to the point of unconsciousness.
A video tweet by Dr. Chris Nowinski, a neuroscientist and founder of the Concussion Legacy Foundation, has garnered more than 15 million views after showing a particularly disturbing moment from show, hosted and created by UFC president Dana White. In the first few minutes of the program that debuted Wednesday, a contestant named Chris Kennedy is literally knocked to the ground after the first slap by opponent Chris Thomas. It takes a few beats before Kennedy, who shows the tell tale signs of a concussion by clenching his arms and fists, regains consciousness after hearing a doctor tell him what happened.
“Got knocked out doing what, was I fighting?” replies Kennedy.
“This is so sad,” Nowinski tweets.

TBS has pushed back the premiere of Dana White’s Power Slap: Road to the Title by one week after the UFC president admitted to an instance of domestic violence on New Year’s Eve.
The show, which is based on a slapping league created in partnership with Ultimate Fighting Championship and Endeavor, will now premiere on Jan. 18, rather than the originally scheduled date of Jan. 11, a spokesperson for TBS said Thursday. The spokesperson affirmed the new premiere date, amid rumors that the show had been shelved.
The delayed premiere follows an incident reported by TMZ, in which a video appeared to show White slapping his wife, Anne, after she had hit him at a night club in Mexico. White later released a statement to TMZ apologizing for the incident, as did his wife.

TBS hasn’t yet pulled the plug on UFC president Dana White’s upcoming reality series, “Power Slap: Road To The Title.” Though, it has been rescheduled to premiere at a later date after a video showing White slapping his wife over the holidays made its way onto the internet.
Originally slated to air on Jan. 11, the show is now expected to arrive on Jan. 18. In the meantime, the network plans to fill the programming slot with reruns of “Young Sheldon.”
The series follows over 30 athletes as they compete for a spot in the new Power Slap league and, ultimately, a shot at victory in the first title fight. Created by White, Lorenzo Fertitta and Craig Piligian, the sports league focuses on open-handed hitting.
Pilgrim Media Group, a division of Lionsgate, is the studio behind the eight-part series with Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) and Endeavor behind the creation.

“Power Slap: Road to the Title,” a TBS reality series following the titular sports league and its founder, Dana White, has pushed its premiere back a week following a public slap between White and his wife, IndieWire has confirmed.
The series will now premiere its first episode January 18, after originally scheduled to air January 11.
During New Year’s Eve, White was filmed fighting with his wife, Anne White, at the Cabo San Lucas nightclub in Mexico. In the video, which TMZ published, Anne White can be seen slapping her husband before he slaps her in retaliation, leading to a series of blows between them.
White, who is best known as the president of the Ultimate Fighting Championship company, issued an apology to TMZ shortly after the video leaked.

Endeavor President Market Shapiro said the newly public company has a cleaner, clearer story to tell Wall Street compared with its first IPO try in 2019.
It is starting its new chapter with a portfolio of assets poised to reap major benefits, the exec told Deadline, as Covid-19 retreats and cash flow from a wholly owned UFC helps it pay down debt.
As of Thursday morning, Endeavor Group Holdings trades on the New York Stock Exchange. It’s a second attempt at going public. The first was in the midst of a battle with the Writers Guild of America, and without as big of a bang from UFC, of which the company then had only a piece. Today’s offering was concurrent with a buy-in of the rest of franchise that Endeavor didn’t already own.

Ex-Ufc owner Lorenzo Fertitta is ready to be the boss man once again ... telling TMZ Sports he's officially gunning to buy an NFL team! "Always wanted to do that," Fertitta says. Lorenzo and his brother Frank sold their shares of the Ufc back in 2016 as part of that $4 Billion deal with Wme-Img ... and he tells us he's now trying to invest some of those profits into a pro football team in the very near future.

