Back in 2017, Robinne Lee dropped by a local L.A. news station for an interview promoting her role in “Fifty Shades Darker,” the second film in the steamy series based on books by E.L. James.
“You’re venturing out a little bit now with a new novel…” the Kcal anchor said to Lee, whose filmography already included “Deliver Us From Eva,” “Hitch” and “13 Going on 30,” teeing the actor up to mention her career pivot. “I have a novel coming out this spring called ‘The Idea of You,’” Lee replied, grinning.
The premise was unique: A divorced mother and art gallery owner, living in L.A. on the precipice of turning 40, takes her daughter to a concert meet-and-greet and the 20-year-old lead singer of the band falls in love with her. The story, Lee explained, was “as much about a love story complicated by celebrity and the underbelly of...

On May 9, the basketball legend brings you When We Gather, a curated night of stand-up comedy at the iconic Miracle Theater in Inglewood. The show will highlight Black comedians in Los Angeles — the legendary, the up-and-coming, and everyone in between.

Cynthia Erivo attended her first Met Gala in 2017.
“Walking on the Met Gala carpet that year was really fucking nerve-wracking,” she told me Sunday night at UTA’s pre-Met party at Nubeluz at the Ritz-Carlton New York, NoMad. “I had just finished ‘The Color Purple’ [on Broadway]. I went with Coach.
“I was new so I didn’t know what to expect,” she continued. “It’s that weird thing where I was like, ‘I don’t know if I’m supposed to be here.’ It was a lot of imposter syndrome.”
Monday’s gala will mark Erivo’s sixth time in attendance.
Asked to describe this year’s look, Erivo teased, “It’s almost like I have run through a garden and things have fallen on me.” Her signature long nails were already in place on Sunday—they’re an earthy palette and decorated with small flowers and foliage.

Ddg spilled some tea on how he and Halle Bailey spend their money.

Instead, he revealed what works for them and one spot where they do try to keep things more even.

“I pay for a lot of stuff,” he said on The Shade Room. “I don’t think 50/50 is a thing when you’ve got money. You know, me and her got money so it’s a little different.”
Ddg implied that sometimes Halle pays for things entirely if she wants to.
“If it ain’t hurting your pockets, then why is it a problem,” he asked.

At the first moment of physical contact between Anne Hathway and Nicholas Galitzine in “The Idea of You” — a light touch of the hands — the crowd at the film’s SXSW world premiere completely lost it. By the time the actors were kissing, the gasps, shrieks and applause were deafening.
Hathaway was overcome with emotion as she took the stage for a post-screening Q&a at Austin’s Paramount Theater.
“I can’t talk,” she said to the audience, in tears. “I love you!” a fan called out, and Hathaway responded, “I love you so much. You have no idea the gift that you’ve just given us with your responsiveness, by being so connected to every little nuance in this. I will never forget this screening.”

Anyone seeking additional proof that the 2024 Oscars were rooted in a bigger-is-better vibe, look no further than the abundance of high-jewelry choices seen on the red carpet and inside the Dolby Theatre. Necklaces sometimes tend to take a backseat to chandelier earrings or a statement cocktail ring on red carpets these days, but not this year, as chokers, pendants and sautoirs ruled the parade of gems at the 96th Academy Awards. (See all the star-studded Oscars red carpet 2024 arrivals.)
Other jewelry trends seen at the 96th Academy Awards include a prevalence of jaw-dropping gemstones, from the sapphires on Emma Stone’s Louis Vuitton high jewelry and the morganites favored by Zendaya — one of the night’s best-dressed stars — to the stunning aquamarine of 30-plus carats on the Tiffany & Co. Exclusive: Luchina Fisher, the filmmaker behind Netflix’s forthcoming documentary short The Dads, has signed with CAA for representation.
Slated to debut on Netflix November 17th, the most recent short directed and produced by Fisher watches as five fathers of trans children join Dennis Shepard, the father of slain gay college student Matthew Shepard, for a weekend fishing trip in rural Oklahoma, finding common purpose across races, generations and experiences. As the men cast their rods into the river, they discuss what has brought them together: the love for their children.
The film, billed as a quiet meditation on fatherhood, brotherhood and manhood, was executive produced by Dwyane Wade and Jon Marcus for 59th and Prairie Entertainment, winning Best Documentary Short at the 2023 El Paso Film Festival. Netflix announced its acquisition of the title, named Runner-Up for the Documentary Short Audience Award at NewFest’s 35th anniversary festival, back in June.

