Dan McDermott, President of Entertainment and AMC Studios, says the studio is positioned to do more third-party productions like Silo, though he noted that “it’s not our primary business.”
The big-budget dystopian drama was renewed last year for a second season on Apple TV+. Production for Season 2 wrapped earlier this year, but a premiere date has not been confirmed.
McDermott and other AMC Networks execs fielded questions about the company’s original programming strategy during the company’s first-quarter earnings call with Wall Street analysts. One wondered about Silo specifically, given its budget is at the high end for AMC as well as the reality that third-party projects don’t feed the company’s own network and streaming portfolio.
“AMC Studios is a vibrant and productive group that produces for every one of our platforms,” McDermott said. “These shows enable us to build a library, which accrues real value...

The series premiere of The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live proved a ratings winner for AMC and AMC+. The spinoff featuring fan favorites Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) and Michonne (Danai Gurira) began its first season by pulling in the biggest ratings of an AMC series since 2018.
According to the network, three million viewers watched the spinoff on its first night, earning it the top spot on the 2023/24 cable drama premiere chart in key demographics. Episode one also ranks as the most-watched episode of any series on AMC+.

A new chapter in The Walking Dead saga has premiered on AMC. The show has gone through a lot of cast members and two characters who have survived it all, Rick and Michonne, are now on a personal journey together in a post-post apocalyptic world. The show premiered this past week and in a review from our own Alex Maidy, he stated, “Regardless of how exposition-heavy this premiere episode is, there is still something great about seeing zombies on screen, and the make-up work by The Walking Dead crew never disappoints. I just hope that this first episode was a requisite recap on the way to bigger and better storytelling in the chapters to follow. For now, I am lukewarm on The Ones Who Live, and that is being generous.”

It’s no secret that AMC’s “The Walking Dead” wasn’t the ratings powerhouse it used to be as the main show got longer and longer in the tooth, but recently the network has made the smart decision to dial in on the characters and legacy storylines that audiences do still care about. That’s how we’ve ended up with spinoff shows like “Daryl Dixon” and “Dead City,” which lean heavily on marquee star power to bring burnt out fans back into the universe.
The latest example of this spinoff trend is “The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live,” which premiered this past Sunday night on AMC and AMC+. The series brings back Andrew Lincoln’s Rick Grimes and Danai Gurira’s Michonne, charting the epic love story between the two main series characters and documenting their struggle to reunite amidst a zombie hell.

Does the Television Critics Association’s semi-annual press tour still hold value?
That topic was a frequent debate at the Langham Hotel in Pasadena, California, where the TCA winter press tour wrapped Thursday after two weeks and a dizzying number of panels featuring stars, producers and the occasional executive.
TCA can still bring out the big stars (Apple had Michael Douglas, Hulu delivered Jon Bon Jovi, and Annette Bening and Snoop Dogg were highlights at NBCU) but the real value — aside from showcasing programming to a shrinking press corps that has been overwhelmed by Peak TV — comes from executive sessions that can help lay out a platform strategy that many will cover for months on end.
Before we get into the biggest takeaways from TCA, allow us to make an appeal to Netflix, Amazon, Warner Bros. Discovery and Paramount Global to return to press tour. Yes, we know it’s...

Updated with closing price. Shares in AMC Networks dropped sharply Friday following a shaky fourth-quarter earnings report and a conference call with Wall Street analysts.
The stock initially drifted down by mid-single-digits in pre-market trading after the earnings release, which revealed a 23% drop in domestic ad revenue and a 16% decline in affiliate revenue. Although it was difficult to draw a direct line between management comments on the call and the stock movement later in the morning, the selloff intensified after the call. Shares fell 19% in the first hour of the trading day, to their lowest level since last October. They improved slightly in the afternoon but still finished down 15% at $14.41.
Execs were asked on the call to offer their guidance as to when the company’s top-line revenue might stabilize or even return to growth. “We’ve been very clear for the past year and going forward about how we...

Once and future basic cable golden duo Andrew Lincoln and Danai Gurira toplined AMC Networks’ meeting with the Television Critics Association on Tuesday, as The Walking Dead actors capped off a presentation of new and returning series that, in many respects, would have made as much sense in 2014 as it does in 2024.
Lincoln and Gurira were on hand to hype the zombie franchise’s sixth spinoff, The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live. But the growing tally of Walking Dead off-shoots isn’t the only indication of how valuable past properties and players remain to the AMC brands. The media company, a consortium of cable networks (AMC, We TV, Sundance, IFC) and specialty streamers (AMC+, Acorn TV, Allblk, Shudder) banked big on familiar faces and titles over the course of the afternoon — trotting out a new vehicle for Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul star Giancarlo Esposito (Parish), announcing a...

