Lobstrosities is a Patreon-only segment of The Losers’ Club that journeys into the barren wastelands of Stephen King movies and sequels. In the past, they’ve covered Pet Sematary 2, Creepshow 3, A Return to ‘Salem’s Lot, every sequel to Sometimes They Come Back, and a third of the Corn franchise. Today, in light of its 25th anniversary, the gang is unlocking their 2020 installment on the 1999 sequel, The Rage: Carrie 2.
Directed by Katt Shea, the direct sequel to Brian De Palma‘s Carrie follows Rachel Lang (Emily Bergl), the younger, also-telekinetic half-sister of Carrie White, who learns that her best friend’s suicide was prompted by a group of dickhead male classmates who exploited her sexually. The film brings back Amy Irving as Sue Snell and stuffs enough connective tissue between the cracks to make this whole thing work as a sequel.

Stephen King's books are frequently adapted into successful movies, but Hollywood often expands on the worlds King has created with original sequels that are bizarre or poorly written. One of the worst examples are the "Children of the Corn" movies, which mushroomed from an adaptation of King's single short story into a hackneyed 11-film saga. Likewise, films such as "Return to Salem's Lot" and "Pet Sematary" use Stephen King's name and established concepts to lure audiences in, but they pale in comparison to his prolific originals.
One of the exceptions to the rule is "The Rage: Carrie 2." Initially called "The Curse," Rafael Moreu's screenplay had nothing to do with Stephen King's masterful debut, but then shoehorned elements of Carrie White lore into the storyline (via Fangoria). The protagonist, Rachel Lang, is Carrie's secret half-sister and shares her telekinetic abilities. However, she is not as much of a social pariah as Carrie White,...

Everyone knows the story of Carrie White and how bad prom was for her. And everyone around her. But did you know that Carrie had a sister? It took a couple decades for this information to be revealed, but in 1999 we were introduced to her sibling. Her name was Rachel Lang… and in its own way, Rachel’s high school experience was as horrific as Carrie’s was. Rachel’s story was told in The Rage: Carrie 2 (watch it Here), a film that many seem to have forgotten about. But we still remember it, and we’re going to let you know What the F*ck Happened to This Horror Movie.

Tess Haubrich in ‘Bad Mothers’.
Tess Haubrich jumped at the chance to play a key role in Bad Mothers at very short notice after Jessica Marais was forced to withdraw for health reasons – not least because she had never worked with female directors.
Sian Davies, Catriona McKenzie and Geoff Bennett directed the Nine Network’s ensemble comedy-drama from Jungle Entertainment and Filthy Productions.
“It’s quite shocking that I had never worked on shows with female directors, except on short films,” says Haubrich, whose credits include Pine Gap, Wolf Creek 2, Ridley Scott’s Alien: Covenant, the Jackie Chan starrer Bleeding Steel and the Turner-Roache brothers Nekrotronic.
The Sydney-based actress was told one Friday night that she had won the role of Sarah in Bad Mothers and on the following Monday morning was in Melbourne for the start of two weeks pre-production.

The cast of ‘Bad Mothers’
As parents, Gavin Strawhan and Rachel Lang agreed that being a mother can be an impossible job and that no matter how hard they try, women will sometimes feel they are bad mothers.
The Auckland-based founders of Filthy Productions came up with the concept of a comedy-drama about five mums whose kids go to the same school, overlaid with a murder mystery, and pitched it to the Nine Network.
Execs at Nine suggested Strawhan and Lang find an Australian partner, which turned out to be Jungle Entertainment. The result is Bad Mothers, which launches on Nine at 9 pm on February 18 and across the ditch on Tvnz on February 20.
The ensemble show stars Tess Haubrich as Sarah, whose perfect life as a Gp, wife and mother is shattered when she discovers her husband Anton (Daniel MacPherson) is having an affair. Even worse, her best friend is...

Harry Greenwood.
Harry Greenwood graduated from Nida in 2012, so being named one of the Casting Guild of Australia’s 10 Rising Stars of 2018 could be considered as long overdue recognition.
“It has been a long haul,” the 29-year-old son of Hugo Weaving and artist Katrina Greenwood tells If. “It is nice to be recognised.”
Greenwood’s career has been on an upward trajectory since his breakthrough role as young Digger Bevan Johnson, the older brother of Kodi Smit-McPhee’s Thomas Johnson, in the 2015 Nine Network miniseries Gallipoli directed by Glendyn Ivin.
Next year could well be his biggest yet as he will be seen in Bad Mothers, the eight-part Nine Network comedy/drama from Jungle Entertainment and New Zealand-based Filthy Productions, and in two high-profile features: Justin Kurzel’s True History of the Kelly Gang and Jennifer Kent’s The Nightingale.

