Updated with videos Sam Harris, the controversial and best-selling New Atheist who became a top Real Time with Bill Maher statistic when his heated 2014 debate with Ben Affleck went viral, wasted little on his return visit tonight before bringing up old arguments. “If Batman were here, he’d call us racist,” Harris said during his top-of-the-show interview before expounding on Islam and the Western liberals he and Maher insist go easy on it. And he was, no doubt, correct…...

This week on Real Time With Bill Maher, includes an interview with author Sam Harris and Michael Eric Dyson. Harris is an American author and neuroscientist, whose 2004 book End of Faith was on the NYTimes best-seller list for over 30 weeks. He’s also a strong advocate of the separation of the church and state, as well as the freedom to criticise religions. We wonder what he will have to say on President Trump’s plans to: “get rid of and totally destroy the Johnson Amendment and allow our representatives of faith to speak freely and without fear of retribution.” A fairly meaningless...read more...

Bill Maher on Islam: a history of the HBO host’s ‘not bigoted’ remarks
Ben Affleck has won praise for accusing TV host Bill Maher and author Sam Harris for what he called “gross” and “racist” depictions of Islam during a televised debate.
Appearing on HBO talk show Real Time with Bill Maher on Friday night, Affleck reacted furiously to claims by Maher that Islam manifested as “the only religion that acts like the mafia” and which would “fucking kill you if you say the wrong thing, draw the wrong picture or write the wrong book”.

Ben Affleck and Bill Maher aren't exactly seeing eye to eye on one hot issue. The Gone Girl star appeared on Real Time With Bill Maher Friday evening where he quickly got into a disagreement about Islam with the host and other panelists including author Sam Harris. During the debate, Affleck felt Maher and Harris were presenting an overly broad and negative picture of those who practice Islam. "We can criticize Christians…but when you want to talk about the treatment of women, homosexuals and free thinkers in the Muslim world, liberals have failed us. The crucial point of confusion is we have been sold this meme of Islamaphobia –where every criticism of the doctrine of Islam gets...

Ben Affleck gets heated on 'Real Time with Bill Maher.'
Ben Affleck is not afraid to speak his mind.
On HBO's Real Time with Bill Maher last night, the actor got in a heated debated with the outspoken host over radical Islam.
Joining them, author Sam Harris opened up the debate when he said that, "The crucial point of confusion is that we have been sold this meme of Islamophobia where every criticism of the doctrine of Islam gets confused with where every criticism of the doctrine of Islam gets conflated with bigotry towards Muslims as people. That is intellectually ridiculous."
The Gone Girl actor asks, "Hold on — are you the person who officially understands the codified doctrine of Islam?" He continues with, "(Your characterization) is gross and racist. It's like saying, 'Oh, you shifty Jew!;"

Ben Affleck and Bill Maher clearly have differing views on Islam. The Gone Girl star appeared on Friday's Real Time With Bill Maher, and the two sparred when Affleck felt Maher and guest Sam Harris were painting an overly broad and negative picture of those who practice Islam. For all the shows on tonight, there's surprisingly little that seems worth watching. The 9pm hour is basically a total wash for me, nothing of interest at all, and 10pm only works because you've got a choice of "Hoarders" (if you want to be disgusted and scared into being neater) or "Castle" (if you're nostalgic for other, non-procedural shows starring Nathan Fillion). There's always the football game for those of us who like football, but really, Monday is shaping up to be a depressing night for television if you're not a fan of a few very specific shows featured on The CW or enjoy watching stars dancing. Here's your Monday night TV:
8:00pm: "90210" on The CW
"Chuck" on NBC
"Dancing With the Stars" on ABC
"House" on Fox
"How I Met Your Mother" on CBS
"Little People, Big World" on Tlc. I always seem to find something vaguely insulting or distasteful about this show,...