In Charles de Lauzirika's masterful documentary "Wreckage and Rage: Making Alien 3," producer David Giler laments that the David Fincher-directed sequel was doomed to disappoint because the studio was more focused on making a release date than a movie. Though I think they wound up with a boldly dour film that is every bit as singular as the movies that preceded it, his point is well taken. Setting down rails before you ride a train into town is not a bad idea. But the only thing Hollywood studios hate more than originality is learning from their mistakes.
Which brings us to 20th Century Fox's 2006 remake of "The Omen."
Amusingly, the studio that courted disaster with "Alien 3" 14 years prior opted to resuscitate their dead and decaying "The Omen" franchise because of a release date. 6/6/06 was only ever going to happen once, and, so the reasoning went, you'd be leaving...

Late Friends star Matthew Perry was very open about his feelings for one of his co-stars. He spoke of his “elaborate fantasies” about them running away together in his autobiography, Friends, Lovers and the Big Terrible Thing. However, did the object of his affection feel the same way? Did they date?
Matthew Perry was head over heels for one of his co-stars, did they date?
In his autobiography Friends, Lovers and the Big Terrible Thing, Matthew Perry admitted his deep feelings for one of his co-stars. This big-name star and the former Friends star had a short but sweet dalliance.
Perry wrote that he “fell madly in love” with co-star Valerie Bertinelli when they played siblings in the short-lived 1990 CBS sitcom Sydney. The series ran for one season on CBS from March through June 1990.

The world was rocked this weekend by the passing of actor Matthew Perry, only 54 years old and best known for his role as "Chandler Bing" on "Friends" — the sitcom for which "popular" doesn't begin to describe its reputation. And yet, Perry could have missed out on the part that made him famous and ended up on the wrong side of a Hollywood "what-if" story. The actor recounted the close call in his memoir, "Friends, Lovers, and the Big Terrible Thing," published in 2022 and written in a conversational (and occasionally vulgar) style.
Let's set the scene: It's 1994 and Perry has a part in a sitcom pilot. Not on "Friends," but on "L.A.X. 2194." You've probably never heard of it. It's a workplace comedy about baggage handlers at Los Angeles International Airport ... but set in the year 2194. The leads, draped in futuristic costumes right out of "Star Wars," would be handling the luggage of alien tourists.

One of the most acclaimed movies of the year is being turned into a miniseries by AMC. For better or worse, "BlackBerry," which was released in theaters back in May, is going to be repurposed as a three-episode TV show that will air on the cable network next month across three nights. It will also be streaming on AMC+. While this opens the movie up to a larger audience, it's going to be presented in a way that was not originally intended, making this something of a bittersweet situation. More on that in a second. For now, let's get into the specifics.
Billed as a "special television event," the miniseries version of director Matt Johnson's "BlackBerry" includes 16 minutes of new footage. It will air in three parts on November 13, 14, and 15 on AMC, with all three episodes available on AMC+ on November 13. Dan McDermott, president of entertainment and AMC Studios for AMC Networks,...

Among the best movies to kick off the summer movie season this past May, Matt Johnson’s Berlinale and SXSW selection BlackBerry stars Jay Baruchel, Glenn Howerton, and Johnson in the story of the men that charted the course of the spectacular rise and catastrophic demise of the world’s first smartphone. Backed by CBC (Canadian Broadcasting Corporation), as part of the film’s financing, Johnson was contracted to deliver the project in three parts to air on the Canadian station, along with a theatrical release. Now that expanded version will also get a U.S. release as AMC have announced a special three-part television event. Expanding from the original film’s two-hour runtime, this new version features 16 minutes of never-before-seen footage. On AMC, BlackBerry will air in three parts on November 13, 14 and 15. All three episodes will be available on AMC+ on November 13.