It's over ... Ufc legend Georges St-Pierre just officially announced his retirement from mixed martial arts -- saying, "It takes a lot of discipline, though, to retire on top." The 37-year-old is widely considered one of the greatest Ufc fighters of all time -- some say the best -- racking up a 26-2 record and 3 Ufc titles in his 17-year career in the Octagon. Never one to shy away from a bold proclamation, Ufc president Dana White boasted last month that the $1.5 billion pact he struck in May with ESPN to make his mixed-martial arts outfit its new TV home has contributed to boosting the company’s valuation to $7 billion. That’s nearly double the $4 billion price tag that Endeavor (then Wme-img) and its investment partners ponied up in 2016 to buy Ufc.
But White’s calculations may not factor in indicators that Ufc’s popularity has been cooling off in recent years. While he has hyped the Oct. 6 Ufc 229 event featuring the return of Mma star Conor McGregor as its biggest yet — predicting over 2 million pay-per-view buys — PPV numbers for 2018 have lagged well behind the buy rate the Ufc enjoyed in 2016.

Updated with official confirmation and additional details. ESPN, which last month set a streaming deal with the Ufc, confirmed it has added linear TV rights to that package, with a major five-year pact that ends the circuit’s seven-year run on Fox Sports.
The official announcement did not specify terms, but sources confirmed to Deadline earlier today that the Ufc would get $300 million a year in a five-year deal starting in January — double what Fox paid on an average annual basis. Endeavor, which led the $4 billion acquisition of the Ufc in 2016, had been in talks with a range of suitors, including Fox. The streaming rights acquired by ESPN+, the newly launched streaming service, came in at $150 million a year.
Ratings have been declining lately for the Ufc, but its backers call that a cyclical trend and point out its appeal to young male viewers, a prime target for many advertisers.

Brock Lesnar received a late final offer from the Ufc before re-signing with the WWE this week. In comments to the Associated Press, Lesnar revealed that the Ufc had offered ten times what he had made in his previous Mma tenure.
This would have made the Ufc deal far more valuable than the WWE deal. Brock would have made as much money for a Ufc fight as he would have made in an entire year of WWE work. If he was to compete two times a year in the Ufc, he would have been significantly better off.
But Lesnar’s decision was already made, he didn’t want to endure the gruelling process of training for a fight. The WWE deal was still good money and it offered him a far easier and much less physically demanding work load.

Cm Punk is now a Ufc fighter. The former WWE superstar was signed to a deal in late October, following months of on-and-off informal talks with Ufc President Dana White and Ufc owner Lorenzo Fertitta. At Ufc 181, the announcement was made official – Cm Punk will fight for Ufc in 2015.
Punk’s real name is Phil Brooks and he’s 36 years old. He’s got some basic jiu jitsu experience, but that’s it. In that respect, he’s a gamble for the Ufc, as he has no real athletic background. He’s old for an Mma fighter and has a record of 0-0, which is in stark contrast to Ufc’s usual requirement of three pro fights before signing fighters.
The reason this deal got done, is because Brooks is a passionate Mma fan. He’s friends with Dana White and essentially got fast tracked.

The Ufc today announced a six year partnership with Reebok to provide fighter uniforms. As the official commercial outfitter to Ufc, Reebok are going to be very visible from July 6th 2015 when the deal starts.
Ufc CEO Lorenzo Fertitta describes it as “the biggest non-broadcast partnership our company has ever signed.”
However, the deal means that fighters will no longer be able to wear independent sponsors on their gear. That’s being seen as controversial in some circles, as these sponsors have long proved valuable to Mma fighter’s incomes.
To offset this, Ufc President Dana White told Espn.com “initial profits from the rights agreement will go directly to the approximately 500 rostered athletes.”
The money will be paid based on fighter rankings. Fighters can also earn royalties based on merchandise selling with their name or likeness, similar to how WWE wrestlers earn money on merchandise sales. Outside of...

Toronto -- Looking to muscle his way into Ontario, Ultimate Fighting Championship (Ufc) president Dana White has opened an office in Toronto, and named former Canadian Football League commissioner Tom Wright to head up UFC Canada as president and top lobbyist.
"This market is so important to us, it's time we opened an office here," White and Ufc co-owner Lorenzo Fertitta told a press conference in Toronto.
"To not have a market here is insane," he added.
The Ufc already does 17% of its new media and pay-per-view TV business in Canada. The stumbling block is the Ufc remains persona non grata in Ontario, Canada's biggest TV market, as the province considers the Mma sport as prize fighting, and so banned under the federal criminal code.
Individual provinces can exempt boxing and Mma events and sanction those sports.
Quebec, British Columbia and Alberta did as much in allowing Mma events in their backyard.