This year it has been streamlined to better serve film professionals to find the right connections. Head of Iffr Pro Marit van den Elshout: “We’ve downsized the selection to 16 projects in order to give each project more care and attention. The projects now start preparations a month in advance with a specially appointed mentor. Rachel Lang’s debut about a dejected young Frenchwoman co-opted to help with some bathroom Diy is an unexpected treat
A twentysomething girl finds herself at a crossroads after failing conspicuously as a runner on a film production. She returns home to Strasbourg, and throws herself into the diversionary activity of converting her grandmother’s bathroom to an invalid-friendly walk-in shower. It’s hard to imagine a more unpromising premise. And yet this debut feature from French director Rachel Lang is an absolute treat. It combines genuine laugh-out-loud moments with a deftly handled slow reveal of the bruises left by Ana’s (Salomé Richard) past life and loves.
The structure is episodic, like a scrapbook of moments from Ana’s summer. Some are fleeting – we get an eloquently unappetising glimpse of a single shot of peas and carrots smothered in tomato ketchup. Others, like the awkward friendship between Ana and Gregoire,...

The Nine Network is channelling tens of millions of dollars freed up from the end of its output deal with Warner Bros. into a record investment in local content.
Spending on local production will continue to rise over the next three years to the point where the network invests $100 million more per year than currently, executives said at the upfronts presentation today.
While Nine retains the first-run rights to The Big Bang Theory, director of programming and production Andrew Backwell said the broadcaster decided to relinquish the re-runs (subsequently acquired by Seven) because it preferred to spend the money on local content.
The 2016 line-up includes the Matchbox Pictures drama Hide & Seek, Cjz.s previously announced two-part Alan Bond miniseries House of Bond and a new factual series, Prison: First & Last 24 Hours.
Daryl Somers will return to TV as the host of You.re Back in the Room, a FremantleMedia Australia...

High school can be hell, and Stephen King’s 1974 novel Carrie is a prime example of teenagers crossing a line with their cruelty… only to find out too late that they messed with the wrong person. There’s a buzz in the air, sending a very clear message: Syfy is looking to greenlight some scripts, probably within the next week. Strangely, Syfy might be ordering these scripts straight to series instead of the traditional order of a pilot. The two series that look like they’ll be getting the greenlight love both come from Battlestar Galactica creator and executive producer Ron Moore. They are Helix and The Almighty Johnsons. I don’t know if they’ll get that series order, but I think they have a great shot thanks to their intriguing – and very different – premises. But why listen to me gush about these potential shows? Allow me to introduce you to them.
According to Deadline, Helix revolves around a team of scientists investigating a disease outbreak in an Antarctic research facility. Right off the bat, you’ve got my interest by making this an isolated story,...

I hear Syfy is zeroing in on scripts for its next round of green lights, which may come next week. I hear among the top contenders for a pickup are Helix, from Battlestar Galactica developer/executive producer Ron Moore, and The Almighty Johnsons. I hear Syfy are contemplating straight-to-series orders in lieu of traditional pilot pickups, and that the network may make greenlight decisions in conjunction with existing series renewals. Moore’s Helix, from Sony Picture TV where Moore is under an overall deal, is about a team of scientists investigating a possible disease outbreak at an Antarctic research facility. Cameron Porsandeh wrote the spec the pilot is based off of and serves as co-executive producer. Lynda Obst exec produces alongside Moore. The Almighty Johnsons is an adaptation of the New Zealand fantasy comedy/drama series created by James Griffin and Rachel Lang and produced by All3Media’s South Pacific Pictures.

The Almighty Johnsons: Series 2
Stars: Emmett Skilton, Tim Balme, Dean O’Gorman, Jared Turner, Ben Barrington | Created by James Griffin, Rachel Lang
“The Johnson brothers are back, and their quest to find Frigg and gain their full God powers continues. Along the way, several new and exciting variations will be explored and Axl will find himself on a more personal quest – to become Odin, he must first ‘become’ Odin… “
The Almighty Johnsons is a comedy-drama series about four brothers, raised in heartland New Zealand, who also happen to be the living incarnations of Norse Gods. They even have their own super-God-powers. Sort of – it’s just that their powers aren’t actually all that powerful. Putting Norse Gods right where they don’t want to be: in the bodies of a bunch of New Zealand lads saddled with a distinct lack of heroism and all the faults, flaws and desires of ordinary mortals,...

Sneak Peek "The Almighty Johnsons", a New Zealand-lensed fantasy comedy/drama TV series created by James Griffin and Rachel Lang, produced by South Pacific Pictures.
"...on his 21st birthday, student 'Axl Johnson' discovers that he and his family members are reincarnated Norse gods.
"The only problem is, they don't have full control of their powers and it is up to Axl (the reincarnation of 'Odin') to restore those powers, while ensuring the family's survival by finding the reincarnation of Odin's wife, 'Frigg'.
"Matters are complicated by the presence of four antagonistic Norse goddesses who are trying to find Frigg before the Johnsons do to prevent the restoration of the gods' powers.
"But the Johnsons and the band of goddess rivals aren't the only Norse deities living in exile in New Zealand..."
Season 2 started shooting October 2011.
Syfy in the UK will start airing the series February 2012.
