Each season of The Bachelor is a magnet for controversy. This is usually a goal for the show’s producers. Like every other reality show, it thrives on viewers getting so invested in the competition that they root for particular people to win or lose.
But the 27th edition of The Bachelor involves a hot take that won’t create better ratings: This season’s lead Zach Shallcross is too boring to carry the show. A popular podcast run by members of Bachelor Nation has gone as far as to pull back on their coverage of the show because of their apathy toward Shallcross.

“Bachelor” fans are getting another show to obsess about.
ABC has ordered a new addition in the Bachelor Nation catalogue, titled “The Bachelor: Listen to Your Heart.” The network has set an April 13 premiere date for the music-centric show.
The new series will “unite music and love,” as 20 single men and women embark on a journey to find love through music. Singing well-known songs, both individually and as couples, they will look to “form attractions through the melodies, find and reveal their feelings and ultimately, fall in love.”
Once the couples commit to each other, they will be tested through musical challenges, including live performances judged by “some of the biggest names in the music business.” Ultimately, the couples whose performances reveal their love and devotion to one another will continue to be given a chance to further their relationships until only one couple is left standing.

Season 24 of “The Bachelor” kicked off last night to solid TV ratings for ABC.
The premiere episode won the night with a 1.8 rating among adults 18-49 and drew just over 6 million total viewers. That represents a significant 20% up tick from last season’s premiere, which came in at a 1.5 rating and 5.1 million viewers. Season 23 peaked with its finale at 2.4 and 8.2 million viewers, and it remains to be seen whether this season will top those heights. Pilot Pete Weber, who was recently a standout on the Hannah Brown season of “The Bachelorette,” is taking the dating show commands this season.
Elsewhere, “America’s Got Talent: Champions” drew the largest total viewership of the night with 8 million. The season 2 premiere drew a 1.3 rating for NBC, second behind “The Bachelor.” Later in the 10 p.m. time slot, “Manifest” premiered its second season down from last season at a 0.9 rating and 4.8 million viewers. This season of Bachelor In Paradise ended happier than most could have predicted, with three engagements: Dylan and G., Katie and Chris, and the show’s first same sex couple, Demi and Kristian. It was all going so well… and yet the show announced that the next Bachelor would be Pete Weber, a.k.a Pete the pilot.
