The worst thing that could possibly happen to a Doctor Who fan is for the show to be cancelled again. Or for it to be broadcast again. Depends who you ask, really.
Despite the advent of the 15th Doctor and the anticipation that brings, there are nagging doubts abroad concerning the show’s future. And that’s fair enough, really. Some fans are just naturally pessimistic, some remember previous crushed hopes around Doctor Who’s wilderness years, and some just look at the state of TV streaming and feel that pessimism is a fairly realistic outlook. It’s also not unreasonable to be concerned that David Tennant is kicking around somewhere, especially given that it was raised by the host during Gatwa’s recent appearance on The Graham Norton Show.
Then there are the folk who simply don’t like Russell T Davies’ writing on Doctor Who. A previous line...

Choosing your favourite Doctor Who episode feels a bit like choosing your favourite child, except you probably don’t have 800-plus children, so maybe it’s even worse.
But that’s exactly what Doctor Who Magazine inflicted on fans earlier this year, sugaring the pill ever so slightly by combining all the multiple-episode stories into one, which helpfully narrowed the choice from over 800 episodes to 300 “TV adventures”.
Who fans were tasked with rating all episodes out of ten – narrowing it down to 37 stories – and then asked to pick their top five from this list. After much number crunching, the top 10 TV adventures were revealed.
And there was one clear winner: “Heaven Sent”.
This 2015 Peter Capaldi-era episode was certainly powerful and memorable. The Doctor was grieving Clara Oswald (Jenna Coleman), after she was executed in the previous episode, “Face The Raven”. In “Heaven Sent”, The Doctor is trapped in a strange castle,...

HBO delivers a new incarnation of “The Time Traveler’s Wife” on Sunday night, a theme for a show which delivered a specific set of production challenges that took some clever planning to traverse.
In the latest version of the story, based on the 2003 book by Audrey Niffenegger, Theo James (“Divergent”) plays time traveler Henry, and “Game of Thrones” alum Rose Leslie stars as his wife, Claire.
Henry jumps through time multiple times in every episode — and with different aged Henrys crossing paths with different aged Claires, as well as her housemates Gomez (Desmin Borges) and Charisse (Natasha Lopez), who become their best friends, it made for an unusual filming experience and one that took some getting used to for the actors.
“It was definitely tricky,” James told TheWrap, noting that “some days, you would be shooting – it didn’t happen a lot — but some days you will be shooting Claire...

“We’re not messing around with the stuff that really matters,” Steven Moffat, executive producer of HBO’s upcoming series adaptation of Audrey Niffenegger’s book The Time Traveler’s Wife, declared.
Moffat was talking up the series, which is set to premiere later this spring, during HBO’s virtual TCA press day Tuesday, and comes as the network unveiled the first look at the show.

“What is thrilling of the interaction of time travel and a love story here, is it makes the most common phenomenon of a completely happy marriage, interesting again. Love stories, or love movies, tend to end at the alter.

Visits from the mysterious Henry are the bright spots in the tedium of her childhood. As the years pass, and she grows into a beautiful young woman, she starts to realise her friend is not imaginary – he’s a time traveler, visiting from the future.

Since she was six years old, Clare has had an imaginary friend: a kind and funny man, sometimes old, sometimes young, who appears in the woods behind her house and tells her tales of the future. Visits from the mysterious Henry are the bright spots in the tedium of her childhood. As the years pass, and...

In anticipation of the Time Lord’s return in October, the BBC has today announced the full creative roster behind Doctor Who season 11.
Showrunner Chris Chibnall was on-hand to introduce each member of the team, four of which are directors: Sallie Aprahamian, Jamie Childs, Jennifer Perrott and Mark Tonderai. Two of those filmmakers have already cut their teeth on the Doctor Who saga, and viewers ought to recognize Jamie Childs as he was the one who actually shot Jodie Whittaker’s debut as the Thirteenth Doctor during the 2017 festive special.
Meanwhile, on the writing front, we have multiple award-winning scribes, including Ed Hime of Skins fame and Joy Wilkinson, who has shot to stardom with her TV script for The Life and Adventures of Nick Nickleby.
A full breakdown is included below, along with a quote from each respective creator about Doctor Who and what the hit sci-fi series means...

