Paul Dano has played a “Batman” villain and a Beach Boy, but the Emmy nominee had no desire to play a presumed child kidnapper in “Prisoners.”
The Denis Villeneuve-directed film stars Hugh Jackman, Viola Davis, and Terence Howard as parents whose children are taken. Jake Gyllenhaal plays the detective on the case, as the local community fingers Dano’s character and his suspicious mother (Melissa Leo) as being involved. The 2013 film was nominated for Best Cinematography for Roger Deakins’ work.
“People love ‘Prisoners,'” Dano said while reflecting on his best roles for a GQ video. “This is one of those that you don’t really want to do, but you do, if you know what I mean.”
He continued, “I’d seen Denis’ film ‘Incendies,’ and he told me Roger Deakins was shooting it, who I had a massive crush on. Did I want to play that part?...

It’s one of the most stunning seven minutes of filmed action in years. Undercover MI6 agent Lorraine Broughton (Charlize Theron) enters an apartment building to find and stop the snipers making it impossible to sneak her asset, Spyglass (Eddie Marsan), out of East Berlin. In one long take — or at least what would appear to be one — she fights a series of well-trained assassins, using both hand-to-hand combat and her gun in a scene that is both viscerally exciting and edge-of-your-seat thrilling.

We’ve been blessed with some really great superhero movies this year. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, Spider-Man: Homecoming and Wonder Woman have all made lots of cash and achieved much critical acclaim, but the one that will go down as the best is probably Logan. The mature, gritty blockbuster gave us a much more grounded take on the character of Wolverine, with some excellent work from director James Mangold and star Hugh Jackson that ensured it was a complete triumph.
Let’s not forget the stellar performance from Patrick Stewart, either, as a nonagenarian Charles Xavier, now suffering from dementia. It was perhaps the actor’s finest work in the whole X-Men movie franchise but initially, Sir Pat was hesitant to sign up for Logan.
Here’s what Stewart told The Mirror in a recent interview.

The promotional team behind Fox’s Logan had some fun with the visual presentation of their newest sequel early on, often releasing beautiful black and white stills promoting the somber, solemn new superhero film. They arrived so consistently and frequently that some thought the newest X-Men movie might, in fact, be sans color, but the excellent, vibrant first trailer put those rumors to rest.
The marketing campaign continues apace today with the release of a brand new photo that’s full of color. Seen below, it features the titular hero standing on the side of the road as the sun sets behind him. He’s definitely not looking too happy here, but without knowing the context of the scene, it’s hard to say what exactly’s got him all riled up.

Let me get this out of the way, The Wolverine is not your typical Marvel mutant movie. If you’re hoping to see a smorgasbord of mutants show up to help the ol’ Canucklehead through the streets of Japan, where most of this film takes place, you’ll be extremely disappointed. I, on the other hand, wasn’t. After X3 and X-Men Origins: Wolverine, I had had enough. I needed a fresh start. First Class was a big step towards wiping the later X-films from my memory, and thankfully The Wolverine swoops in to finish the job one year before Brian Singer returns to the series as the director of Days of Future Past. That isn’t to say The Wolverine is without flaws, but as a whole, it’s another step in the right direction to fixing the X-Men movie franchise. Director James Mangold did a good job as...

An upcoming short film to watch for titled Not For Sale, from the director and writing team of Roger Melvin and Haran Jackson, which is inspired by an excerpt from Sidney Poitier's autobiography The Measure of a Man. Set in the early 1950's, the film is centered around the infamous "Hollywood Blacklist" - the infamous list of entertainers who were singled out and blacklisted for their political leanings and associations (specifically the Communist Party), whether they were proven or just suspected. The movement damaged careers and friendships, and promoted ideological censorship across the entire industry. Poitier himself did have his brush with...
