American Film Institute alum Melina Matsoukas will deliver the keynote address at the AFI Directing Workshop for Women Showcase for the Class of 2024. The showcase will be held on April 10 at the Directors Guild of America in Los Angeles.
The Directing Workshop for Women Program helps to educates traditionally underrepresented filmmakers through the production cycle of a short film, providing hands-on instruction led by industry experts. Launched in 1974, the tuition-free program provides women with the opportunity to further their careers in the entertainment industry.
The showcase provides an opportunity for the graduating cohort to premiere their short films to an audience of agency and studio representatives, as well as other artists from the creative community.

Four recipients will receive $25,000 grant from Stella Artois.
Women In Film, Los Angeles has announced the recipients of the 32nd annual Film Finishing Fund.
16 grantees were chosen from 370 feature-length narrative films, documentaries and shorts, submitted from 22 countries.
The Film Finishing Fund provides cash grants and in-kind production services to complete films that are by, for or about women. The works-in-progress are viewed by a special jury of women in the industry who select the winning films.
Wif executive director Kirsten Schaffer said: “One of the ways we achieve gender parity, is by ensuring that female filmmakers have the resources they need to produce excellent work. Women In Film is enormously proud that for 31 years we have enabled talented filmmakers to complete their films and bring their remarkable stories to the world.”

The 43rd Seattle International Film Festival has selected the participants for its inaugural New Works-In-Progress Forum.
The new initiative is designed to nurture emerging voices in world cinema by connecting the announced groups with industry veterans.
The documentary film teams chosen for the event are: Jordan Schiele’s The Silk And The Flame (China/USA), and Maximilien Van Aertyck and Axel Danielson of Plattform Produktion presenting Cecilia Björk’s A Good Week For Democracy (Sweden) and Hemen Kurda’s Children Of Arbat (Sweden).

Barry Jenkins’ Moonlight (pictured) won a record four awards at the Independent Filmmaker Project Gotham Independent Film Awards in New York on Monday.
The acclaimed drama, which last week got six Film Independent Spirit Award nominations, won the Gotham Award for best feature and its script, with a story by Tarell Alvin McCraney and a screenplay by Jenkins, won in the screenplay category.