HBO are embarking on a TV adaptation of Audrey Niffenegger’s novel The Time Traveler’s Wife.
Former Doctor Who showrunner Steven Moffat has been set to pen the script and also serve as executive producer. Sue Vertue and Brian Minchin will also serve as executive producers.
The debut novel of Niffenegger is a love story about a man with a genetic disorder that causes him to time travel unpredictably, and about his wife, an artist, who has to cope with his frequent absences and dangerous experiences. Niffenegger, frustrated in love when she began the work, wrote the story as a metaphor for her failed relationships.

In these wibbly wobbly times, this is a particularly timey wimey kind of day. First, NBC ordered a two-part TV series finale movie for twice-cancelled Timeless. Now, HBO has ordered a The Time Traveler's Wife TV show. Creator Steven Moffat, who wrote and executive produced another time travel tale -- Doctor Who -- for years, is executive producing with his wife and Sherlock colleague, Sue Vertue, as well as Brian Minchin, the latest Doctor Who showrunner.
Based on the Audrey Niffenegger novel, The Time Traveler's Wife centers on Clare and Henry, a couple whose love is complicated by -- you guessed it -- time travel. The new HBO TV series hails from Hartswood Films in association with Warner Bros. Television. Read More…...

Steven Moffat was once one of the busiest men on television, as he helmed two of the biggest British dramas in Doctor Who and Sherlock for many years. With the latter now on indefinite hiatus though and having handed the keys to the Tardis over to new showrunner Chris Chibnall, Moffat’s free at the moment to work on some fresh projects and his latest has just been announced: an adaptation of The Time Traveler’s Wife for HBO.
The sci-fi romance is a 2003 novel by author Audrey Niffenegger and was previously brought to the screen in the 2009 movie of the same name starring Eric Bana and Rachel McAdams. Unlike the acclaimed book, however, the film was met with mixed reviews – though it does have its fans – so it makes sense that HBO’s keen to mine the novel for its full potential.

HBO has ordered a series adaptation of Audrey Niffenegger’s novel “The Time Traveler’s Wife” from Steven Moffat.
“We are thrilled to be partnering with Steven Moffat, Hartswood and Wbtv on The Time Traveler’s Wife,” said HBO programming president Casey Bloys. “Steven’s passion is evident in every project he’s written and we are certain that his love and respect for this mesmerizing and textured novel will make it a quintessential HBO series.”
Originally adapted into a 2009 film starring Rachel McAdams and Eric Bana, “The Time Traveler’s Wife” tells the story of Clare and Henry, and a marriage with a problem. That problem is time travel.
Moffat, best known for his work on “Doctor Who” and “Sherlock,” will write the adaptation. He will serve as executive producer with Sue Vertue and Brian Minchin.

HBO is bringing “The Time Traveler’s Wife” to the small screen, handing out a series order to Steven Moffat’s TV adaptation of the novel, the network announced Tuesday.
“I read Audrey Niffenegger’s The Time Traveler’s Wife many years ago, and I fell in love with it,” Moffat said in a statement. “In fact, I wrote a Doctor Who episode called The Girl In The Fireplace as a direct response to it. When, in her next novel, Audrey had a character watching that very episode, I realised she was probably on to me. All these years later, the chance to adapt the novel itself, is a dream come true. The brave new world of long form television is now ready for this kind of depth and complexity. It’s a story of happy ever after – but not necessarily in that order.”

After flying off with her space puddle girlfriend to see the universe (just roll with it) at the end of season 10, it looked like we’d seen the last of the Doctor’s latest companion, Bill Potts. It was a welcome surprise, then, when the Christmas special trailer announced that Pearl Mackie would be returning one last time for Peter Capaldi’s final hour on Doctor Who.
However, it was still shrouded in mystery exactly what Bill’s role in the episode would be. Was she due to make a quick cameo? Or would she stick around for the whole outing? Unfortunately, we still don’t have an answer, but it would seem that she’ll be fairly involved, as a new motion poster for the special has dropped and it features Mackie’s character along with the two Doctors.
There’s nothing here that’ll stop the presses, but...

