England. 1665. The great plague has caused a frenzy of fear, distrust and death. Desperate and terrified, the population turns to superstition, the Catholic Church taking cruel advantage of the grim witch-hunting opportunities presented. Recently widowed Grace Haverstock is at her wit’s end when her landlord attempts to force her into paying debts with sexual favours. Her refusal means she must face horrific interrogations at the hands of Britain’s most ruthless Witchfinder General. But she is not alone. And her journey won’t end here without a reckoning.
I’m going to be honest, the name Neil Marshall doesn’t seem to carry the same kudos is once had, especially after many fans felt his Hellboy adaptation lacklustre. However I am in the opposite camp… I truly enjoyed...

While Neil Marshall’s 1665 London-set, Great Plague drama The Reckoning has obvious allusions to our own present-day pandemic, Covid-19 wasn’t a factor in its creation being that filming occurred in 2019. The fear and paranoia that surround both eras are palpable, though, and the ways in which our current disease has been politicized beyond the point of human empathy does bear superficial similarity to the ways in which women were persecuted as witches against the backdrop that past sickness. Despite Marshall and co-writers Charlotte Kirk and Edward Evers-Swindell heavily researching the period to create a historically accurate piece depicting this tragedy’s two sides, their script actually resembles a different set of headlines altogether due to the circumstances surrounding the accusations leveled at Grace Haverstock’s (Kirk) lead.
The headlines I’m talking about are those dealing with Kirk’s presence as a figure within the #MeToo movement and last...

MoviePass surprisingly isn’t dead yet and they are new producing horror film project called The Reckoning. According to Deadline, Neil Marshall has been hired to direct it.
I’ve enjoyed the films that Marshall has made over the course of his career and it’s great to see that he’s taking on another horror project. He actually co-wrote the script with Edward Evers-Swindell and Charlotte Kirk. Kirk (Ocean’s Eight) will also star in The Reckoning.
The Reckoning is described as a female-driven story, which is set “around the witch hunts and the great plague in England in 1665 and follows Evelyn Haverstock (Kirk), a young widow, haunted by the recent suicide of her husband Joseph, who is falsely accused of being a witch by her jealous Landlord, Squire Pendleton, after she rejects his unwanted advances.”
Sounds like it could be a great movie! I love the era and setting of the story.

Cast: Siwan Morris, Gareth David-Lloyd, James Cosmo, Eleanor Gecks and Joanna Ignaczewska. Dark Signal is an indie film from Wales. Developed by director Edward Evers-Swindell (Infestation, 2005), writer Antony Jones and producer Neil Marshall, this film was released in the United Kingdom, in 2016. Since 2016, the film has found an upcoming United States' theatrical launch via XLrator Media. Dark Signal offers a split narrative. One story is more supernaturally based, while the second relies on a serial killer - the Wedlock Killer. Before the two stories unify in Act III, viewers may want to ask a question: are the two stories on the same timeline? There are a few hints along the way. Meanwhile, the film relies on mystery to hold its tension, through the hidden identities of both the protagonist and antagonist.