“The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon” is off to the races in the ratings.
Per AMC, the premiere of the spinoff series centered on Norman Reedus’ fan favorite character is officially the biggest premiere in the history of streamer AMC+ with three weeks of streaming data available. That puts its ahead of fellow “Walking Dead” spinoff “The Walking Dead: Dead City” starring Lauren Cohan and Jeffrey Dean Morgan as Maggie and Negan, which claimed the biggest premiere honor back in June. Both shows have already been renewed for second seasons.
Furthermore, “Daryl Dixon” is now on pace to become the most-viewed season of any show in the history of AMC+.
In the linear ratings, the fourth episode of “Daryl Dixon” this past Sunday hit new series highs in total viewership and the adults 25-54 demographic. In the Nielsen Live+3 ratings, the show hit 1.1 million viewers with its fourth episode. That includes 392,000 viewers in the demo.

Dark Winds will have another case to solve at AMC and AMC+.
The hit drama series has been renewed for Dark Winds Season 3.
A renewal was a no-brainer, with the cabler and its streaming sibling previously touting the show's continued success.
Dark Winds Season 2 averaged 1.7 million viewers during its first three days on the linear cable service.
Numbers for AMC+ have not been made available, but the network indicated that it had a strong footprint on the streaming service as the series aired.
Episodes were made available before their debuts on the service, so there was an incentive for fans to watch it earlier.

AMC is heading into more Dark Winds.
The cable network has renewed the crime drama for a third season, coming a couple of weeks after season two finished its run.
The series is planned to premiere in early 2025, a noticeable shift from the summer premiere of its first two seasons, but understandable given the writers and actors strike.
It comes after Dark Winds made its debut on Warner Bros. Discovery’s Max service as part of a two-month pop-up.
Dark Winds stars Zahn McClarnon, Kiowa Gordon and Jessica Matten.
The first season of the series, which is produced by AMC Studios, drew 2.2M viewers on AMC for its June 2022 launch in Live+3 ratings. The company said that the second season averaged 1.7M viewers each week in Live+3, per Nielsen and saw “significant” viewership and acquisition gains from season one on AMC+.

In May, Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav predicted that streaming services would begin bundling together in order to provide increasingly economically conscious consumers with a value worthy of paying for. Well, it appears that Zaslav is making moves to prove his prediction correct — at least partially — because on Monday, it was announced that Wbd’s flagship streaming service Max would be teaming up with AMC to present the latter’s prestige programming to the wider audience on the much larger Max.

Perhaps it’s coincidence, or serendipity, but two of the best-reviewed shows on television happened to both return at the same time with new seasons last week — and both put Native storytelling and Indigenous characters front and center. FX’s “Reservation Dogs” and AMC’s “Dark Winds” have a few things in common — starting, of course, with Zahn McClarnon, who stars as Navajo tribal police officer Joe Leaphorn in “Dark Winds” and recurs as Officer Big in “Reservation Dogs.”
And both also share acclaim from viewers and critics: “Reservation Dogs” sports a 99% positive rating on Rotten Tomatoes’ reviews aggregator, while “Dark Winds” boasts a remarkable 100% ranking. But the two shows come from very different genres: “Reservation Dogs” is a modern-day coming of age dramatic comedy about a group of friends working through the death of one of their own, while “Dark Winds” is a western noir period piece set in the 1970s.

You can’t keep Daryl Dixon down. After stealing the spotlight for eleven seasons on The Walking Dead, Daryl Dixon finally takes the leading role in his very own spin-off series. AMC has released a new teaser trailer for The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon, which begins to unravel the character’s journey to France.
Like a fish out of water, Daryl Dixon finds himself in an entirely new country filled with new faces and new walkers. The Daryl Dixon teaser singles out one walker in particular, who seems to be wearing a Hannibal Lector-esque mask with a tranquillizer dart to the neck for good measure.
The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon has already been renewed for a second season, alongside The Walking Dead: Dead City. “This next chapter in the Walking Dead Universe continues to thrive with a terrific inaugural season for Dead City and highly anticipated new journey for fan-favorite...

Negan has defied the odds countless times throughout his time in The Walking Dead universe.
Things took a wild turn on The Walking Dead: Dead City Season 1 Episode 6 when we learned that The Dama had been calling the shots and wanted Jeffrey Dean Morgan's alter ego to help her run New York.
She had heard how Negan killed Glen, which forever changed Maggie and Hershel's lives.
In one of the most chilling scenes in franchise history, the Dama revealed she had stolen one of Hershel's limbs and could go back for more if Negan didn't help her cause.
"He's in a position that he didn't anticipate being in — certainly," Morgan said in a new interview with Entertainment Weekly.
"I think he thinks he's f---ed."
Morgan believes Negan was surprised by how cutthroat the Dama was because he didn't know much of anything about her before their first meeting.