While Doctor Who itself prepares to head into a new era – with the transition between Peter Capaldi and showrunner Steven Moffat, to new Doctor Jodie Whittaker and showrunner Chris Chibnall now underway – it’s officially the end of all things for spinoff series Class. After weeks of speculation, BBC Three controller Damian Kavanagh has confirmed that the show has been cancelled after just one season.
Class was created by Patrick Ness, with Steven Moffat acting as executive producer, alongside Brian Minchin – who produced the previous two Doctor Who spinoff shows, The Sarah Jane Adventures, and Torchwood. Its premise revolved around the familiar and regular Doctor Who location of Coal Hill Academy, with a group of students and staff supporting the work of the Doctor in dealing with extra-terrestrial menaces – against a backdrop of pubescent trials and tribulations. Specifically, one teacher and one student are revealed to be alien refugees, hiding from their inter-galactic persecutors,...

If there’s one downside to the great news that Jodie Whittaker is joining Doctor Who as its first ever female Doctor this Christmas, it means that we don’t have much longer left with the amazing Peter Capaldi. The Scottish actor has proven himself born to play the part of the centuries-old Time Lord over the past three seasons and his performance has been reliably brilliant throughout.
There’s another important changeover to keep in mind, though, as this year’s Christmas special will also be the last episode helmed by Steven Moffat as showrunner after working on the hit series for six seasons. That’s a long time to spend on a project, especially one as time consuming as this, and the writer/director is clearly getting a bit emotional as his job comes to an end.

Minchin will head its Welsh division.
Doctor Who exec producer Brian Minchin is joining Sherlock indie Hartswood Films to bolster its Welsh division (reports Broadcast).

Some fans have taken umbrage with the level of ‘spoilery’ announcements made about this season of Doctor Who. While others reacted with excitement when, say, it was revealed that the original Cybermen would be returning to the show, a lot of people would have preferred to find this out during the episode itself. The same goes for John Simm’s long-awaited comeback as the Master. As if to make up for spoiling his return, however, there was another layer to his re-appearance that was still able to shock some fans.
In last week’s outing, “World Enough and Time,” Bill befriends strange, quirky hospital orderly Mr. Razor, who seems to be the episode’s comic relief character. As things progress, though, he actually leads her into being – shock horror! – converted into a Cyberman and it turns out that he’s really John Simm’s Master in disguise.

A fan-favorite character is returning to Season 10 of “Doctor Who.” The BBC announced that Matt Lucas, known for playing Nardole, will be making an appearance in the opening episode of the upcoming season.
“I’m chuffed to bits that Nardole is returning to the Tardis for some more adventures. I loved acting with Peter and I’m excited to work with Pearl,” Lucas said in a statement.
Nardole is a human cyborg who made his first appearance in the 2015 Christmas special, “The Husbands of River Song.” He was told by Professor Song to find the surgeon needed to extract the Halassi Androvar from the head of King Hydroflax. But instead, Nardole found Doctor Who and took him to the Professor.

“Delighted and slightly amazed to be welcoming Matt Lucas back on to the Tardis – and this time it’s not just for Christmas, he’s sticking around,” said Steven Moffat, lead writer and executive producer. “One of the greatest comedy talents on planet Earth is being unleashed on all of time and space.”
Filming for “Doctor Who” begins Monday, June 20 in Cardiff, Wales. Pearl Mackie, who was recently cast as Peter Capaldi’s new companion, will embark on her first week filming the role of Bill. This will be her first major television role following her West End appearance in “The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night Time.”

The opening episode is written by “Doctor Who” showrunner Moffat, executive produced by Brian Minchin, produced by Peter Bennett and directed by Lawrence Gough. The second episode has been crafted by award-winning screenwriter Frank Cottrell-Boyce.