Charli D’Amelio is one of several stars to have sold their likeness to Meta to be turned into an AI character, and her new character Coco has excellent taste in makeup.
On Wednesday (October 11), characters bearing the likeness of the 19-year-old TikTok star and other celebrities including Kendall Jenner, Pairs Hilton, Tom Brady and Dwyane Wade started popping up with verified Instagram accounts.
Each character is a clone of one of the stars, but they have different names and personalities.
For instance, Charli‘s is named Coco, and she’s a ballerina. Since going live on the app, Coco has shared multiple AI-generated posts. That includes a Get Ready With Me-style video, where she highlighted a very real (and popular) indie makeup brand and their cult classic eyeshadow palette.

In the clip, Charli shows off the products that she used to achieve a dreamy periwinkle glam.

As Selena Gomez once said, everything is not what it seems. On Oct. 5, Meta unveiled Billie, an AI chatbot created using Kendall Jenner's likeness. Outwardly, the bot resembles the model to a T, down to her mannerisms, tone of voice, and blinking patterns. "Chatting with me is like having an older sister you can talk to, but who can't steal your clothes," Billie captioned its debut Instagram post. The chatbot is the first in a line of 28 new AI assistants modeled after celebrities, and as one Instagram commenter succinctly put it, "that's freaky as hell."
To be fair, artificial intelligence has proven useful in gathering information and analyzing data at a faster pace in myriad industries around the world, including healthcare, cybersecurity, financial services, insurance, the beauty industry, and business enterprises. Still, this most recent development could give "Black Mirror," "Severance," and even "The Matrix" a run for their money.

Usher has taken time from Las Vegas to visit France for his Paris residency.
On his second day performing in Paris, Usher wore an all-white suit as he sang and danced on stage at La Seine Musical. A day before, though, the multi-Grammy winner kept himself in check as he sang “Boyfriend” to actress Gabrielle Union but stopped in the middle of a line as he didn’t want any trouble with her husband, former NBA player Dwyane Wade.
“Okay, let’s stop, let’s not get carried away,” Usher jokingly told the audience. “This is Dwyane Wade, I ain’t crazy. That man will knock my whole head off and then dunk it.”
Usher posted the video of his exchange with the audience and the celebrity couple on Instagram and captioned it, “Look, I don’t want no smoke Night one in Paris.”

Usher created a memorable moment during his recent performance at La Seine Musicale in Paris, France. During his concert, the 44-year-old singer serenaded actress Gabrielle Union with his hit song, “Boyfriend”. However, the performance took an unexpected turn when Usher decided to pause and share a lighthearted exchange with none other than Union’s husband, former NBA player Dwyane Wade.
In a video clip shared on Instagram by both Usher and Wade, the crowd can be seen enthusiastically dancing as Usher sings the lyrics, “Somebody said that your boyfriend’s lookin’ for me.” Amid the electrifying atmosphere, Usher playfully interrupts himself, quipping, “Well, he should know I’m pretty — Ok, let’s stop. Let’s not get carried away. This is Dwyane Wade, I ain’t crazy. That man will knock my whole head off and then dunk it.”

Usher can’t help that people have been swooning over him for the better part of the past three decades. He’s just that guy. When he serenaded Keke Palmer during one of his Las Vegas residency shows a few months ago, it struck a chord with her boyfriend, Darius Jackson, who inadvertently became the subject of Usher’s tantalizing single “Boyfriend.” He poked fun at the situation with a winking music video, but the singer knows how to pick his battles — and going head-to-head with Dwyane Wade for serenading...

Dwyane Wade is opening up about how he tried to end things with Gabrielle Union after fathering a child with another woman — and how the two were able to reconcile.
Back in 2013, the couple — who had been dating since 2007 — were on a break, due to Union’s breakneck schedule with back-to-back acting roles. During that time, the Miami Heat star had an affair with “Basketball Wives” star Aja Metoyer, resulting in their son, Xavier, now 9 years old.
“I had to sit with my wife and have this conversation.”
In a new interview with Shannon Sharpe, Wade admitted that he “tried to break up” with Union rather than telling her the truth.

Girls' trip - don't text. Gabrielle Union and Tia Mowry seem to be having the ultimate vacation in the South of France, and their mini throwback dance party is the proof. In an Aug. 29 TikTok, the two showed off impressive choreography to Christina Aguilera's iconic 2000s hit "Come On Over (All I Want Is You)," matching each other's energy with Union in an asymmetrical red minidress, and Mowry in bright yellow.
Together, the dynamic duo hit every beat of the ultra nostalgic track, moving in sync and striking dramatic poses at the end. "Established in 1997 South of France Edition," Union captioned the video with her newfound dance partner, referencing the year she met Mowry on the "Sister Sister" set. "Romanticizing life like an early 2000s romcom with my girl," Mowry added on her own TikTok account. She later reposted the video on Instagram for good measure, writing, "Cairo and...

When Gabrielle Union-Wade turned 50 last October, the veteran actor and producer experienced a personal transformation, which has also filtered into her latest work. This era of her career, she says, is about embracing the possibilities.
“Whatever I thought that my dreams were, I was making them small,” Union-Wade told Variety at the American Black Film Festival (ABFF). “Turning 50 is about making things bigger by expanding the idea of what the possibilities could even be.”
Union-Wade debuted two projects at ABFF: the Netflix rom-com “The Perfect Find” and the BET+ docuseries “My Journey to 50,” which chronicled her birthday pilgrimage to Africa. She celebrated the BET+ series first, hosting a private bowling and ice-skating bash at the Miami Beach Edition on June 15, the same night the doc began streaming.
In a quick speech, Union-Wade thanked guests for joining her in her “second hometown” of Miami. “Wade County, baby!” she shouted out, referencing...

Exclusive: Netflix on Friday announced its acquisition of The Dads, a documentary short billed as a quiet meditation on fatherhood, brotherhood and manhood that counts 13-time NBA All-Star Dwyane Wade amongst its EPs.
The film from director Luchina Fisher (Mama Gloria) watches as five fathers of trans children join Dennis Shepard, the father of slain gay college student Matthew Shepard, for a weekend fishing trip in rural Oklahoma, finding common purpose across races, generations and experiences. As the men cast their rods into the river, they discuss what has brought them together: the love for their children.
The gay University of Wyoming Student who was beaten, tortured and left to die on October 6, 1998, Matthew Shepard’s story famously inspired the Moisés Kaufman play The Laramie Project, which Kaufman later adapted into a Sundance-premiering HBO film of the same name. In the aftermath of the tragedy, Dennis Shepard and wife Judy...

Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy’s Tmrw Sports Adds Justin Bieber and DJ Khaled As Investors (Exclusive)
A handful of heavyweights from the music industry are betting that America has an unmet appetite for golf content.
Justin Bieber, DJ Khaled, Macklemore, Darius Rucker and Jake Owen have signed on as investors in Tmrw Sports, a sports, media and entertainment company co-founded by golfers Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy, and media veteran Mike McCarley.
The first venture from Tmrw Sports is a made-for-tv golf league called the Tgl, which will develop tech-forward golf competitions, to be held in a custom-built arena live in primetime. Woods, McIlroy, Adam Scott, Jon Rahm and other PGA Tour pros have already committed to participating when it goes live next year.
While Tmrw Sports’ initial investment round was led by Connect Ventures and 25madison Ventures, it has since added a who’s who of backers from the sports, entertainment and tech worlds. MLB star Mike Trout, NBA legends Shaquille O’Neal and Dwyane Wade,...

Jonathan Anderson, the fashion designer of Loewe and his own line, Jw Anderson, is on the phone from Rome, calling from the set of Luca Guadagnino’s Queer, based on the novel by William S. Burroughs and starring Daniel Craig.
“He’s the only person I would do this for,” Anderson says of his costume design work for Guadagnino. “Luca creates an amazing type of escape from the job I normally do, but it also allows me to see a different viewpoint on how clothing can articulate thoughts and emotions in the world today.”
Greta Lee, Dan Levy and Jamie Clayton

Sinqua Walls and Jack Harlow fail to recall the magic of the 1992 hit in a shallow and mostly unfunny nostalgia play
White Men Can’t Jump did not need remaking. Rosie Perez, queen of the scene-stealers, made sure of that in 1992. “Listening versus hearing” remains among the all-time on-screen debates. Even the title encapsulated a time when basketball fandom in the 80s and 90s really was a black-and-white issue. The A-story about the mobsters hunting for their vigorish? Completely incidental. The R-rating for a comedy? No argument there.
That’s not to say the update, which premieres on Hulu, is an airball. Power’s Sinqua Walls certainly looks the part of Kamal, the hoops prodigy, to the point where the script even makes fun of his uncanny resemblance to the Miami Heat great Dwyane Wade. Teyana Taylor brings her true life experience as an NBA wife to the part of Kamal’s partner,...

Warner Bros. Discovery kicked off its 2023 upfront presentation in a no-frills way, with an overall brand sizzle and ad chief Jon Steinlauf giving a few remarks on stage at the Theater at Madison Square Garden Wednesday.
While the presentation covering HBO, Max, CNN, Food Network, HGTV, Discovery and more Warner Bros. Discovery brands was shorter than last year’s show (which was the company’s first since the merger that created it last April) the tight 90-minute presentation still covered each of its key divisions. Albeit, with much less sizzle, with no stars in attendance amid the writers strike.
“Let me just start by saying I am hopeful that a fair resolution is found soon with the writers,” HBO and Max chief Casey Bloys said, adding that he hopes for a return of talent to the stage, “making this a far more entertaining show” compared to “me and my clips.
